FYI Jin-Gitaxias doesn't see the spells cast from chapter 3 of The Great Synthesis. The spells are cast as a part of the ability resolution, and the saga only exiles and returns after all the spells have been cast (but before they resolve).
I feel like this deck would be able to benefit from Brudiclad as a finisher to close out games by turning your small 1/1 tokens into larger things like the 8/8s from ominous seas.
An interesting (budget) replacement for Rhystic Study that i've found is [[Insight]]. It's definitely worse, but in an average pod, there is usually a green player to feed the card draw, and you don't annoy the table with the "do you pay the 1". really cool decklist tho
This video was amazing! I love the work you put into brewing the deck and that you've put the time into playing it so that you're able to provide thorough explanations of play patterns. I've been wanting to build Ovika for a while now but really didn't want to do typical Izzet things. This is exactly the type of brew I was hoping to find. I'll definitely be giving your list a try. Thank you for going above and beyond! ❤
Nice idea! there are so many good enchantments in red/blue that I always wanted to run, originally I tried Keranos for the commander but Obika is a really good fit, much more explosive.
Alright back from 3 weeks and let me tell ya I one the first game with Ovika and I felt terrifying. The giant flyer stopped people from wanting to swing their big bads and the goblins kept me in a very safe goblin fort and I just kept churning out more goblins, once I knocked out the second biggest threat the other two just sat in acceptance that they forgot to deal with the goblins
I just got an Ovika tonight to build this type of deck, you have inspired me and this feels like it's Gunna be fun. This is going to be a very silly place for one of my favorite cards : Kiora beats the sea god! Thank you so much for existing in my recommendations I can't wait to play this
Been watching and you're building some great decks with unique cards. I also feel like I'm learning a lot even though I'm an experienced EDH player. For example Exchange of Words is hilarious and potently powerful.
I just wanted to say thank you for the recommendation of Hurkyl, Master Wizard! I've been working on an esper enchantment deck with the new Arna Kennerud in Moxfield, and primarily wanted it focused on Auras, enchantments and counters. It's been a tough balance figuring out how many 'modification spells' I should include, while keeping the gas on. I still carry my mana rocks for ramp, so there's no short supply of artifacts with the enchantments in tow. A consistent draw card, that allows me to sift through the top five cards for selection in the moment is great for curating, and I could (If I'm reading it right), pull up sorceries etc that I happen to cast that turn as well if I'm lucky. I've been trying to find card draw that isn't just mesa enchantress, that just sits back and does nothing-- but forwards the deck whenever I happen to draw it, given the colour spread available. This card looks like a good fit! I already have the usual culprits, like pearl-ear, sram and kor spiritdancer that handle the casting side along with auras that draw. Breena and Raffine have been alternative methods to draw, while modifying the counters for doubling. Recently found you last week, been loving the vids! :) Will be tuning in for the next~
I created the other version of this and loved it, but yes it's a bit hated in the play group so I don't play it anymore. I'll definitely give this a try
Your video reminded me that I had a similar experience! I was feeling that my standard Ovika spellslinger deck was too consistent and hence too strong for my playgroup. So I also decided to rebuild it into more of a gimmicky deck: Ovihicles, an Ovika deck centered around vehicles. It's actually very fun and pretty decent, although it comes with a few intricacies you have to play around, like the goblins you create off casting your vehicles entering with haste but the vehicle itself not having haste. Additionaly in the last few sets there were always a few new vehicles fitting the color identity, so the decks keeps evolving.
there is a artifact called hyldas crown that is basically the tamiyo, but it is 3+3 to draw for each tapped creature all your opponents control together(+1 because free tap on your turn)
5:28 that is wrong. you cast everything as you resolve that trigger, and they go to the stack before jin-gitaxias returns to the battlefield. jin-gitaxias returns before any of them resolve, however he sees none of those entering the pile, so won't draw any cards.
I'd like to ask how much success you've had with Mirage Mirror? What has been the best use of it? Have you ever copied an actual enchantress for card draw?
I really enjoy using off color strats for my unhealthy number of commander decks that I refuse to dismantle. I wish I'd thought of this one. My favorite is my Firja, Judge of Valor spellslinger deck. It's pretty fun if you like control. Cheers!
I love Ovika too I challenged myself to make the deck with 0 creatures outside of Ovika but I might have to give this version a spin it looks like great fun
Thanks for making this, I have ovika in a battle deck so I can cast the noncreature spell and then defeat it and cast it again from exile and ovika goes crazyyyyyyy hard
god i love ovika! ive built it like 4 different times and every time, its a blaasssst. my favorite is a ton of mana rocks and then big splashy spells that i tend to rotate out
It really isn't. I've proxied it and played 4 games with it. I've won 3/4 games, with 1 being one turn away, and it all was around 5-6 turn, so I wouldn't say "slow"
Part of me is looking at swapping Phyrexian alter (mainly because I don't have one) for an Artificer Class since it should be able to get me a mana rock and to start copying my mana rocks. Normally most people I play against don't target it until I have like 10 sol rings. Also Court of Emberth seems like it could deal with opponents if you stay the monarch
I opened this commander randomly and wanted to try it, but all the normal play patterns were annoying and not my playstyle. This, though, might be worth giving a shot.
I'm surprised you're using manaform hellkite...it not only doesn't trigger your commander when you cast it, but if you're discounting your spells (like with as foretold, sunbirds, cascade, etc) it is not very useful as it only makes a dragon as big as the amount of mana actually spent rather than the straight mana value. Also, recommendations: Struggle for Project Purity - obviously not as good as Rhystic, but a great budget replacement that doesn't generate nearly as much hate. Connect the Dots - Functions similarly to Tamiyo's draw mechanic as it triggers for each goblin you attack with (which means it can also pile up over the course of a couple turns if your board state is struggling). Lost in the Maze - Instant speed, clears blockers, lets you make as many goblins as you want, and can protect your board.
I'm sorry to correct you, but with all of the 3 mechanics you said (As Foretold + Cascade and I include also Discover) you still create the Dragon/flying Shark/Incubator/Goblins with the full (=CMC) mana cost, even if it's casted free - because it's CAST indeed :)
I was working on a custom commander for Izzet enchantments, then they printed ole boy here and I felt like the custom commander was no longer necessary. This guy is crazy
woooah i have been building a magnus the red deck with ovika as a polymorph target to spew out a disgusting amount of goblins so glad this came up in my recommended, what a cool idea
I might have to build this deck lol (after I finish building my Nekusar, Henzie and Norin decks), I was never interested in enchantress decks, the ones I've seen are always some Sythis deck, but this one got me interested, I was already interested in Ovika before, but this looks like a fun and different deck. Just wondering if I can break the "yeah trust me dude, this is not like the others" when people see Ovika, but we'll see
I am pretty sure Jin gitaxias does not draw you cards on the spells you cast on his 3rd chapter. You cast the spells and THEN flipp him back. His frontside is there when they resolve but not while casting
Heeeey lookie that im no longer the only enchantress storm ovika player now, wonder if ya put the sluggishness with a ruby medallion and a skirk prospector or any sac outlet that makes you red, theres so many auras that go back to hand when hitting the grave, so many ways for infinite gobos
Saw the list, lowkey, id try to find room for skirk prospector, Thermopod. For auras Draconic Destiny, fiery Mantle, Sluggishness, these go infinite with ovika and a cost reducer and are in theme for enchantress
i've been looking for inspiration to build my first commander deck (i only own two precons right now) and i clicked on this video because the thumbnail seemed interesting. i probably won't build this specific deck, but i wanted to ask since it seems like you have some experience: how do you come up with an effective, unique, original idea for a deck? i don't want to scroll through edhrec's most popular commanders and just build an average netdeck, but i'm having a hard time getting the ball rolling with a single commander/archetype/ability/engine/etc. to build around? any advice? or any resources you could point me to?
This doesn’t feel like an enchantress deck as it feels like a permanents only gimmick deck. I was hoping to see any type of enchantments matters cards 😢 That said, I’m all for playing the game on hardmode by imposing novel restrictions on deckbuilding and have done so with over a dozen Ovika lists. A a fan of Ovika, I’m a fan of the list, just not within the enchantress context
Jin is to slow, better run omnisience instead, you prob also need more effective card draw, i use faerie mastermind or sea gate restauration for more draw and handsize, and city on fire with goblin bombardment should be in here aswel tbh
