Speakeasies were actually called “blind pigs” and “blind tigers” historically. Apparently speakeasy proprietors would charge people to see an animal then throw in a free cocktail to circumvent the law about selling alcohol. Whether or not there were actually pigs or tigers is unclear

Fun fact: In the German books, Newt has an additional name. He is known as Newton Arthemis Fido Lurch Scamander here, because in the first translation of the philosophers stone "Newt" was translated literally to "Lurch", so they gave him a fourth name to keep it consistent ;D

@@Ilyena Rufus Beck also calls Sirius "Sirius Schwarz" in Book 1, but switches to the original Sirius Black starting from Book 3. I think the first audiobook was recorded very early, when only one or two books were out and it was never re-recorded. Therfor all this translation goofs are still present in the audiobooks, although later book editions were corrected.

@@Pokeminator Oh, yeah i remember. And I remember "Snape explodiert" or "Snape explodes" in english, a mistranslation of exploding snap. Thats probably my favourite german mistranslation. I think that got fixed by book five and later editions of the first four.

As for what Newt's mom raises, it is mentioned in the About the Author section of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This led to Newt's love of magical beasts.

Since you discussed The Hog's Head I thought you'd like to know that: a hogshead comes from a 15th century English term (hogged hede) for a unit of measurement equivalent to 63 gallons. However in the modern day it's 54 imperial gallons, which is a standard British brewing industry measure & barrel size. Also a blind pig or tiger is simply a term referring to a speakeasy. So that's more a historically accurate name, rather than its own individual name. And one more thing, gigglepig is a fictional drug in Brooklyn Nine Nine so you might have been thinking about that.

Yay, the polish Pączki representation in the quiz! 😂🥰 The original have briar rose filling and powdered sugar or frosting, sometimes lemon flavoured, on top ❤️ nowadays you can meet many different flavours too- with other jams and even pudding :D (sometimes they also put those candied orange peel bits on top, but I personally hate them just like raisins in cheesecake 🤣 (they sometimes put raisins to "sernik" (cheesecake) here and it's awful xD)

For the last question, a pig is a derogatory slang term for a police officer. A bling pig would be a place that the police do not see. (My interpretation) Also to answer your follow up, a hogshead is a unit of liquid measurement (about 300 litres)

#TeamBenjamin I check the end first to see if Ben wins and then only watch if he does. This series always seems to me like older brother J making Ben do things that J likes, forcing Ben to like them, and only doing things that J wins. Like me and my older brother. But maybe I'm projecting.
