almost 2 years later, this album still gives me goosebumps, his rapid-fire flows still make my head spin, he rapped his ass off on this project and carried a lot of ROTD3 too, I'm so excited to see what he does next because I agree with you, this still feels casual, he could change lyrical rap's landscape with the next album
I was coming into this album 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 feeling very excited about Anthony Fantano giving a beautiful, long 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 of DiCaprio 2. However, this was not the case on this video as he failed to deliver what his audience expected of him. His tone was a bit quiet, unenthusiastic and bland. His overall passion to express his opinion was not present in most of the video. The way Mr. Melon delivers his flow is consistently boring. Where he should have put emphasis on words he did not and worst of all, he didn't give it a 10. C'mon Melon, you know you want to give it a 10. Overall I'm feeling a light 3 to decent 4 on this 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰. Tran- -sition have you given this 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 a listen? Did you love it did you hate it? What would you rate it? You're the best, you're the best. What should I review next? Hit the like if you like. Please subscribe and please don't cry. Hit the bell as well. Good Evening, Melon, forever.
I also didn't like how he called jewish people by so many names, like we get it, you're an anti-semite but it doesn't give you the right to rape their dead bodies.
He nothin like kendrick, his flow different, style different, only his voice is different from other rappers like kendricks, but they aint even the same.
Great video Anthony, but I think the part where you violently described J Cole as a homeless guy who wants to use your phone charger was alittle weird!
Wtf is wrong with you. This man is just expressing his own opinion, his own perspective, his own interpretation among the thousands of people that listen to this album among the billions of people on this planet.
Dawg I was so nervous looking at the score. I feel like he doesn't review other Dreamville artists because Cole is attached to them. I legit thought his bias hatred towards Cole and Cole's influence in this album would cloud how fucking good this album is to Anthony. I'm so glad I was proved wrong.
The never story was better than this. This album has horrible hooks and some really bland samples. Majority of the tracks feel like freestyles from beginning to end. He’s not dynamic with his flows compared to his previous album.
The part where he said Leonardo DiCaprio was an “aryan god” and his face being on the cover was the only saving grace for this “thuggish trash” album was also pretty questionable, tbh.
This is my absolute favorite album this year!!! This album is still new but there are so many tracks on here that's like crack to listen to!! It keeps me coming back to the album multiple times.
SKI'S "STOKELY" AND ERIC'S "SOME RAP SONGS" GOTTA DO IT Edit: yes i know im fucking retarded, feel free to lynch me for my sins to this comment section.
Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but I'm just not feeling the Jid/Kendrick comparison. I think they both have distinct flows/voices/unique lyricism, just not the same or similar.
@@buddasteedy3937 their only similar in the most surface level "Analysis" of their work in that they change flows often and have high voices besides that I see no similarities
Exactly. I'll admit, the first time I heard Jid, I likened him to Kendrick. But as Jid released more music, his sound became much more distinct and unique
@@hamschh Ya, I agree with Ham. JID has even said he doesn't mind the comparison. It doesn't take away from JID's music because he brings enough uniqueness to make it clear he isn't even close to a copy cat artist.
I find it weird how the weakest part of the album is the features in my opinion. Ferg had a nice hook but the only feature that was really good was J. Cole. Which is surprising to me because I’m not a huge fan of Cole. Either the features were just lacking or it shows just how good JID is, that I find the features to be the worst part Either way this is one of the best albums of the year for me What? Was I supposed to make a meme? Edit: I probably should’ve made this clearer. I didn’t think any of the features were bad. At worst I think they’re average.
Wilner's wonderful world I think he had the third best feature on here honestly. I thought he had a nice flow on his verse and his delivery was pretty good. No complaints really. Just nothing to amazing imo. Then again, I’m not to big on the song Hot Box, so take that for what you will.
Jesse Fabela All right. Go right ahead and call the likes of Kendrick, Eminem, Tyler, and even JID (you know, the artist whose album I just praised) whack.
I lovelovelove Off Da Zoinkys but Just Da Otha Day slaps sooo hard, and the hook is unbeaten imo. Guess that's the best part of the Album. Everyone got different favourites.
@@DesVenin Just Da Other Day automatically became my favourite with his delivery in "Buying some smoke from the dude with the dope Throw five, four point five, so on, so forth"
@@ursulawitt3267 Yes it's misinformed asf but it's just a bar, not to be taken seriously. If you can't let a few stupid jokes go and all lyrics need to be politically correct, respectful and non explicit then please go listen to some pop or Christian rock instead..
You look a little tired melon. Please get some sleep. Read some books. Rest your eyes melon. We need you healthy and happy so you can tell us what to think about the sangs. Love you melon.
This isn't true, tons of 8s have gotten the yellow flannel. Denzel Curry/s Taboo is the most recent off the top of my head but there have been plenty more
I definitely like this album more than The Never Story! Production, features, flow... all on-point. I'm excited to see where J.I.D goes from here! The only negative I would give it are the DJ Drama co-signs. Felt random, and unnecessary. My score would be an 8.5, or 9/10! Thanks for reviewing it, Mr. Fantano!
Did you guys like it? Did ya hate it? What would you fucking numbskulls rate it? it was a dusty album but there’s a few good ones and Riot is catchy as fuck
for some reason this album is the one thing that carried my year, with Just da other day being my most listened to song. I'm aware of the flaws, but the flows are just too good not to love. It just never gets stale and makes you 'vibe' to literally any moment (if that makes any sense). I luv it.
6;37 he’s said in interviews that he often goes into a studio alone and just records a song and sends it off to be mixed and mastered, imagine if he spent real time trying to perfect everything in the next project
jid does it again. FAV. TRACKS - SLICK TALK, OFF DEEZ, 151 RUM, OFF DA ZOINKYZ, WORKIN’ OUT. LEAST FAV. TRACK - HOTBOX. JID - DICAPRIO 2 / 2018 / DREAMVILLE / TRAP RAP, HARDCORE HIP HOP, THE TYPE OF SHIT 70 YEAR OLDS WOULD SAY IS BRINGING BACK HIP HOP. 8/10.
Glad you enjoyed this! I'm also digging it quite a bit. Still need to dig into the lyrical content a bit more, but I'm immediately impressed by the production and J.I.D.'s flow diversity.
I first heard of jid last summer with his "never" song and I fell in love. His flow is so good. His aggressive lines yet never over doing it are so perfect. He's definitely one of the best lyrical rappers right now. Absolutely love this album.
I'd give it a strong 7 Like it is excellent lyrically and JID shows talent, but I feel as though it wasn't very unique. It focused more on rapping well and less on being artistic (not a huge amount, but still quite a bit). And also coming out of this project, I didn't really feel like I knew what JID is about and who he is as a person. Sure, it is an album that is kinda meant for being played as a banger, but even in E-40's most recent album (which I listened to on the same day as JID's, and was happy to see that it really is a return to form for him), which is basically meant to be played as a fun, banger album as well, gave me a nice look at E-40 as a character. Basically, my main issue is this album doesn't really grab me onto the persona of JID like The Chronic put me onto Dr Dre, Doggystyle put me onto Snoop Dogg, and the first Eminem album which I listened to, The Eminem Show, put me onto Eminem. The album is an absolute banger, but it slightly lacks the charisma that other albums (such as the ones that I have mentioned above) that are excellent and groundbreaking have. Due to this, I wouldn't give the album a light 8, but a strong 7 due to that extra push of charisma it lacks.
Troy du PLOOY I think that’s what The Never Story was for. For you figure who JID is, so you can capture him as a person and see what it took for him to get where he is now. Like in general he tells his whole life story kind of in that one song and btw I think The Never Story is much better than DiCaprio 2
Because the track isn't put together well at all. And honestly, if you know who JID,6lack, and Ella Mai are then you would expect some amazing shit from them on a track together.
