I can't stop listening to this legend and crew even in 2024. Tears on my eyes everytime, the beauty and talent was out of this world. He transcended everytime he performed.😭
i believe taste and preferences differs but i also strongly believe that there is a certain level of music goodness that automatically qualifies as a benchmark of music greatness before we start asking each others preference. this is classical whether there is somebody out there who likes it or not .
As a Poet each time i listen to such African songs... i became pregnant with words even though my heart runs in tears, but at the end i am inspired to keep writing until my hand can not hold a pen and my pen drays of link...i wont stop writing until, until... To you Bra Jabu my our soul rest in peace....
This african girls added a nice feel to the song ,maan I don't think we will have such anymore it saddens me that we are loosing the foundation of this greatness wish Is culture .. where did we go wrong 🤔
The musical combination of SA and Zim has always yielded great results. From Hugh Masekela-Oliver Mtukudzi Mtukudzi-Ringo Madlingozi Steve Kekana-James Chimombe (Cecilia song) Miriam Makeba-Dorothy Masuku These two above More recently Mafikizolo-Jah Prayzah And more not to mention those to follow
I initially got to appreciate this song years way back, a week or two back i just got hooked on it again as if i'm hearing for the very first time - what a classic!
What a beautiful song and a beautiful performance! How could I not have known anything about this fellow until today? So sad he died so young -- I hope he had children who should continue from where he stopped. I have listened to other songs of his and they are all spectacular; the guy was a super talent. But he was not as animated on his other performances as he was here -- he was likely sick after this performance or he mellowed down with age.
It's my first time seeing this version and hearing about Don Gumbo. This is far better than the studio version i've been listening to over the years. Thank you to the person who put this up here. Collaborations are always gonna bring the best from both artist, am loving the tunes. Lala kahle Mathimula.......nawe mfoka Gumbo.
Jabu Khanyile & Bayethe, Soul Brothers, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse & Harare, Steve Dyer & Southern Freeway and Johnny Klegg & Savuka/Juluka are those groups who migrated to Zimbabwe in the 80-90s when their music was suppressed by the Apartheid regime, obviously that's where these friendships that resulted in early collaborations started. Funny enough when the situation started to become bad in Zim, most Zim musicians started to flock to South Africa and Europe, names like Don Gumbo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Lewis Mhlanga, Appleseed and many more. To me the best ever collaboration from Southern Africa is Mahube.
Bab' Khanyile and mam' Busi and Mfaz' Omnyama are artists I wish were alive, what I would give to see them perform live 😩 Wish I was at least in my 20s when they passed on, perhaps I would've understood their music better thus appreciate and attend their talent/greatness/music
