How wonderful to see a truly great organist using her toes and heels and not giving in to the "toes only" fetish which has inexplicably taken such a hold in Baroque music

Grateful to Dame Gillian for sparking a lifelong love of fine organ music. I heard her play Bach at London's Royal Festival Hall when I was a teenager, and I guess she wasn't much older! Huge hall, mastery of a stupendous instrument.

Now THAT is a magnificent performance. The full glory of Bach's music can be heard in this splendid player's interpretation. Truly spine tingling!

Sorry for my inadequate English. Listen to preludium BWV 849 , and then compare the tempo to the middle section in this fugue. They both has the same time signature, 6/4, but in this fugue the pace is maybe 200% faster. How do you explain the horribe different tempi? The final section has time signature 12/8, but the quavers in the middle section running maybe faster than the semiquavers in the final section. And you think it is ok?

times signature doesn't say anything about the tempo

Think It's Impossible, you are wrong. There are several old sources that gives us information about the connecting between tempo and time signatures.

I wish I had been there. oh, what small droplets only come through a computer; and yet, the marvel still announces its majesty, its fullness and it splendour. I am in full heart. What a wonderful performance. My thanks convey far more than merely them. R

The opening is rhytmically laboured and the fine sound is thanks to the organ. Her phrasing is obliterated by the massive acoustic on the recording. The middle section is much more exciting and the microphone has picked up her lovely phrasing. The final section is pretty riveting!

I had the pleasure of hearing play many times in the Ulster Hall with the Ulster Orchestra she could make that Organ really sing. I was also lucky enough to meet her a real lady

What can I possibly say about a fellow KIWI? Dame Gillian has deserved her high honour. I had the pleasure to work (tune) for her in the 1970's - 80's during her visits back to New Zealand. Wow! - did she drive fast! :)

What should I write? What could I write? My wondering , my honour only... Listening her wonderful performance, I am dreaming myself into Dresden. I have a little bit dresdner citizenship. The Silbermann organ in the Hofkirche.... Remembrances about many concerts there.... Csurdi Dániel Officinator Primitivus.
