@ryan boughton Kami can be referred to as God/Spirit. However, it cannot be exactly translated. Actually, kami are the forces of universe. Everything that exists are kami for example: the mountain kami, the river kami, etc. It is like every inanimate object possesses some spirit. And, the yokai typically stands for demons. They are characterized by their horrific looks. They love to terrorize humans or pull pranks. Or at worst, they even something spook or steal life forces. Sometimes, these yokai can work under kami and bring benefits humans. For instance, Kitsune(the fox yokai) is the messenger and guardian of Kami Inari and, sometimes kami himself looks like yokai eg: Raijin and Fujin.
Just Some Guy without a Mustache Chinese mythology came after the original monotheism in China, the reason all mythologies are so similar is bc they are all telling the same story with varying degrees of accuracy.
Interesting how this two have genuine and stable, if flawed, love and respect for each other and their children in contrast with western gods like Zeus and Hera .
@Daniel Appleton I don't mind the "siblings getting down part" its just the "his brother" he referred to izanagi acknowledging his sister as a he. Did he make a mistake? Or was izanami a he and a she at the same time or something??

Expect much less from a couple who abandoned Hiruko? As a side though, it might be an early mythological example of fight or flight, given she was a decomposing corpse that somehow walked and talked at that point.
I'd assume its hard to find art for deities cause we don't know their forms so smite is actually good at giving them a form for us to commonly refer to. I do think the sword he has is pretty badass though :D
Since the gods are not perfect, I feel that "there is no perfect thing in the world" and "to tolerate and love imperfect things" are placed in the depths of Japanese values.
A video going in more debt on the supreme eternal gods (and one on exactly what happened to Izanagi after the initial story and/or the ultimate fate of Hiruko) would be really cool imo

False. Izanagi is a genjutsu cast upon the user oneself giving the user control over what is and is not real for as long as Izanagi is active. And Izanami is an infinite loop which affects the target through physical sensations shared between them and the user to perform the illusion

Amenominakanushi (天御中主 or 天之御中主神, "Heavenly Ancestral God of the Originating Heart of the Universe") is YHVH/ALLAH in my thought. Izanagi and Izanami is Adam and Eve. Japanese creation myth (天地開闢, Tenchi-kaibyaku, literally "creation of heaven and earth") more like Genesis to me.
@@redashura9255 Except Izanagi and Izanami are gods not humans. Izanami was murdered due to the birth of her son Hino kagutsuki and sent to the underworld. Izanami then went mad when Izanagi saw her new form and chased him out of the underworld with the threat of murdering a thousand or so.
The two rocks with a rope tied on in the sea is called Meoto-iwa (husband and wife rocks 夫婦岩 or Tate-iwa 立石) in Ise City (伊勢市). And I think that Izanagi produced some Kami, not Youkai.
