This is all wrong. I met Izzy in Huntington Beach he had just got to California. He said he played drums.. so did I. I invited him to band practice Rott Row . . We were playing beyond our ages . Bass player Don Haffke was already slapping his p bass and listened and learned from Jaco! Dan Root was guitarist singer he went on to play with Adolescents. We also played together later with Rik L Rik. So we did our original set fast raw punchy punkrockglammetalblues.. Izzy was blown away. After practice in the garage at bass players parents house (I also lived in the practice room). When everyone left it was early evening and we drank beer got stoned and smoked cigs.. I was playing guitar a beginner then . I said Izzy hop on the drums! He kinda didn’t want too but i was like let’s jam! So he did .. he was .. well no chops but could keep a beat before the forearms got tight.. lol so maybe 37 minutes later .. we just sitting on dirty carpet floor talking and I’m tuning to open G .. I start playing some stones “loving cup”, brown sugar.. Izzy says teach me how to do that! So I did real quick . Hour later he’s writing his own songs ! And says yeah my singer Bill (Axl) is coming out here soon . Meeting up in Hollywood . I said kool I’m headed there too next couple weeks . He says you want to be our drummer? Yeah . Fast forward couple months and Izzy now has the dyed black hair , black trench coat only eating garlic puffs! And he was already networking . Couple guys from RATT walked by they said hi to him . A few others same . So we hung out. Next few days he says I got a lead guitar player . Chris Weber. Bill just made it out was real quiet n shy. Didn’t barely talk and was feeling left out (he had a flannel, some bell bottom work jeans . So Izzy and I fixed him up showed him how to Teaze hair and wear make up and some pleather leggings and Izzy had a black leather motorcycle jacket he spray painted Pink.. we all pretty much lived in our same clothes for jeez months! Tight leather pants and converse. So we take my small car upLaurel Canyon to Chris Webers parents house to rehearse. A guy named Tony Babylon on bass he plays with Izzy now last few years. He was a huge Cheap Trick fan had a eight string bass too. And always had a couple hot chicks 😂like one on each arm! So we ready to play .. Chris’s parents video taped everything . Tape recorder on .. so Chris had riffs Izzy had some stuff .. we just kinda jammed on the riffs and see what happens .. all of a sudden .. there’s Axl belting out a high pitched vocal screaming from a peavey backstage 30!!! He’s on his knees.. doing those Elvis type moves .. this goes on couple hours .. super fun fast rock n roll. We were all lit up it sounded killer sometimes lol so these rehearsals are like maybe 1-2 times a week. And we all hanging clubbing .. Axl n Izzy rode with me . We would pick up some girls that worked at Pussycat theatre, and Strip clubs. Non stop rock n roll ..
Very Cool! He also played with bassist, Jonathan Daniel, who I met in Dallas..They made a record in the early 90's "Your Carma Ran Over My Dogma." Too Funny! Cheers Amigo!
Not one word about his absolute best album - Izzy Stradlin & the JuJu Hounds - released a few months after quitting G & R in early 1992 on Geffen. Please listen to it. It's amazing.
@KnowIt74 You are a lucky man. GnR at their peak. It was all downhill from there. Use your Illusion had some great songs, but overall it was a disappointment. To me, at least.
I detest computer generated voice overs because they're full of pronunciation errors and a weird cadence. It's just laziness from the content provider. Put in some effort.
‘Appetite’ will Always Be the Greatest Hard/Heavy Rock Guitar Album ever Created. the 3 main guitar player, Izzy, Slash & Duff (yes, Duff recorded 6-string parts) struck Gold with the tracks on that record, but their tones & performance will never be matched.
@corporalclegg914 Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll has ruined more bands than I can count. The list of successful bands with successful 10 or 20 year careers is quite thin.
IZZY is one main reason y GNRwas the best. He had a hand in writing all of Appetite and Lies the best hard Rock music and band ever from 85 to 90. After he left they were not as good . Period. Izzy is the shit. Wrote most those riffs melodies and put down most the arrangements
@@bobwreck3775that's such a cliche. Some of their best and most adventurous songs like coma and estranged had no writing contributions from him. He couldn't even play his parts to coma live without a chord chart on stage. Yeah he wrote a few good tunes but people carry on like he's a musical genius.
@@eastcoastmonkeyProbably because the script was AI generated just like the voiceover was. This whole production was probably made in five minutes by AI.
The scary part is imagine befriending Axl, who is or at least was, certifiably insane. Just read Slash's autobiography to fully fathom just how crazy that fucker is (was).
I thought Izzy was cool af when he was just a local Hollywood musician. When he became famous and at the height of his rockstardom..he just said "well..bye"..!!!! I thought it was one of the greatest rockstar moves ever!! He's a legend!!
Voiceover sounds like one of those automated things from 30 years ago where you could call in and they'd tell you what time it is. Hilariously low quality "content".
it was bad when they kicked out Adler and replaced him with Sorum whose drumming style was totally different. but when Izzy left, that for me was the true end of G'n'R.
I'm friends with Taz. He told me Izzy was straight up crazy. They'd get together and rehearse for a tour and album then Izzy would disappear and not return calls. Then do the whole thing over again years later. Izzy should have at least done a Japanese tour and released a pro-shot. I'm sure he would have got a big payday. I see he's got his mansion in Ojai up for sale for 4 million. I'm sure he's well off still but royalties have probably dried up by now.
Tracii Guns should have been in the Axl GnR instead of the goofy guy he got to replace Slash's position. Perfect choice as he is still a great guitar player and has the pedigree.
WTF is that thumbnail headline?? Maybe he has everything sorted and more based..., after all he gets millions from gnr every year and has the comfort of the non-celeb life. I'm only amazed they survived without him.
Saw the Gunners live at Metrecon Stadium 🎸 and believe me of the 80000 people Rockin there was little doubt the person having the best time was Izzy 🎼 Legend 🌟 Mickey Australia 🦘
Uhm, no..... GnR are strung out greasy bags of shyt with copious amounts of talent extruding out of their pores. Izzy, not so greasy. He joined Mr Toads wilde ride, got fkt on drugs and didnt like it. Still, GnR isnt GnR without him though, for sure!
Having a loaded gun around doing lines upon lines of cocain hearing people walking on his roof over a lost million dollars right after he left Gn’R is hardly what I call kind-guys business. I like him a lot but I have more stories too. He is not as nice as you think, maybe to people he can tell is a huge fan of him and his work.
I learned two different guitar styles, and how to make the bass stand out, by listening to this album. The Illusion albums didn’t have the same sense of urgency as Appetite.
Not bad, but not completely right either! 😂 First of all the album was called LIVE Like a Suicide!! Ya know, like ALIVE? 🤦 Second his first solo record after leaving GnR was Izzy Stradlin and the JuJu Hounds in 1992!! Followed by a LIVE EP recorded in Dublin and released only in Japan. THEN 117° in 1999
Honestly, his life wasn't that dark. He had a few years of addiction, but those years were also the height of his career and gave him money that he can still live off. He then got clean in late '89 and seems to have lived a very good life ever since. Far from Axl's drama and the fakery of the big music business. He does his own thing and seems to be enjoying life. It's just a shame they tried to screw him over for money so that he didn't join the reunion.
They just didn't want to pay him what Axl, Slash and Duff were getting paid. They're the main attractions. Besides, isn't Izzy worth something like $30 million dollars? He's not hurting, I'm sure.
@@joeymorvant161 I know and I get Axl and Slash. Especially Axl since it's his band by now. But Duff? No fucking way man. No way what so ever. The clueless semi fans do not buy tickets to see Duff. And as for the hardcore fans, Izzy would sell far more tickets than Duff. And let's not forget Izzy's contributions as a songwriter. He wrote more than Slash and far more than Duff. You would think that accounts for some gratitude, but no. Fuck those guys, seriously. And the way they shut Steven out was bullshit as well. Claiming he can't play the material. He plays the Appetite songs better than anyone and he knows most of the UYI material that they usually play too. The only songs he would struggle with would be a few UYI songs and the Chinese Democracy stuff. But no person on this earth would be more willing to put in the effort than Steven and besides no one cares about Chinese Democracy. As much as I love GNR, those guys have really disappointed me. Axl is still a dictator and Slash and Duff are cowards. Always have been.
I was born in 1968 and graduated HS in 86'. I grew up 20 min S of Hollywood, and my buddies and I were all into hard rock starting at a young age. My friends band played the Troubador in 1983 when he was only 15 or 16. In 81/82, 8th grade (In So CA) rock was still hanging on with Diver Down, and Journey, etc, but by 82/3 my Freshman year it was the Stray Cats, New Wave and short hair. Right when I was coming of age the same 70s bands that are doing geriatric concerts today had fallen out completely, only to be replaced by bands like Quiet Riot and Ratt (IMO Basic Crappola), and when VH decided to "Jump" that silly song just put another nail in rocks coffin. My long winded point is that without Motley's 1st album in fall of 82', and Guns's 87' album appetite giving those talentless hair bands a kick, the nostalgia for 70s rock might not be what it is today. My friend that played the Troubador formed the Big Bang Babies in 1990 and played the Whiskey a few times, and he's now the lead singer etc in an outlaw type country band called Broken Arrow.
Seems you missed the debut album he made with the Ju Ju Hounds, what's up with that, it was his biggest seller and had 3 of the 4 official videos he ever made.
Huge dent in the band and GNR was never the same after Adler was 🔥 fired. Like a main part of a muscle 🚗 car is missing to make that roaring sound! Adler gone the muscle car was already missing the spark plugs.. Never sounded the same ever since!
