J Dilla Inspired Techniques
In this vid, we examine another technique from the legendary Jay Dilla where i notice in one of my favorite tracks he produced, uses a 7 bar loop. In addition this technique utilizes 7 chords in rotation for 4 cycles which fits perfectly in a loop of 7 bars.
This is demonstrated on my MPC 2000xl Once again this concept can be transferred to any hardware or software.
This is only one of many J Dilla techniques, but if you listen to his album called Fantasic Vol.2 , u will come across so many dope techniques just from that one album alone. The spirit of Dilla will continue to live on and shout out to Ma Dukes for creating such a legacy thru her son Dilla Dawg aka The King of Beats.

The way Dilla sampled 10cc for workinonit is nothing short of genius.
@josephhuman2201

On the music theory end of this, its pretty cool stuff. You're working with polyrhythms. Using 7/4 time with the keys over 4/4 on the drums. Very nice. Lots of fun, and pretty unexplored in popular music. The first example that comes to mind is Street Lights by Kanye West off of 808s and Heartbreaks. The song is in 3/4 with a piano part playing 4/4 in the back

Great bar loops for yall! Try this out: the first number stands for the bars in a loop, and the second stands for the amount of times you'll need to cycle them to fit on a 4/4 beat. 3x4 = 12 ; 5x4 = 20 ; 6x2 = 12 ; 7x4 = 28 ; 10x2 = 20 ; 11x4 = 44 . 3, 5 , 6 , 7 , 10 , 11 bar loops work fine for a 4/4 beat. Repeat the loop until you hit a multiple of 4, and you'll have an interesting cycle.

Slick! I got inspired to loop samples or percussion to a scale, like Aminor scale in notes ascending; - A,B,C,D,E,F,G...A. THe last A is like the C on the piano, just an octave higher. So 8 bar loop still. I figure this is easily done by transposing samples by semitones according to the scale. ;) Let me know if anyone wants to try this, Im allready on it so would love to hear others! also You can use a 6key scale where all keys are harmonic to make random triad chords. There would be many combinations such as: 123, 213, 132, 124, 125, 126, 136, 143 etc etc. All would sound complimenting and can be put into a drum rack or something.

the work around is to create at least one scene with only 1 bar then when you're creating a song, it becomes an odd number if you add it before or after a scene with 2,4, 6, ect bars.. does that make sense?
