He knows westbrook came after. Hes saying he wrote it down prolly for the cipher then later put it in a real song. Or maybe had it for song and did part of it in a cipher/freestyle. Very common

The JID freestyle was crazy, and ski cutting the beat was a tribute to X who was the only person to ever cut the beat for a XXL freestyle. Making ski’s freestyle that much more legendary imo
if he did it bc of x it definitely wasn’t for a tribute tho bc even tho it came out after his death it was recorded like months before, tbh i think it’s more likely to be the best throwing him off
@@leeb5112 i wasn’t too sure when the cypher was recorded tbh but in my mind, him doing it because the homie did it makes more sense than the beat throwing him off, ski has some pretty unique and weird beats. That one is pretty standard just fast so idk about that one but I’m not gonna say you’re wrong. Maybe there’s an interview out there and were both wrong who even knows😂
Nah, I like both. Ski went on with his style, just wanted to be a little bit longer, just a little. But I would give this a 9. It's one of the best XXL Cyphers for me, personally.
frrr it would be a 10 if ski dropped a bit longer of a verse on the beat tho, like if it was him and jid just putting the hurt on the beat that would’ve been legendary bc they both know how to bodybag beats and had great chemistry too. it’s disappointing ski cut the beat but he still went in and it’s really solid overall.
I think jid tried to go hard asf bc he knew he was with ski bro even fan boys out with the "I'm so ready for ski mask to rap guys" I would give it an 8 or 9 for the same reason you gave ski just cut it short it felt like
i think he gave it 6/10 because while those two were good the rest was kinda mid and as an overrall rating two good performances cant make up for a ton of mid
This was quite possibly the best cypher ever. The chemistry was there and both were complimentary, not only because of how different their deliveries were but also by legit complimenting each other. JID was excited to perform with Ski that day and neither of them knew what they were going to say. This is freestyle.
Ain't no way JID freestyled that. His freestyle before, could have, tho the cicada bar makes me think it was written as well. Very few can come up with that off the top
lol jid dropped that album in november of 2018 and the cypher is in the summer, this one dropped jun 12th 2018. westbrook was added to the album after the cypher
X hadn't passed by the time they recorded the Cypher. I think since they were close he was just also doing a cappella cause they probably both decided to do that together
JID is definitely a 9 or 10/10 but I feel bad for ski because JID is so talented and is probably gonna be one of the next like huge rappers in this new generation
The funniest shit is it’s like they separated them all into basically skill groups, JID and ski mask being at top because their obviously best of group💀
not much can be said about how ski mask killed it, JID is my fave rapper atm and maybe all time, but ski mask managed to pull out a good rapping performance after seeing jid spill a dictionary, with the beat being cutoff for him, ski mask had everything to fail and he remained at JID's level with a solid verse. hes way too overlooked.
You cant keep the beat he was making sure it didn't have to be pushed into a box. Ski killed it!! Mudered the beat so well that's why you couldn't hear it.
if ski was prepared it would be alot different i think flow wise ski mask can hang with jid infact would argue on certain songs is better jid is a better lyricist tho
I believe Ski said the best cut was not a tribute to X. He hadn't even died yet when they filmed the cypher. I believe they were filmed in April and X didn't die till June. He said they had tried the beats but the Acapella worked better
Ski is the only person that should have the right to have a beat cut cuz it's to pay homage to his friend that died the same year of the cipher. After Ski rappers that do the beat cut in my opinion are just disrespectful cuz you're basically saying the beat that the producers made is ass and you don't want to freestyle on it.
Ngl i respect this opinion, all the critiques are pretty fair and i think everyone agrees that ski probably should've went first and kept his beat. Yes there was a tribute to X in doing that, but I personally would've preferred a tribute within the verse as well if he wanted to go that route. I think it's a fun freestyle but I think taking the beat away makes it kinda lame considering that's half of Ski Masks appeal is how he flows over any beat. So hearing acappella is weird
