Don't buy this camera. Your smartphone will most likley be 100000+ times better than this. Stay away from potato camera. Unless you want to film pretty RU-vid videos with it *sarcasm* *Yes the instructions say that it has a 1.2MP Sensor. So they get you with the listing and details but then when you open the box and see it all, that's where you realise something is up. There is simply no value whatsoever in this product. Most people will have a better camera sitting around in a drawer or can get one for a tiny sum in the form of an older smartphone or digital compact camera. The only challenge in that approach will be the possibly rather worn battery but that can be worked round, especially in devices that can be externally powered. Even the front camera in a modern budget smartphone is likely a better camera than this.
I started typing in the comments ' Also do not buy the microphone this guy is using' but luckily before i finished typing it he said what he was doing lol
Back in 2004, I bought a "single-use digital camera" for $11 and hacked it to be reusable. It had a 1.2MP image sensor, and other than lacking an ability to record video, was superior to this...thing...in almost every way.
@@popefrancis80 There used to be digital equivalents of disposable film cameras for the not-so-techy crowd. You'd "buy" the camera, take pictures with it, return the camera and you'd get back prints / CD with the image files on it or something. For obvious reasons, it didn't really work out.
At 8:28 , watching the words Camera in a slightly Canon-looking font, and trying hard not to wince through the insane laughter (broke my arm at the elbow last week)... omg...
SON : DADDY I WANT A DSLR CAMRA PLEASEEEE!!! DAD : WHY NOT SON LET ME ORDER ONE FOR YOU "two days later" SON:" opens the box" son : dad what brand is it DAD : ITS A WELCOME CAMERA!!
@@xponen Or you can spend a little more and get an point and shoot from a department store which is still better quality than this piece of s@@t. Maybe not for me, but I'm at the stage where I'd be willing to spend thousands on lenses if I had the money.
The low res video was far better than I had expected. The white balance is weird though, as is the extremely aggressive noise reduction. It has a surreal painterly feel to the images. The """flash""" cracked me up, seems much more fair just to call it a top mounted torch! Would you consider doing a video on one of the other weird fake DSLRs available online? I'm thinking of the ones commonly available on AliExpress, branded as Polo. They're around AUD$250. That's well into competent point and shoot territory from name brands, so I'm curios as to what they could offer in that price bracket.
1 megapixel sensor. Lmao. That is a sensor from literally 20 years ago. I remember buying a 1.3mp digital Canon in winter 2000 that I think still took better pictures than this.
I had a very similar one too. I believe it was around $300 back then. I lent it to a friend a month after I got it, and he moved to California a week later. Never heard from him again. 😒
Make that 15. I can't wrap my head around how crazy expensive this piece of shit is. Hell, I bought my phone (LG G5) for $50, that is a million times better camera than this, a phone, gps, internet and multimedia device. I mean who on Earth keeps buying this crap? I just don't understand.
29:11 Yes. it is definitely a webcam sensor. Webcams don’t tend to have autofocus, and there are definitely webcam models that you can twist the lens on it to focus manually.
THAT...is a quality piece of kit. We are talking high end here. The resolution and clarity of image surpasses all others. Thank you raising awareness of this awesome tech.
Not gonna lie, the video samples with the L.A. Noire music gave me nice flashbacks to when I was a kid back in the late 90’s. Felt so nostalgic. Loved it.
Actually there are some items here and there that you can't go wrong with. I have a "Reanice'' bong that surprisingly is really nice that i bought from there! And a hippy wall blanket which looks great. But i love how the lens cap of this dslr spells out ''Camera'' on the front as if it was the brand logo lmao
Never thought we'd see a Welcome camera! This is actually pretty funny, some cameras from around 10 years ago take better photos! At least it's "Welcome" branded.
@@RetroStevie old camcorders are pretty cheap on the likes of eBay so yeah could get an older name brand camcorder that does better standard def video for less, or maybe even an early 720p one
The first digital camera I bought used in probably the mid 90s was horrible and did like vga quality, and a slightly larger mode. Considering it was probably one of the first consumer cheap cameras anyone could buy I was ecstatic to get it. It didn't even use any type of memory card and took like 16 pictures at max resolution which was probably about 800x600. It did video at very low res as well, no zoom at all, fixed focus. Later I got the next generation update that used a weird ceramic looking memory card that was common back then and disappeared in a few years. It was slightly better resolution and had slight digital zoom. That one was probably slightly better than that thing and was still fixed focus. I mostly used my old film DSLR back then and used it for posting on the net easily and quick pet and pictures of stuff I needed to remember like car parts and how things went together so if I was hunting parts or needed to put something back together I could look at the screen to double check. After that I got a deal on a Sony nice point and shoot that did 4 meg, and a while after that a nice Canon digital rebel XT and have continued upgrades as deals came up. Things have certainly progressed a ton since I started...
I somehow feel as though they took a "point and shoot" type digital camera from 2001 and stuffed its guts inside a fake DSLR shell that was probably a knockoff of a Canon EOS design. I can tell that whoever built that didn't care about the environment and just wanted money
As a semi-pro photographer, I laughed when I read that listing because there is NO WAY that I would trust any camera off Wish. I don't care if it had a brand name attached because I am sure it would be a counterfeit version. Even the digital camera my parents bought me for my high school graduation back in the late '00s had an optical zoom and better image quality than this.
I'd use it as a decoy. If you're a street photographer and get robbed, just give them this thing. Look really sad that you're being robbed but be internally ecstatic. It's like the whole scream in your heart thing except happy.
Actually, infrared lens is probably one of the only claims that has a hint of truth to it. Digital photo sensors actually detect some infrared wavelengths so most digital cameras have an IR filter to remove them, but if you point your TV remote at a cheapo web cam you can see the IR LED flashing in the picture. This camera clearly won't have an IR filter on it soooo....
As long as 15 years ago there were "dollar store" digicams aimed towards the "kiddie" market that did as well or better than this, and they were about $10!!
I think the reason they promoted the "infrared lens" is this was a popular notorious feature in Sony cams. They had IR emitters so you could see in the dark, and through womens' clothing.
The more I watched, the more I thought "This is going to be the same inner as the cheap dash cams being sold on various sites for the last nine or ten years. And sure enough it is the same equipment repurposed, and then sold for three times the price. I imagine there will be people that buy this for a child because of the price. But picture/video quality this bad will sap the joy from a child when they see the results. A fairly decent second hand compact camera from a good brand should be easy to find for a similar price. How Wish still gets people buying from them - when it is clear that sellers just lie through their teeth - is beyond me.
lol at the sensor reveal. I also was about to comment about the quality of the video when I started watching but thought it prudent to give it a bit more. Perfect intro lol
That video quality was amazing! Makes me think of old family videos and gets me all nostalgic. So if I want to make something look like a video shot in the 80s, I know what to buy.
None of the information on the front of the lens makes sense. Usually you have something like 88mm f3.5-5.6 sometimes less elements but it looks to only have one, however it looks fun to take apart and see what is inside. Love the review thanks.
This device might have been originally targeted at CHILDREN, so it might have been a TOY. That is until somebody on Wish thought some adults could be scammed in buying a toy at an adult price 😉 The whole way it's being build almost screams "I'm a TOY I'm not a real camera".
”There’s a sucker born every minute..” - P.T. Barnum. This camera brought to you by, the fine folks at the CCP and PLA makers of COVID 19, the management team of the Uyghur Concentration..err...recreation... camps and soon, their newest acquisition, Hong Kong.
i used to see this camera everywhere when i looked for a camera to buy online, and just by looking at the thumbnail from it on the stores i could already tell it was garbage
When a Lens Cap has "CAMERA" on it, you know you have some quality goods right there. I mean, if my car had "CAR" in big text on the back, I'd feel awesome.
Cool video, glad I found your channel... Something interesting about the photos of the ground... The ground almost looks animated, drawn.. kind of similar to what the deep mind computers will draw. The sensor is so old that we aren't used to seeing photos like that. I wonder if it could actually be usual for artistic cartoony photos? I have no idea about photography.
Just one thing (though you seem to know what you're talking about, which makes this an odd point to have to make); 4 AA cells at 1.5v each is 6v. My Canon M50 batteries are 7.4v, so the point about it running on "stuff all power" seemed rather out of place. This is before we get into the topic of amperage, of course.
Love the way it states "camera" on the lens cap. Just incase you get confused as to what its supposed to be. One time I spent 3 hours trying to change the Shutter speed on my cat
When I was in film school and using 16mm cameras I jerry-rigged one of these small lenses to fit into the viewfinder so I could use it as a video-assist. That's about all it's good for...
I baught one of these 3 years ago because like you it was difficult to belive the claims for a £23 (at the time on ebay) camera. and watching this is deja vu.. wonderful stuff! however I need to say that when the playing with it was over (5 mins at most) I'm afaid it dosen't work as a door stop either as it is too light :)
Thank you so much for doing with you on this camera if you want to call it that. My kid wants to get in to photography and saw this and was bugging me to get it. Like they say if it's too good to be true usually is.
The start up chime, button press sound and the menu interface are the exact same on my old cheap dash cam. Only difference is the size. I'll take a guess and assume it's the guts from a tweaked dash cam in a camera housing.
I had a shop that sold gadgets and fun stuff for blokes (and girls) who like novelties. I had to buy most of my stuff from China, and the unbelievable shoddiness of goods when they arrived, sometimes not even working, and the silly “tech specs” tables of features impossible to achieve, eventually made me close the shop. The Chinese lie about everything, all the time. Something worth remembering.
We used to have Cash Converters in Halifax, it turned into "Buyers and Sellers depot" the next year and hasn't changed since. Same kind of shop, just different name.
Unless you are very passionate about photography, or a professional, use your phone, the results are almost indistinguishable between any somewhat modern phone, and a DSLR camera.
Remember those one-time-use camera we used to have back 20 years ago? Was a brilliant hazzle free thing back then. Before that you could get cheap cameras its not that but having to go buy the right film rolls & fiddle around with them inside the camera was extra work. But then it reached a point where cameras got so cheap that you could just buy a "premade" camera with a film roll inside for just a few bucks in vendingmachines. Super nice if you was a turist, just snap pictures left & right without being worried about getting it stolen. You could always just buy one more too. Then back home again just hand in the whole camera to you local photo store for developement. I guess this is basicly the digital same (except not adverticed the same). Then again standards is higher today so you wouldnt even take one of these with you on vacation. But if you have to take pictures of the alligators in a flooded basement in a iron smelting building on top of a vulcano during a hurricane perhaps.
i was theorizing it's a webcam sensor before you mentioned anything. i think that's the case for the welcome phones as well, just cheap cheap cheap. i have a $15 webcam that takes better quality pics than this thing which is quite ridiculous.
I thought this was a video from around 2009 and had to check the upload date. Amazing! I had a $25 digital camera in 2012 that looked and worked like 20 times better. Also, it had x4 optical zoom. Feking wish. Edit: now I think it was more like 50 times better.
I've got a 20 year old Kodak DC-280 Zoom that takes better photos. Then again, that was a $600 camera at the time. Only 2 MP but it had pretty solid color reproduction and the photos still look fine to this day.
I know this video published last year, but I recognize the webcam len itself. Look like similar to one I had before called D-Link i2eye DVC-1000 10100tx Broadband VideoPhone in early 2000s.
10:39 those Numbers are probably actually correct, but they'fe definetely not at all impressive. The millimeter rating (in this case falsely labelled "L") is the focal length. Small focal lengths are wider than larger focal lengths. 9,8mm is suuuper wide, so if the image is zoomed in, that means the sensor is miniscule. The Aperture rating is the ratio between the focal length and the lens opening. The higher the number, the smaller the opening. 9,88mm / 5 < 2mm
Great video I bought a, watch of wish it was only £40 and it was nothing like the photos and the numbers on the watch where slanted. And another thing I hate about wish when you see a product for about £15 when you go to buy the price goes up
I can actually smell the 'Made in china' sticker and was waiting for it to explode or catch fire. I might have suggested it was recording and sending information back to the ccp, but when the button does not work and the lens cap is the most admired item on it, then I put that thought straight out my mind.
