One more Jack Russell fact... They are extremely stubborn 🐕 dogs, and have a mind of their own. My Jack Russell decides if he wants to listen to me or not and sits there thinking if he wants to do it or ignore me. Little brat, either way I still luv him and will never give him up.
They are extremely quick learners and can be trained to do almost anything. Although someone once told me you can teach a Jack Russell anything, except "no".
I have a person with long legs he’s mixed with fox terrier. Wonderful dog made me cry for the first three months I had him but now I love them so much. CANNOT Even imagine my life without him!
I share my life with three of them. The four of us sleep on what used to be 'my bed'. The four of us embark upon many miniature adventures on the hill behind my house.... I need not say more.
I had my Holly dog for twenty yrs and her Partner for 17.5 yrs. The hole they leave is enormous. I'm getting on now. I think I'm going to get my little Sammy a little girl and get back to having a family.
Love my 11 year old, Nikko. He is all and more. Love him to pieces. He is the perfect blend of what my husband and I were looking for....he acts like a big dog, but he cuddles like a little one.
Great video. Other facts I love about JRs: they are very strong-willed (meaning ornery). :) It's "I'm doing what I want, you don't like it get out of my way." They are also highly protective and loyal, great watch dogs. You DON'T want to break into a house with a JR. Or venture into their yard for that matter. Also they are totally - totally - fearless. I have seen JRs chase German Shepherds and Chows away. There is also a famous story (you can find online) of a JR taking one not one but TWO pit bulls attacking and child and saving the child's life, costing it its own life. They are the greatest dogs ever.
I have i Yorkie/Jack Russell and the Jack Russell part is dominate. I named her “Tank” because she mows everything down, barges her way through obstacles, barks incessantly (that’s the Yorkie part) and has that strong, compact, bowed stance. I just adore her.
My Ionger legged JRT (Gus) loved playing with young children. On school holidays they would come to our door asking if Gus could come out to play in the garden. It was great to hear them running about with him and squealing with delight. He was white with two back ears and black tail. He died in April 2021. Still hurts.
My wire coat JRT “Stoli” passed away after 18 good years on Thanksgiving Day this year. His last two years he was deaf and blind and yet his favorite game was still, “Let’s trip Dad”. I’ve owned a few over the years and my wife brought home a pup a few months before my old boy passed and Seseme surely softened the ache of loosing him. She gets along splendidly with our 5 other mixed breed rescues.
Had a JRT for 19 years. Milo lived a long life. Miss him, but that crazy dog would always tear something up or pee somewhere as soon as you left the room. Never could leave him alone for a minute. Some referred to him as a Jack Russell Terrorist.
JRTs love to compete with other JRTs, especially in races and other trial events. They instinctively know how to "go to ground," they burrow underground or follow the existing tunnel to "bay" and "worry" their prey. These little dogs are incredibly smart and strong-willed. If you are looking for a lap or purse dog, don't be deceived by their small size, they need a lot of outdoor exercise and a job to do. After all, they were bred to be "working" dogs. They are clever and will invent their own work (usually destructive) if you don't give them work to do. These tiny dogs are fierce and fearless and, when trained properly, a lot of fun. Russells Rule!!
My long legged smooth coat JRT was a therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International for many years. They told me it's hard for them to pass the tests required such as being left in a room with strangers for five minutes. Harley was 18 years old when he left to become an angel in August of 2021. He will live forever in my heart.
I miss my Bret, we went everywhere together. I lost him A year & A half ago after my son threw up his pain medication. He was dying of cancer and was taking a lot. I took him to the vet but wouldn’t take him because of coved restrictions. They said to Monitor him, I argued but it didn't help. He dyed in my arm's 5 o'clock the next morning. My son dyed 10/1/21 6 month's later. My God I miss them both! The prices of Jacks are so high now I can’t afford to buy one. So I’m trying to adopt one. Bret and I went hunting every day. Hhad killed 2 or 3 hundred rats 2 possums A raccoon. He kept fox treed all day once I had to carry him home he did not want to leave. He loved riding in the pickup, allways trying to go faster. If you called out (squirrel) he would get all exited. he'd hurt your ears barking sometimes but it's was OK I enjoyed it. He will be mist forever. I always said he was the greatest dog that ever lived!!!!
My Jack Russell Terrier will have a coon or a possum or some kind of critter in the pot every night... I've had dogs all of the larger breeds for 50 years and of course I loved each one of them.... but my Jack Russell Terrier is a stand out Above the Rest.. Extreme intelligence... ninja type skills... Extreme Speed and Agility... and the tenacity to chase a 300-pound oilman running for his life back to the truck..lol. they are the best security system you could ever have.... I've never had a better friend..
I’ve always had JRT. I have 3 now at my 70 year old. Ages 1 1/2, 14, and 16. The oldest and I are never apart. She saved my life at my pals hunting camp when I got sick from cancer. She went the got my pals attention by barking, jumping and running towards the area I was laying on the ground. My pal resized he had to follow her to me where he helped me back to the hunting camp. Never have I ever loved a dog like Macie. She has been a great friend and buddy. Never apart but when that day come she will have earned her wings for heaven.
Jack Russell Terriers are still Jack Russell Terriers. The name is the property of the Jack Russell Terrier Clubs. The American Kennel Club tried to take over the name, but lost their lawsuit. So they created the Parson Russell Terrier name for their dogs. Parson Russells derive from the Jack Russells, and at first aren't much different, but they won't stay that way. AKC breed standards require closed stud books, automatic acceptance of all pups in a litter, and do not allow behavioral standards. JRTC recognizes a dog as a JRT at the age of one year, and only if that individual meets the standards regardless of his parentage, and the critical classes in JRTC confirmation competitions are open only to dogs who have been certified to hunt two or more of the specified prey species. So JRTs will remain JRTs. PRTs will not, because without continuous reinforcement of the JRT behavioral traits in every generation, they will quickly drift. Remember, the smooth and wire-coated fox terriers used to be breeds that could go to ground after a fox. Neither can, any more. Their chests are too thick and their shoulders lack the necessary flexibility. And most lack the prey drive that defines the JRT.
I lost my Jazz boy Feb 2, 2022. I swear he was a reincarnated male human, stubborn, highly intelligent , incredibly handsome, unpredictable and just full of love. I miss him so very much.
I don’t know about other jack Russells, but mine will literally keep running until his legs start to buckle. I have to literally stop him so he can rest.
My JR is tucked under the Duvet next to me as I type this, I can confirm she is stubborn and doesn't always listen and tough (she took on a sheep 7 times her weight the other day), but is the most loving little dog and a character, she has kept me going after losing my partner to cancer a few years ago.
Unless you are willing to pay lots of attention and are active, there’s a quote “You can’t handle a Jack Russell!!” If you want a lap dog, get a lap dog. They are crazy, in a good way. Remember they were bred to flush out foxes from holes. You need to be a little crazy to go into a hole with a fox that has its back to the wall. The little dog that can, because it doesn’t consider itself little Cheers
Yep,l've had two and they have both done it.People say are they hurt but they swap legs and do it. Some say they temporary dislocate them, mine have been fine.
I just recently got a Jack... We developed a thing where we went for a walk every single night he whines and whines and literally has tears on his face because he wants to walk but we can't because we was attacked by a pitbull in our own yard. That little guy let me know the dog was coming and he tried to protect me. Only had him about a month...
In the UK Parson Jack Russells have longer legs. The Normal Jack Russell has short legs. Don’t care what Kennel Clubs say… a JACK RUSSELL is JACK RUSSELL! The most amazing dogs I have ever come across ❤❤❤❤❤
I first was introduced to the breed watching the sitcom Frasier. Eddie was a remarkable dog and I've always been drawn to the compact, spunky, athletic breeds. They remind me of who I was as a kid. JRTs, Belgian Malinois, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers(Staffy) have been my most desired with the latter being my actual breed for almost 20 years to date.
I had to have my jrt put to sleep just last Tuesday. He wasn't even two. Reason being he had become so agresive that I could not even hold him. I miss him so much 😭
My wife and I adopted a short-legged JRT already named 'Marmite' and upon seeing his 'love it or hate it' and many 'issues', decided to retain the name. When he was older, sadly, we had to have him PTS because of an aggressive cancer to spare him further suffering. Our loss left us heartbroken and we so, (still do) loved that dog. ... 😒
Very sorry to hear this. We just lost our 16 year old girl a few days ago. Heart breaking. They have a special way, these little dogs, even with their “issues”!
My Molly would jump down cliffs and using her hind legs like a ratchet she would slow her descent and move intinctively toward almost impossible to see ledges looking for a seagul's nest. Moreover, she would take note of any that were either out of reach or that she was dropping too fast to move towards. Invariably dropping into sand she thought nothing of a 2m drop and roll to turn and immediately scramble up almost sheer vertical faces of rock sand climbing root systems (nosing beneath them to keep from falling but losing no speed in locating the nest barking all the while and then giving chase after the flock of angry birds firstly getting her attention and then drawing her away very cleverly working together. The first time I let her out of the car she instinctively summed everything up about this new walk and running flat out across a big car park (Bar Beach Newcastle, NSW Australia - best chips EVER!) and just flew over the edge my heart stopped! I had to take a less precipitous route to the bottom only to find her half way back up and locked in mortal combat, lol, for the contents of the nest - which she never did get to but I know now thankyou! A true "bayer" not so much Obeyer - not in these moments anyway!) Great to watch as Molly has long since moved on. 😔
They are 15lbs but think they are 500lbs and leads to stupid and interesting situations. But mostly stupid situations u have to go and save them from them selves occasionally.
My female has jumped and caught low flying birds twice but released them on command. Russell bred some interesting behaviors into them, the sitting up and begging when they want something and that incredible ability to communicate what it is that they want.
I must admit that I loved all Jacks in this video. But mine I love at most. He doesn't jump six times his own height though. Maybe he once did, but now while being nearly 11 y.o. he definitely doesn't. He's still slim and muscular as he's always been. I couldn't think of owning another dog. And definitely not another race. Even though it makes me a racist. JRTs rule.
The JRT and the Parsons JRT are two separate dog breeds in England. The JRT is the classic terrier and the Parsons jack is a longer legged version of the JRT
The AKC changed the name of the long-legged version of the breed to the Parson Russell Terrier. The short-legged version remained the Jack Russell Terrier.
I love my Jack Russell , he listens when he wants too very stubborn...mine gets out of the fence where I have to chase him down the street for a hour..
Our Jack Russells have a different bark when there is a snake and they used it just 2 nights ago. We were able to catch and release the python here in Queensland, they are the best dogs ever ❤
Lol, just another day at play for a courageous JRT, but chasing a "python" that's next level skill. Ty, for sharing this profile in angelic JRT courage. Pacifico beer cheers from US.
My jack Russell gets a little excited In the evening. I’ve tried different things to get them to get a little exercise. Does anybody have any ideas of maybe things I could buy for the dog to keep her busy in the evening?
Play with her, i is the same with ours. half an hour before sleeping, she becomes active, but you can stay on the sofa playing with a rope with her, or let her bite a strong leather glove (she might even throw it down for you to signal it is playing time). Or if nothing is at hand, a short play of tapping her paws will drive her mad and exhausted. just tap on the paw she is not currently watching und increase he speed.
My JRT usually stays busy by burrowing on blankets or chewing on tough chew toys like the Kong brand bones. Or I keep his mind busy by hiding small treats on an Outward Hound Dog Tornado Puzzle Treat Dispensing Dog Toy where you can hide treats. They really stay busy if they have something mind stimulating to do.
I myself have a Frenchie, best well behaved dogs as far as I’m concerned and I’ve had various breeds in my lifetime. My brother’s x-girlfriend had a Jack Russell well over a decade ago. Good thing they broke up around that same decade, lol. He was an escape artist. Bit a few people in the neighborhood. Lucky she never got sued!! Js
One more jack russel fact: Did you know that some jack russels can have a color to their fur that the vet calls blue? It isn't actually fully blue but it is more of a dark gray color with a blue-ish tint to it and it is rare. I have a jack russel and she has that color to her. Oh and one more thing, some insurance companies won't let you own one because they are known as "viscous" but I don't think they are 😔They are such sweet dogs!
My JRT considered cars to be prey. She chased a delivery van and lost a leg. Now a tripod she doesn't seem to notice it at all. She still clocks in a 18 mph. Best dog i ever had.
One thing that you forgot to mention is how fast they are. It's the fastest small dog, and usually ranks in about 5th fastest of all dogs. All the other dogs above them on that list are about twice their size.
When mine sees another dog he talks to it. It really sounds like some kind of language. Dog language I guess. Or maybe he is baying but it's a sound I've never heard from another dog.
The history is a bit skewed. Also, another word for Reverand is the title known as 'Parson' (pronounced, PAR'-sun ... not par-SON - as the bot was programmed to say).
Spot was an |Australian dog from New South Wales. All the advertisements were filmed in New South Wales. The advertising company had a deal with the owners to not reveal the true identity of the dog. Perhaps a little more checking and you would have easily learned this.
My female Jack Russell is amazing I've seen her jump high enough to pull low flying birds out of the air.. Luckily she's a good girl and obedient so all it took was one command to let go and she did.
