Karnehm is probably best known as a BBC commentator between 1978-1994 - notably he was commentating on Thorburn's 147 break at the Crucible, and his final match was the 1994 World Final.
He made an instructional video called Understanding Modern Snooker which is still available on dvd, but his passion was billiards. He won the UK Billiards Championship in 1980.
This is one of two instructional videos he made for billiards. The other, Tough at the Top, is available on RU-vid.

At 10:10 the legend was clear that the content is to be acquired at a price from him directly. Is there any trust formed protecting the ocntent? I wonder, whether his wishes are being carrried out. I for one have been his ardent follower and I had purchased a book at Madras Moore Market for Rs.17/- during 1990s titled Billiards and Snooker by Jack Karnheim. That book was my guru for the game. To my misfortune, I believed in sharing the wisdom and had lent the book and never saw it again! That book contents are etched in memory and even today I keep flipping the pages mentally time to time. Many of players today do not know of him and probably through this upload he will continue to share the podium amongst the greats of this wonderful dicipline. Vish

Best commentator for me, classic voice and knew the game inside out.

This could more or less run as a snooker tutorial as well (minus potting the cue ball). Technique is everything. That said, this is definitely one of those videos that could help insomniacs

One of those voices that I could listen to all day. Up there with Ted Lowe as the voice of snooker (I know this is about billiards but he was intimately involved with both games).

Poor old Jack looked like he was struggling here. Saw him play an exhibition with Mike Russell in 96. Best thing i ever saw that was when Mike was in his pomp

Ted had a great voice but didn't know the game very well in fairness.

@@johnmc3862 I think Ted had a pretty good knowledge of the game but wanted to create drama for the TV spectators. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm sorry to say he was one of my least favourite commentators.clive Everton was best one .Steven hendry is good as knows the game better than most how to split packs he was best of all at that .
@heliumtrophy
@heliumtrophy 2 года назад
I enjoyed his commentaries but I would be the first to admit that he could be a little dry. Everything always felt very gentle and delicate instead of Ted's whispering theatrics and Clive's rather scholarly attitude towards it all. I suppose that was all part of the fun really.

@@heliumtrophy yeah a bit posh way for my liking.i like virgo as he is down to earth .

@@ianwilliamson2980 Seeing as I read he was a descendant of a Czech baron, Karnehm was as posh as you can get. Virgo got on my nerves over the last few years. The shouting and having that irritating habit of doing post-predictive way of commentating. That said, that doesn't diminish his status as a legend in the game.

It's hard to beat Everton. I liked Karnhem myself. You need a translator for McManus.
