I went to the Grand Old Opry in 2009 and saw Jack Greene sing this song...;. He was no spring chicken and he sang this song without a mistake and with that same strong voice he's always had AND HE GAVE THIS OL BOY GOOSEBUMPS ON TOP OF GOOSEBUMPS!! A performance I will NEVER forget...

From Ireland here, I’ve only come across Jack Greene in the last few months from listening to US country station HPR. What a singer sounds one of the best I’ve ever heard. I’m 66 love US real country music not the modern so called country. Watching and listening to Jack here in 2008 he is not miming a or reading, he sounds as good as ever and to think he died just five years after this. RIP to a great singer

Jack Greene sounded awesome for his age at that time! He was truly one of the early country music icons that probably never got the credit he deserved. Every time I hear that powerful song it sends chills down my spine. And think about how many of us can relate to that song at least once in our life.

And there are a LOT OF PEOPLE who think that Ricky Van Shelton was the ORIGINAL PERFORMER of this song. NOBODY does it better than Jack Greene. May he rest in ETERNAL PEACE. This was done in 2008. He passed away 5 years later from Alzheimer's which is relatively quick for an Alzheimer's patient.

Jack Greene belongs in the Country Music Hall of Fame, without question! The first winner of CMA Male Vocalist of the Year and numerous other career highlights! This is a great video and was a great show. Those of us trying to make a living in this business owe a lot to all of these guys! Jack Greene is a dear friend of mine and I spent the afternoon with him and LeeAnn Thursday. What a great man!

Rest in Perfect Peace Mr. Greene. In 1979 I was 14 yrs old. We lived in Dayton Ohio. I loved this song, but had only heard it on the radio. I never saw Jack sing it. We went to the Grand Ole Opry on our family vacation and we're able to go backstage. My sister and I had our picture taken with Jack. Later, I heard the song being sung but we were on Roy Acuff's dressing room, so I still couldn't put a face to the song. Recently while watching Country's Family Reunion I saw this same video. I was both shocked and excited, I not only can put his face with this song, but I also have the picture with him, my little sister and myself. Awesome song. Awesome talented man. They don't make them like Jack and Stonewall and Roy- Acuff and Clark. Billy Walker and the lovely Miss Patty Page anymore.

My mother was a country singer/ songwriter and when I was a kid she would make me go with her to Opry houses around Texas. One night when I was about 11 years old after a show we had dinner with Jack Greene in Mesquite Texas. I remember him being such a nice and amazing guy. I didn’t know how lucky I was to get to talk to him and shake his hand. But I sure do now.

the song never dies-just the singer- love has no beginning and no end- it's a circle we came from and will go to -where all those great voices will still be heard and we join in-maybe flying on the wings of a dove0[ferlin] or the old violin strings- [johnny]- hank will be there on a midnight train-roy--gene autry-now george J. gets his choices-ain't we got fun-spreading the love to the humans on that planet !!

Just wanted to post this. I have listened to this song, only by Jack Greene, often over the years. I'm 78 now but at the time I first heard this song I was 28 and in a huge club called Randy's Rodeo. My soon to be ex husband was playing there that night and I was there dancing with every one I could. When my ex started talking on the mic he said words to this effect. "This next song is dedicated to my soon to be ex wife. I hope she is paying attention." He played Statue of a Fool. It broke my heart. I never realized he cared that much. We had married so young. I met him when I was 15 and we married when I was 17. We had two beautiful sons. But when we split it was because he wanted to date as according to him he had never known any other girls. I told him "no we are married, if you want to date we have to get a divorce". So we did. By the time I heard him play that song and sing it to me I was having what I thought was the time of my life. Long story short, I'm 78 now and I really regret losing him. He will always be my best friend if not my husband.
