I am an adoptive mom. One of the quotes that I enjoy most is from Jody Landers. “A child born to another woman calls me Mommy. The magnitude of that tragedy and the depth of that privilege are not lost on me.” I love watching your vlog because you totally understand.

I signed over my rights to my 2 children due to substance abuse. I knew my family would be better for them than I was at the time. I'm currently pregnant with my 3rd child, clean and sober, and with hope that one day I can be in my other babies life.

Sending love and prayers to you❤️ I had my first born when I was incarcerated(substance abuse), and I fought so hard for reunification. When my son was 14 months old, I chose to fight for him to stay with his Foster family. He was 20 months old when I relinquished my rights and that was the hardest day of my life, but the best day in his❤️ Sacrificing Motherhood for the well being of your children, that's huge. Some would call us failures, but only we know our story. I pray for the day to see my little love again, but I have had to accept if I don't. Recovery gave me a life that I love, but it's really hard to face how much I let addiction to rob me of.

The baby and the dog are going to grow up together. It's great cause you always have someone to turn to. Open adoption is a great way to keep the family involved of the child or children you adopt especially when they're a different ethnicity. One of my friends said that he felt like he had that connection to the history of his ethnicity and his parents birth country cause of it...tbh he said it in a completely different way but this way is pc friendly 😂

This has been such a touching series, I lost my son to the child services system when he was 2 months old. It was hard work, and I experienced a lot of pain and resentment towards the case workers and foster carers. Since being reunified I was able to appreciate the hard work and the fact they had opened their heart and home to my son which I do ever greatful for

As someone who was adopted and has reconnected with birth parents,I have a huge respect for you❤️❤️. I'm lucky enough to know both my mother and father and have a great relationship with both. My mom actually moved from across the country to be back with me. Now she lives with me and gets to see her grandkids grow everyday. Something she missed out on with me. So kudos to you its not easy what your doing and I gotta say J is probably in the best place possible. I mean a boy and his puppy ❤️❤️ bffs

it's a shame that in ways the system can sometimes pit good people (foster parents) against good people (the biological parents). I think that's really beautiful and touching though that Nicole and Kristan are making a conscious effort to have an open adoption

I’m so sorry about Rocky’s passing. But, he got you through getting Jay. Having a pet for even the littlest children (well, the RIGHT pet) is such a blessing. Pets teach us so much more than we realize. When things aren’t going right for which ever one in the family, you know the unconditional love of your dog is never ending. You ladies are amazing. Thank you for being so in tune with each step and allowing us to come along. I wish you the best in the future. God loves the noble ness of your journey and your choice to share that with the world.

Congratulations! Sorry for the loss of your puppy. I have literally have done the same thing a home doesn't feel like a home without a dog to me and they never replace AR ones that have passed they just make the grieving process a lot easier. you guys are so sweet and so thoughtful and empathetic and sympathetic I just want you guys to be careful please. I am very happy to see that there is so many birth families that reunify and do the work I personally as a foster parent in my state have never met anybody that has done that I've only unfortunately met the ones that will drive you crazy .when you try to make a connection with the child's birth family please scope them out by yourselves first and really get to know them because as sad as it is there are parents that do not care and their families do not care I don't know if it's just a major narcissistic situation but they genuinely don't care about those kids some of them some of them will continue to hurt those poor babies. I hope that's not the case for your little one and that you can make a good connection and if not feel good about yourselves and knowing that you tried. I can see why they would be hurt or jealous because you're missing Precious Moments and somebody else is experiencing them but they need to be hurt and jealous with themselves I still feel like that kind of not taking full responsibility they should be happy that there are loving people with a safe home and stability taking care of their children while they find their own stability and help themselves .it's not a you against me it's about kids not being in a good or safe situation and being able to be in a safe situation until a better situation happens whether reunification or adoption.

My husband and I are foster parents. We have a beautiful little girl we adopted and will begin the process for our son in the next couple of weeks. My son has siblings that are also in foster care and parental rights have been terminated. I think it’s super important for my son to have a relationship with his siblings even though they don’t actually know about him yet. I have some ppl that are involved with the case guardian ad litem, social worker, CASA worker etc;) that are supportive of this and some that tell me to “leave well enough alone” I’m struggling with knowing what’s best for HIM. This process is so much more involved then ppl think

This was an excellent episode. Thank you. We’re in Canada and for us the TPR happened 2 years before we adopted our kids - as adoption directly from care is common here. Basically we only came into the picture 2 years after the decision had already been made to find them an adoptive home and we didn’t have to face that particular situation as it had already been decided. So the details of how everything works are a little different in our experience here but the heart of it is the same. We also have an open adoption, which has been really helpful for our kids... although part of that is being careful to guard their hearts as (like Mario said) sometimes the reasons for termination are more complicated than temporary circumstances. We still want to keep that connection as much as is safely possible, and to be very clear that there are no “good guys” vs “bad guys” in all of this. I like to say that love is good math: love always multiples - it never divides. Open adoption expands our definition of family to include adoptive family, birth family, and foster family... our “family” is so much bigger now than it ever was before. Loving this series. Thank you!

Ive ALWAYS wanted to be a Foster Mom! I'm very aware of all sides of these painful issues, which are hard fought realities! Children of ALL ages need Positive, Healthy, Stable & Loving homes; stability is vastly important! There's no doubt that most children truly want that ultimate bond with their biological parent(s), which makes reunification a very necessary & hopeful possibility! As of right now, a truly good home, must never discount any loving, caring, and wanting foster family; LBGTQ, Single Parent, Certain Disability Factors or having less income! **Over 400 thousand children are in need of care! Let's all assure we NEVER Give Innocent Children to abusive homes, and speak up for positive changes in the entire system!

Maybe I'm being a jerk but it's striking to me that the birth parents don't seem to consider at all the fact that their little kid with someone for 5 years (a lifetime for a small child)and that it might be more traumatic to take them back after all that time then to just leave them where they are and try to form a relationship from there. I guess I'm just saying it seems a little more about their needs than what's best for the kids

My son is 21 and he recently connected with his birth father 16 years after I adopted him and his brother out of foster care. His birth father was rightfully proud he has been sober 6 years and we had a great visit. Birth mom has also contacted my son but she is still a meth addict. She did not even know who my son was when he ran into her. He came home after this unexpected run in and just sobbed. He apparently told his birth mother off and how I am his real mom. She claims they took her rights illegally but I was at the 26 and was put in as the defacto parent leading to adoption 6 months later here in CA. She and I even talked at the 26 and she claimed this was what she wanted and that Jesus came to her in a dream and told her she was just the vessel to give birth to my sons but I was the real mom. I have no desire to ever see her and I think it would be hard for her. My sons know their birth families but have also recognized the struggles they have gone through. Hey! I got baby pictures which is something I never thought I would have!

I'm a little disappointed in how scripted and unnatural parts of this really important story was to me. When the acting took away from the authenticity and vulnerability it was off-putting. Especially when the fostering mom is so stressed or vain to make the dog interaction look good. The dog pawed all over his head and the baby looked so bewildered. Mama on the right..is like OMG was she sees this all happening and is forced to step in to put the babies needs before her own? Or maybe she was told to do a certain thing that was stressful and akward. No matter the why.. I'm just sad because I was so hyped to feel as though I could get to know a two moms (or insert however they express their relationship pronouns etc.) fostering and adopting a child together. As a 35 year old lesbian who has always wanted to foster, I really needed some one I felt like I could relate to and I didn't. I feel this way while also having the perspective that in the end someone participating in the creation of this series, really friggin cares about these interconnected unrepresented real life people. So. Respect and honest feedback intented.
