Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are two of the greatest screen actors ever. Both of them have the ability to play either very dramatic or very comedic. They are truly amazing together as well as apart.
It will sound funny, but I don’t want to believe that dear Jack Lemon is not around anymore. I’m sending my love and blessings to him and his family. Prayers from Istanbul ♥️
Greetings from America 🇺🇸 Jack and Walter are in Heaven above , laughing and joking with Our Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST - and we'll get to meet them some sunny day 🙏 ✝️🙏
Jack was such a great guy. One of my favorites. He and Walter were one of the best duos in film history. Jack was actually a good piano player too. He loved jazz and played quite well. Wouldn't you love to have had the opportunity to just sit with him, have a beer, and chat? Smart, pleasant, calm, warm.
I just love Jack Lemmon's enthusiast and passion about his work. U can tell, he really loves his job as an actor. I'm gonna have a Jack Lemmon movie marathon for sure.
It is Lemmon and Matthau. Lemmon was always the lead (as in Grumpy Old Men). Matthau was incredibly funny but Lemmon was one of the greatest actors of all time. He wasn’t tight cast in any way.
ALL interviewers should take heed of what made Michael Parkinson so exceptional at his profession: 1) he was well prepared 2) he asked excellent questions in a clear, concise manner 3) he then shut up and allowed his guests to answer them, WITHOUT interrupting constantly (UNlike Charlie Rose, David Letterman, Jay Leno and their successors, who seemed to never find a microphone they could resist).
Jack Lemmon was a perfect gentleman when describing the antics of Marylin Monroe. I agree with him because she had personal issues. The best role Jack had was the nuclear engineer in The China Syndrome. The dramatic role he played was flawless.
Always a treat to see both of these great men get together when they tell their stories either collectively or individually. Both have achieved success in their careers and there will never be any other quite like these two.
Michael Parkinson is an Excellent interviewer! He makes today's talk show hosts look like amateurs. Lemmon and Mathau are one of the greatest comedy duos in film, ever.
Was there ever anyone better than Jack Lemmon with comedy or drama? And in a crazy Hollywood, he remained upright and scandal free. That in itself is absolutely amazing!!!
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau whenever they come on a talk show or any show I watch it. They are so hilarious together on everything. I miss them so so much. What a couple of great guys! Wish they were still around.
Jack (and his dear friend Walter) is one of those great actors whom, every time we see them, seem as though they are still with us. Brilliant talent and ability and, frankly, who doesn't have the warmest affection for them? The main sadness which comes to mind is that Jack and Walter are NOT with us on this earth...but thank goodness their legacies are!
I don't care what generation you are ...at one point or another we were lucky enough to experience the magic they created. It was timeless...humor and love always are.
At 19:27 when he starts to laugh you here a touch of the Prince Hoepnick laugh from The Great Race. Awesome interview. Grew up watching so many of his movies. His talent was so rare and there is no one else like him.
Jack Lemmon's story about putting his fist through the door and getting stuck is hilarious, due to how he tells it. He was a theater and cinema treasure! Same with Walter Matthau--HIS story about appearing on stage with Rex Harrison is equally funny.
Wonderful talent. Both actors gave us some great laughs and strong remarkable memorable characters. Jack Lemmon and Judy Holiday did a film (forgive me if I mis-spell it) Pfftt! and one scene is a dance....what spirit they put into that scene!
Thanks so much for recording and uploading this brilliant piece of hollywood history...and with our owld mucker Parky...I remember this at the time and so glad to be able to watch it agian...and again.....
For JONATHAN SUTCLIFFE: No, it's not you. Things are, indeed, blander than bland. Today's celeb cannot hold a candle to yesteryear's stars. Lemmon and Matthau were absolute geniuses and raconteurs extraordinaire. They could talk for hours and hours and barely scratch the surface of their rich and vibrant lives. The reason older interview pieces let the camera run on and on, is because they are well aware the subject of their interview can sustain 'a performance' without any hint of tedium. Today's celeb has nothing to say beyond the project they are working on. It's a very superficial sort of interview we get today - a snippet of this, a sound bite of that. Nothing for the heart or soul. Then again, I could say as much for the movies they are producing these days. No 'Apartment's' 'La Douce's' Hot's etc. The Odd Couple - the movie...does it get any better than this?!?
Jack smoking in the set. that's something that would never happen today. Both phenomenal people. Hollywood hasn't and will not replace them. practically impossible. Different era today.
Three legends, two from Hollywood, one from Barnsley. The best actors and the best ever UK chat show host. They don't make shows like this any more, as they don't make anyone like Lemmon, Matthau and Parkinson any more.
Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau 2 of the greatest actors that can do comedy, serious rolls and they were the best of friends. No one can ever do the odd couple than these 2.
Save the Tiger and Days of Wine and Roses; perhaps two of the best movies ever. After watching Days of Wine and Roses I gave up drinking for a couple of months. I wasn't an alcoholic but the movie scared me so much I poured my three bottles of booze down the sink.
@@jec1ny Yes, and I'm pretty sure everyone has seen the bad effects of alcohol consumption (I had a glass of wine last night🙂) but I have no inclination to get drunk. In regard to alcohol, I watched a documentary about 35 years ago. It dealt with the crime and frustrations of people in a big eastern U.S. city. At the end of the program the police chief stated, in his opinion alcohol was something like the pressure release valve on a pressure cooker. He thought that, while too much alcohol caused real problems it also tended to keep major insurrections at bay so that his city didn't explode like a pressure cooker without a release valve.
OMG. So much laughing for me. I've been a fan of Jack Lemmon probably since the late 1960s. "The Odd Couple" is my favorite movie of theirs. Just a great movie. How I love to hear actors give their own stories. I'm sorry the scene from "The Odd Couple" was cut from this post. I'm looking for part 2 now!
Perhaps an interesting point; I'm not interested in actors because they are famous, I'm interested in people who are genuinely interesting. Most of these older guys and gals in the business came up the hard way, from more or less hard times. Today we don't have that so much; the people born from, say, 1885 through 1925 are far more interesting than anything we have now.
my favorite Walter Matthau movie is still Charley Varrick, but he was awesome in Pelham 123 also. Lemmon had too many great roles to zero in on but The Apartment for me was incredible.
I wish Doris Day and Jack would've made more movies together. They were such a natural believable couple on It Happened to Jane. Jack has said he adored Doris and that she was a very talented natural comedic actress.
Lemmon and Curtis were very pretty. Seriously (they were), Lemmon was gigantic on stage and on film, but leaves a gigantic hole still in his profession and our individual cinematic experience. He sadly cannot be replaced. An innovator, and a leader, and a universally respected and generous colleague is gone. And a very entertaining actor for us is still missing.
