What can I say. I want to see Jack's work out there as much as possible. He was one of the greats. If this video gives you chills and pulls your heartstrings, get on over and sign the petition put up by a few devoted WVU fans that requests the Milan-Puskar stadium pressbox be named for Jack. Worthy cause indeed.
Petition to formally dedicate the press box to Jack Fleming:

Jack and Myron, both gone...neither forgotten. Jack's call of the Immaculate Reception, one of the most memorable ever. As a Pitt fan, I know we'd most likely get the short end of both games, but Pitt, Penn State and West Virginia need to be playing each other every year.

This brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. I was in college at the time of this scene setter and vividly remember listening to this used as a promo in years following the actual game. If there is one name that deserves to be enshrined on Milan-Puskar it, is Jack Fleming. He brought Mountaineer football to life for thousands of Mountaineer fans who couldn't attend the games in person. Radio remind you of your home far away? Part of that was Jack Fleming.

What does WVU mean to its fans, it's Alumni? Well, I've had this video saved to an album called WVU Game Day for many years. Today's game is a big deal. Opening up against a very familiar foe in V.T. A team we hate, a team that owes us!! I opened my album that has over 100 videos of WVU. I play them on my peripheral screens on game day....over the dart board....the office ....the bar. The big screen waits, solely for the Mountaineers! The first video I went to this year was Jack. I had barely clicked the play button and was overwhelmed with emotion. I was greeted with a voice I heard in my bedroom, through a radio.....linking me to something that I had no idea I would be a part of. Jack, working me into a frenzy as I pretended to be The Major. I remember my first visit to campus as a kid visiting my sister. The buzz....the pageantry, the camaraderie. I was reminded of my time there. The wins....the losses. Days in the classroom, nights with life long friends. A million hugs, cheers, smiles, and memories came pouring back. Tears rolled and the tracks they left were for everything that I have grown to love about my Alma Mater. That....is what WVU means to its fans...it's Alums. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Started listening to Jack Fleming in 1970 I consider myself a very knowledgeable football fan especially when it come to WVU. Jack Fleming is the Voice of WVU I always considered him in a league all by himself Woody O"hara would introduce him as the voice of the Mountaineers . I was so proud to be a Mountaineer fan. no one meant more to WVU athletics than Jack Fleming.

I realized that players come and go, and coaches and coaching staff, also .. but the one given that we knew that would always return was the team of Jack Fleming and Woody O'Hara. It has not been the same since both of them left .. but then, I don't know that I would ever want it to be. We miss you both.

I know I'm like many West Virginians..............WVU wasn't on TV as much back in the day....and if they were, we didn't have cable until I was in high school. And that was o.k., we didn't know different. But we had the radio..........and we had Jack Fleming so it was, in many ways, better. How many people took that radio out to the tool shed, out into the woods, maybe just on the back porch or in the kitchen. With WV autumn colors and cool breezes surrounding us, WE were at the game.

What made this scene setter so dramatic was the timing with the band. What isn't remembered is that he was just as good week in and week out. That, and his ability to take jabs at Pitt (sucks) even when he was calling Steelers games. ;)

Jack was the Mountaineers for those of us who could only listen on the radio. From my first recollection of a devestating 36-35 loss to the evil empire from Pitt to the amazing td run of Major Harris over the Nittany Lions and yes even the blocked punt to Miami... Jack was the sound of WVU. I know he was gone, but the Sugar bowl win over Georgia must have had his spirit smiling. Go Mountaineers

I do believe this was from the 1986 game. I was there and remember it was a night game. Jack Fleming does indeed deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. Lets Go Mountaineers!!

i wish Wvu would have played Penn st in the 2000"s because Wvu would beat their ass easy 8 out of 10 times..lol

@wvuweaponX I do know that the series was lopsided, but the only Penn State game I actually remember was 1988, when I was 12. Of course we won that one. Not too long after that the we stopped playing them.

Wow this video is great... brought tears to my eyes. I was too young to remember Jack Fleming calling games... but I'm never too young to appreciate him. Man if only he were around today to call some of the amazing moments of Mountaineer Football that has happened in recent years. We miss you, Jack.
