Interesting to see him make fun of the Hitler salute and the nazi goosestep just two years before the war.

More like a show of allegiance as many Brits were sympathetic to the Reich. If he intended to mock Germans, he failed badly. Cf Charlie Chaplin in his epic parody of the fuhror and the banana Mussolini.

@@stan4nowcomplete rubbish he was absolutely for sure mocking the rigidity and stupidity and very rightly so at a time when the hailers had long taken over Germany and brutally trampled down all diverging political groupings and the Nuremberg Laws had been implemented since 1935 denouncing civil rights of all none “German or related blood” citizens Chaplin is irrelevant to this performance just like it would be to criticise Chaplin for being an amateur musician or 3rd grade dancer(compared to f ex. Nijinsky)

the nazi hail salute had been compulsory for all nazi party members since 1926 and been in use since 1921. As you know Nazi’s took over power in 1933

This was how Americans saluted the flag before the war. Congress passed legislation in 1942 instructing Americans to place their right hand over the heart instead.

The reason these artists were great because they had only one job to do, less shows and more time to work on their crafts and not much extra expectations from the artist for eg. Look better, expensive clothes, luxury watches etc... all they were expected is a great performance... If artist were great is because of the audiences.

Great Performance until he started goose-stepping with the Nazi salute. Great Britain was plagued with more than a few misguided sympathizers. So much so, Sir Winston Churchill was forced to carry a firearm because of the threats on his life for trying to increase the arsenal for defense as Germany was doing to wage war. He had warned of The Gathering Storm after his meetings with the fuhror. Any wonder GB was the only nation to stop Germany's advance? God Rest Sir Winston Churchill and all those who held fast.

FFS, it's a comedy act, he's taking the mick. Even in 1935 the National Socialists were seen as a joke, with all the regalia and goose-stepping.
