Hi Scott One of the things I learned about in School was the the original equation for the prediction for antimatter was the Klein-Gordon equation. When the problem was first solved they discovered two sets of solutions. The solution produced positive energy values and negative energy values. At the time of the problem the negative energy solutions to the problem were written off as invalid. In time it was discovered it solved the problem anti-matter. Still people couldn't accept negative energy values so instead it was stated that some quantum property was inverted to the "normal" particle. The idea was then that antimatter was actually a particle that quantum tunneled across the dirac sea where the middle of the sea was the speed of light and one side of the graph went toward zero in velocity wereas the other side went to twice the speed of light. Feynman took it furth and suggested with Wheeler-Feynman absorber theory. So with these ideas is it possible to think of anti-matter itself as having negative energy densities.

Scott, there is a faster way to eliminate your momentum with an Alcubierre drive. The idea is with a large body with high gravity to initially find your velocity vector after warping in. After you have done that, like in this video, rather than burning and wasting precious fuel, wait until you are almost out of the SOI of the target body. As you move outward you can continue to charge your exotic matter as well. Finally, warp in close to the planet again and repeat as necessary. The conserves moment and save fuel for precision maneuvers. This particular maneuver takes time but saves energy. If you have exotic matter to spare, you can speed up the process by warping in close to the planet, and after your distance has doubled, or gravitational forces have decreased by 75% due to the inverse square law, you warp in close again. the more time you spend close to the planet, the faster you slow down the relative velocity. Same thing goes for speeding up. This maneuver makes planning warp trips so much faster. But watch out, you can only have so much exotic matter so make sure you give yourself a buffet to regenerate matter and don't warp in so close that you can't control your orbit in relation to the speed at which you can generate exotic matter. Hope this helps :D

The irony here is that it takes game time, but much less Kerbal time than a classic orbital transfer, so basically while being OP, this thing makes you play more ans spend less gameplay time in time warp, genius !

The Alcubierre Drive (sp?) is an interesting concept, for those that don't know, it uses mechanics similar to have a surfboard moves over water, but instead of water it's space. Seriously though, there are people who have written a lot of interesting things on it and I'd suggest researching the theory a little, it's pretty cool stuff.

Antimatter has been studied quite well in fact. It falls down. Its gravity also attracts and does not repulse. It is quite ordinary, when not mixed up with "normal" matter. Also, everything "falls down". That's the trick with gravity - it is not a force at all, just geometry. So it affects anything exactly the same, with no difference based on any property of the falling object. Zero mass also falls down, so there's no reason to expect negative mass to be different. If it existed it would also fall down. The only difference is how things would fall towards it, not how it would fall towards things.

i thought the casimir effect and the experiment you described with the 2 plates was to prove that particles of all kinds pop in and out of existence in pairs, like virtual particles and you can get it to make photons if you pull one of the plates apart fast and the photon was created cuz it lost its twin due to the expansion.

various sources indicate that the IXS Enterprise will be able to complete a voyage between here and Alpha Centauri (4.3 ly away) in about 2 weeks. If this does work, then we've already gained access to conducting manned ground missions on nearby earth-like worlds, and maybe even colonize said worlds, along with creating mining colonies in asteroid belts and outposts on more remote worlds like the various moons of Sol system. If the Enterprise holds up on her maiden voyage into the warp, and comes out in one piece, then we have just saved humanity from it's dying homeworld and instantly turned space travel into a commodity in one fell swoop.

Why would antimatter fall up? If it's got positive mass wouldn't it be affected by gravity the same way as normal matter?
@jbkjbk1999
@jbkjbk1999 10 лет назад
Because matter falls down, and antimatter is the opposite of matter, so you could jump to the conclusion that it would interact with gravity in a different way.
@AmunRa1
@AmunRa1 10 лет назад
I think it's a bit of a silly idea as well, since it's supposed to have positive mass, but it's hard to predict properties of matter we can't even collect in large quantities, so it could be possible.
@JimPlaysGames
@JimPlaysGames 10 лет назад
Totally Not A Cylon but it's not the opposite of matter. It just has opposite electrical charge. If it did have negative mass then it would be a candidate for warping space.
@AmunRa1
@AmunRa1 10 лет назад
JimPlaysGames I'll also add that we have found neutral particles that have positive mass, so we can't just jump to the conclusion that anti-matter has negative mass.
@sammyjc89
@sammyjc89 9 лет назад
Totally Not A Cylon Anti matter isn't the opposite at all. Just there is anti in it doesn't mean it isn't positive matter. That is why they call negative matter negative matter. Anti matter is a whole different thing.

Yes. The holes filter enough microwaves to prevent harm.
@ObjectsInMotion

No, he is referring to a quantum mechanical meaning of the word "fit". In the casimer experiment, virtual photons are confined to certain energies and there is lower bound energy which microwaves for example are too weak to poses. It's less like a large man trying to get through a small door than like a small child being told he's too short to ride this ride.
