I found my jack in a parking lot 3.5 years ago. I love mine beyond belief. The pros and cons are accurate. I love how affectionate he is, he's my little shadow. His discovery also helped me kick my alcohol addiction too, so all the wins with this breed.

My jack Russell was the first and last dog I've ever had. Patch was 15 when he died 5 years ago now. I still miss him terribly, I have mental health issues and my care worker suggested I get a dog to force me out doors , as I didn't like leaving the house. We got him as a 9 week old pup from the Blue Cross rescue centre, he was hard work to begin with as puppies are, but he became my best friend and always knew when I was distressed. He'd sit on my feet and let me play with his ears, (he loved that) he would go crazy if he saw me take my bike out of the shed as he loved coming with me when I went out on my bike. He would fuss and whine at the window watching me as he thought I was leaving him behind. I would take him on his lead then let him off when I got to the country road, where he would stay obediently at my side while I cycled along, he always obeyed my commands, he was very intelligent as mentioned in this channel, it's as if he could almost read my thoughts. Having said that he disliked cats immensely, and was very good at catching mice, he was very good at sniffing them out of their holes, he'd amusingly puff into the mouse hole until the mouse jumped out, then that was it, end of mouse!! . Only he wouldn't part with it, I had many embarrassing moments, walking him home with a mouse tail hanging out of his mouth whilst looking very proud of his catch. I got some very strange looks from people. I had to sneak it out of his bed while he was elsewhere in order to retrieve it. He did chase wild rabbits too and sometimes catch them 😔, but as also mentioned, Jack Russell's chase things, they are instinctive hunters. He also liked retrieving the post to hide in his bed too, I got some very warm letters where he'd been laying on them. Maybe one day I'll get another one, but I found it so hard to let him go when he became old, deaf and very poorly, it broke my heart. I couldn't bare to see him suffer, but the vet was so good, she cried with me. I called him patch because he was all white with one ginger patch covering his left ear and eye. He was also an all year round molter, white hairs absolutely everywhere every day of every year. That was my biggest challenge on dark carpets and clothes. Small price to pay for such a loyal and loving friend.

I have never owned a Jack Russell until a week ago. My husband found it out in the cold, someone had put it out like the trash, probably a Christmas gift that they decided they couldn't handle. She is adorable, she is 5 weeks old so you can imagine needs a lot of attention and care, especially at night as she didn't have the opportunity to be weened by her mom. But since we have lots of experience with dogs from over the years she's not a problem. I elected to be her buddy so I do the night feeding and gather any and all waste. We'll get there. TFS all your tips and tricks you can count on me as a new subscriber. Tina

@@sharrondebby7950 thank you for asking Sharon. She's 8 weeks now and a ball of fire. She runs like a speed demon and has so much energy I could only wish to keep up after her. We're working on paper training and I'm happy to say she goes to the door about 80% of the time to go out. Were still working on the other 20%. She's also sleeping really well thru the night, and she loves to play ball with both of us. It's fun to have a dog who loves to retrieve. We just love her to death.

I have raised several Jacks all at once. I called them “my pack of jacks”. They were the best friends I’ve ever had, and followed me all over my farm. I have so many wonderful memories. They started passing away at the age of 15-17 years old, and that’s been over the last 2 years. I have one left and he morns with me. I miss them so much. I just hope they will be in heaven waiting on me some day.

I absolutly agree with your pros n cons. We allowed him to distroy his own toys and we still provide a lot to him in his 4th yesr. He never destroyed anything other than that. One other absolute con for me is that airlines accept dogs up to 8kg as dog in cabin. I had the first trip from Rovaniemi to Frankfurt when he was 10 weeks old. Since then he was always with me crisscross Europe. Businesstrips as well as holidays as he likes to swim and dig in the beaches sand. By traveling he learned quickly to stay silent alone in a hotel room over hours. We kepp the tv always on and have his own toys with us. So he feels somehow safe and is not too disrupted from people walking and talking outside. When he came to us I fixed a tiny bell near the door and rang it whenever we went out for a pee. He learned within a week to ring the bell himself whenever he needed to get out for a pee. (Later he extended that comunication bell to 'I wanna play', I'm hungry','lets take a walk'.....

I have two Jack mixes and I love them. They are less hyper than pure breed Jack Russells and are annoyingly smart. They can climb, open cabinets, get through obstacles, and move chairs to get what they want. Definitely worried about separation anxiety with the puppy when I go back to work

Mine does have separation anxiety on occasion, but never had a crate problem. He's getting better with the boredom that happens on occasion, and has no problem being caged when I am at work. He goes right to it when he knows it's work time.

We have had our Jack Russell (a female) for 12 years, and she still thinks she is a young dog. She is exceptionally mellow, and has always been prone to just laying around the house and being very relaxed, and she loves to cuddle especially with my daughter, who is the one she immediately bonded with as a puppy. She will be 13 in April and has been a wonderful dog for us.

We’ve finally picked up our JR puppy and he’s a little pocket rocket 😅 9 weeks old and he can already bomb straight up the stairs if you take your eyes off him for a second! He’s been here 5days and I’ve been clicker training him which he seems to really enjoy. He has bursts of energy bombing round the room then comes up and cuddles into me like a baby and zonks out 😍 just trying to get on top of his biting which can be vicious but I’m reinforcing good behaviour and he’s picking it up really well already 😊

I'm sitting here right now with my 18 year old best friend, Jake, in my lap. We had a good day today full of treats, reminiscing, hugs, and plenty foot massages. His rainbow day is tomorrow, it's late, and we can't sleep. He's so stubborn and loyal that he probably would battle through a couple more years of debilitating arthritis, cushing's, and cataracts just so he can be by my side, but alas, I can't do that to my old boy. As they say, the more bad days than good have come to pass. I know every day after tomorrow there will be a large hole in my heart that no other creature on earth could fill, but I also know how lucky I am to have shared my life with such a loving, intelligent, and comical character. Boy, did we have some adventures! Boy, did we grow in love! Your list is spot on; Jacks are truly special, and make our lives so just by being who they are.

@@daikaregi I'm so sorry for your loss. It's tough. It's been a year and a half, and I can't say the pain goes away, but it does become easier. The first 6 months were the hardest. I still cry on occasion, and think about him most days, but now I think only about our adventures together and how happy he was and the joy he brought to everyone he encountered, instead of the pain I feel. Now most days, I'm left feeling happy with a smile on my face rather than dreadfully sad. For instance, I forgot I had wrote this original comment, and I'm crying now, but it's a good cry. The guilt was/is the hardest part for me; always second guessing my decisions for the entirety of his 18 years of life. My comment here has reminded me that I was a good dog mom to him, and that I shouldn't be doing that to myself. Thank you for the reminder; my heart has lifted a little bit more today. You will never stop missing him, but it does get easier, I promise. It's the price we pay for loving them and boy are they worth it. In fact, my husband and I plan to get two for the next round of love. You'll see, one day your heart will all of a sudden grow bigger and stronger because of the love you have for him, and you will have no other choice but to want to share that love with another little guy.❤

I’ve had him for going on 5 weeks. He is the most wonderful, bright dog! I am in love with the Jack Russell breed. This year I have purchased a JackaMalti that is a crossbreed between a Jack Russell and a Maltese. She is 9 weeks old and is fluffy all over and that is the Maltese The other is the Jack Russell who likes to dig play run around and bark I have a lot of training ahead of me with her because the Jack Russell rears its head and is ready to go when I am not she is tenacious stubborn and just thinks she is the boss but she will soon find out I am or is that wishful thinking she is a lovely combination of the 2 breeds already she sits and waits when I tell her too and all that at just 9 weeks old loved the video and no dought I will watch again to get some ideas of what to do Thank you from the UK

Our female JRT also love giving kisses. The male one does give us kisses but nowhere near as often. 9th pro- (tying into their loyalty) they make great guard dogs if you live on your own. 10th pro- they like to make lots of cute noises.

Jack Russell s are AWESOME LITTLE DOGS and you were spot on in your descriptions of the little guy ours is a male his name is Bandit and im crazy in love with him our first week as Bandits new owners he broke his left from leg and had to have surgery and a metal plate placed right on the growth plate hes all better now just a mere $5,000.00 and he's good as new but you talked about thier boredom and we know first hand because of his love to shred the puppy pads we lay out,I was looking for a way to share a picture of him but Im not seeing a way but he is the cutest.

MY FREIND'S STANDARD POODLE ATE CHOCOLATE AND PLASTIC AT XMAS TIME. THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE CONSUMPTION OF CHOCOLATE AND PLASTIC, UNTIL SHE VOMITED. RUSHED TO THE VET, (5) SURGERIES LATER, SHE DIED ANYWAY.... 35K ($35,000.00) LATER. THE GRIEF AND PAIN, HER PARENTS / FAMILY ARE SWIMMING IN IS BEYOND THE PALE. SO, YOUR 5K REALLY IS JUST A BIG OLD WHINE. PET OWENERSHIP IS NOT CHEAP!

My JRT is a rescue... and a very good hole digger! When I do my garden or have to dig a trench she is awesomeness at the helping. She use to literally eat her toys until I would take them away... now, I just have to say "love your babies, don't eat your babies, " and she licks them and plays nicer. Smart little dog.

One prob w/ my 8 mo old "Franky" he won't come to me!! But he is soooo loving and sweet... we walk for about an hour a day and I let him off leash in a field but he just won't come backto me; i always bring treats that help me to catch him. maybe that's why (because he loves that freedom to run and doesn't want to come back?) anyway! Great video; glad I found your channel :)

My Jacks do not dig but they definitely can jump our 6 ft fence but they never do as they only want to be around us. I was worried they would jump in our above ground pool and they can but they never try unless we’re in the pool. They wear their life jackets and love the water.

Nothing against other breeds. Im a rerired groomer & live ALL dog's & have had difficulty breeds as a pet parent throughout my life, however 2 have stood out as very special personally for me. My German Shepherd/Collie mix and My Shortie JRT. Those two I had at different times in my life journey and throughout their complete live's. Excellent Dog's, loyal, intelligent and loving.

Hello! I have recently fostered a Jack Russel who is about one year old, I found myself nodding along to all of this. Especially the boredom one. This dog is crazy smart. If you are absent and they are bored there will be mischief. If you are present and ignoring them and they are bored there will be MAYHEM. For instance: one day last week I went to work for 4 hours, came home for 30 minutes of play with my terrier, then went out to work for 4 hours again. When I got home I received the most lavish and loving greeting that let me know in no uncertain terms how much I was missed and how worried he was that I wasn't going to come back. I apologised and promised to take more jobs he can come to and resolved not to leave him for more than a few hours in a day. Unfortunately shortly after we had our conversation, I had to take a phone call, which turned into a long one almost two hours. During which my dog repeatedly came to try to get my attention, bringing me toys, coming to my lap for cuddles. After about an hour he knocked my phone over twice and then growled at the person I was on a video call with. I chastised him briefly and put him down on the floor. At some point I had to pause the call to find out what was going on as he was in the process of removing all of the cushions on my sofa, one by one. Upon further investigation I found absolute chaos. Most of the cushions from the sofa in the room I was in, his bed, all his toys, and chews from this room were missing. The living room he had pulled a large storage box over and emptied it of all the cables, chargers, and computer components. These I found, along with the toys and cushions, and one of the ear pieces from my gaming headset, and a large rug in various places of utter disarray around the house. I collected most of it but there were still missing cushions and items. Those I found scattered around the garden. I found an unopened ADSL filter in packet quite thoroughly destroyed and half buried under a tree. I found an unopened packet of thermal paste, thankfully not chewed, in the middle of the lawn where it sat in between two cushions from the sofa. I found a monitor cable in with the carrots in the vegetable patch. I found the rug on the patio upside down. I was mad, but I was also impressed. By my estimation this little 5kg 1 year old dog had done all this in about 30 minutes. What actually got my attention was him literally standing there waving a sofa cushion at me until he got my attention, before quite proudly and deliberately prancing off with it. He was literally screaming at me "LOOK AT WHAT I AM DOING WHILE YOU IGNORE ME!!!". JRT is a quite shockingly intelligent dog, with powerful emotions. If you are their bonded human, you are their entire world, always remember that.

They are great hunters, they are a dominating dogs (the only dog that humps more then a jack rabbit in both male and female) they do bark a lot so if you live in a city or an apartment this dog is not for you, but I must say I loved this video, great content 👍🏼

I retire in 76 days and thinking this is the breed I want. Had dachshunds before Which are similar, love them, and understand Jacks are more high spun. I like kayaking and paddle boarding and would love to take it with me. Also have an e bike on order and would like to take a smaller dog with me in a milk crate or basket. I am converting a van into a camper,. Think this would be excellent companion for that. Would only be left alone in a a crate for an hour or so If going to restaurant. Mostly wouldn't go places it's not welcomed.

2 Jack russells here, sisters nearly 13 years old and the only time they’re ever energetic is when someone’s at the door. The rest of the time they are like statues sleeping on either arm of my armchair. I became ill 2 months after getting them and wasn’t able to walk or exercise them so they’ve never known anything other than being couch potatoes. The only con for me is they cost me a fortune in covers for earphones :D

I’m on my 3rd JR and I have a problem I didn’t have with the other 2. He is 3 years old and he has never been affectionate like my first two. He doesn’t cuddle at all. I think he likes us, he might run by and lick you on the leg but he won’t let you pick him up and he won’t sit in the chair with you. It’s like he’s afraid he’s going to be trapped. He also always has his back to the wall when he eats or drinks. He will chase a ball and bring it back until you finally wear out. I don’t think there is a “fix” for this, he’s just very independent and self sufficient.

I am getting a new Jack Russell tomorrow. The old woman I am getting her from has 11 and this puppy is all white with a gray head and blue eyes. The lady thinks it is from a recessive gene. Her Mom looks a lot like your dog. They are long legged and the lady thinks they will have a shattered coat. I think a long legged one is called a Parsons Jack Russell. I have a beagle mix who met her and adores her and a pomeranian who is afraid of her because I don't think he is sure what she is yet. I think once he realizes she will play with him he will be okay (hopefully). He is very attached to me , but also has very high energy and I think they will have a lot of fun together. He loves to dig too. Her name will be Molly and I am SO excited.

Ex Zoey ( jrt/Akita mutt) is an over hyper escapee and Bubba (jrt beagle) kills everything and is a lounger lol. Love all of them amazing dogs.
