You can tell you liked that one! It comes to an abrupt end as the end is intermingled with the start of Love Of My Life. Would be great if you could react to that studio version of that one then have a listen to them both together and you will see that its difficult to find where one song ends & the other one starts. 12 minutes of music magic.
@@coralbitten2315 🤣🤣🤣bless you 🙏 it is impossible to have let's say "a favourite !!" So many songs have been my favourite tracks 🤣🤣🤣have a good day Coral 🌠prophets song....la la la la la la is my favourite!!(oops)vocals of all time ....superb👍
My first album I ever purchased as a kid was Night at the Opera. Wore the first side out! Didn’t give the second side much of a chance back then. Later, in college years, a friend had it on in his dorm room, speakers in opposite corners. I heard THIS SONG, and went out and bought every Queen album that existed! Love the stereo tricks they did in the studio!
It took me a couple of listens to get the full appreciation for this song. Now I absolutely love it! Queen have something for every mood and emotion that you have. No band, that I have run across even comes close.
Roy Thomas Baker added regarding Mercury's vocal: "He starts off singing in the center, and then the first delay starts to the left, then the second delay goes to the right, then he can sing and make 3-part harmonies just by harmonizing with himself as it comes back around into his headphones. The delay was done by using two stereo Studer machines - they were still running the tape from one reel to the other the way you'd normally run a tape machine, whereas you run it from one reel through and then off the machine and then straight to a different machine, and then playing back on a different machine, so the tape would actually be laying across the room. There were a few chairs and lamps and coat hooks around that we hooked it over until we ended up with the right delay. He had to perform it live, so it's being performed live with the delays in his headphones and he could hear it so he could sing along with it and then harmonize with the vocals when it came back to him." This is fascinating
Yep! Brian wrote this ... he said it came to him in a dream!! Of course, Freddie, Roger, John & Brian deliver! Brian’s lyrics are awesome. Great reaction David!
Our boys in the 70’s ??? Groundbreaking and memorable on every level How lucky were we to have been on that ride eh ?? Now introducing my 2 year old grandson to queen he’s seriously loving white queen lol 😂
In their album "A Night at the Opera", the ending of "The Prophet's Song" actually segue-ways into "Love of My Life". The piano at the beginning of "Love of My Life" (ANOTHER iconic Queen song) actually seamlessly picks up where the guitar ended in "The Prophet's Song".
The four of them worked so very well together, regardless of the composer. Part of that is that they loved each other as friends, even though their passion led to arguments, but they were creative arguments. Listen to Brian talk about Freddie today, it's usually with a tear in his eye. Nice post, Nemo.
Now 62 years old. Saw Queen live in 1975. Just before Christmas, Glasgow appollo. One of the first performances live of Bohemian Rhapsody. 16 at the time.....never lost the love for F,B,R and JD. BEST BAND ON THE PLANET EVER!!!! God rest Frédéric Bulsara.
@@derekbrand1729 😂😂 we'd all love that derek! the apollo was a great wee venue and Queen played there a few times in the 70's, i still have my white scarf that i bought that night 👑✊🇬🇧
This song is definitely on my top 5 Queen songs, well my top 5 favorite songs ever are also Queen ngl, so it is one of my favorite songs ever XD Eargazm.
LOVE your reaction 🤩 my fav song of ALL time 🔮 since I was 7yrs old, my sisters tape cassette, played on rewind old school tape recorder style hundreds of times ‘till I knew all the words off by heart ❤️ my kids have promised to play it at my funeral 😂
You have no idea how complex this was to record the analog effect. There were no computers or effect-machines back then ... This is handmade! Recorded on one tape and back-played directly into the next tape-machine recording both tracks and playing it on the next wich records it as well, etc. The tapes went thorugh the whole studio over chairs and stuff to get the right delay-timing ... ^^+gg ... and the end of the song is actually the intro of the next song.
And today's youth, without meaning to sound mean, don't realise that all those great artists of the 20s to the 70s didn't have digital equipment to make everything sound instantly wonderful or provide effects. No auto tune and no click tracks. Over dubbing goes back to the sixties, even before The Beatles with the likes of Silver Apples and Can making very modern sounding music with break beats and layers of overdubs, all done by running around a room with loads of tape recorders and a big ol' loop o'tape! They inspired The Beatles to introduce such methods while making Sgt. Pepper's. Brian had originally made his own loop recorder in the early days, converting some existing equipment to extend the time loop and so on, but it was not really roadworthy so something more sturdy was needed, which is also partly what led to the 12 amp stack!
The story goes that Freddie went to Brian and said something along the lines of "How the fuck am I expected to sing this!?" - then they went ahead and did it... in one take!
Bro I've heard you talk a few times about being easily bored and quick minded etc. and just wanted to say I am just to the same and that I have always found listening to Queen allows me to chill a bit because they just demand every moment of your attention and reward you greatly for it! Ironically they also serve as a great way to get pumped up, after all causing adrenaline rushes and feelings of being ten feet tall are just a part of what Queen are all about!
The reason so many people haven't heard this masterpiece is that it was on the same album as Bohemian Rhapsody. In my opinion, this is at the least an equal and to my tastes ... better. One of the greatest songs ever written. The lyrics are biblically brilliant and soooo prophetic in these days.
Don't forget this is created in a time there was no computer, no digitale recording, just magnetic tapes..... there are even moments they played the tape reverse to record the sound.
BTW, commented in detail below, but I also wanted to note the importance of HEADPHONES -- on this, Bo-Rap -well, basically EVERYTHING by Queen - now, I've seen reactions where people LOVED the song... but didn't even listen with headphones -- so, yeah - pure musical talent will out - yet... I feel bad for what some of them are missing... you got it enough that you "tripped" - that is Brian's brilliance... (well and Fred et al on vocals...) -- THANK YOU!
I cannot second this strongly enough! Since the first second you listen to Queen chronologically, you get stereo mastery and I know that back when I was 9 and started hearing Queen on my personal stereo, my mind was blown!
@@grandtheftmanualv945 Grand thanks - sounds like you go back as far as I -- so fun to hear others hearing.. but at the same time..my sisters used to call me "miss correct-all" -- for language, etc... and it's hard to let it go when you just KNOW someone is "hearing it wrong... or without headphones.. or not the best version" - I'm 60 now, so gotta let that judgment sh*t go, right? lol
Great reactions you do David keep up the great work. Please react to March of the Black Queen and Ogre Battle two songs from the second album i'm sure you'll like. I don't mind the stopping and reviewing I like the way you go deep with your reviews.
Think this is trippy ? Try them doing this live in Earls Court 1977 or Houston the same year, the one from Houston is 2 songs White Man and Prophets Song together - this is where he goes crazy with his voice and effects
Yeah, I enjoy watching your pleasure in this music. I am pretty sure the vocal section is meant to imitate the sound of the great flood. Flood and storm, flood and storm... surging and raging then eventually ending in quiet as the waters recede and a new world begins. If it is not the intended meaning, it certainly fits the apocalyptic nature of such an event.
Oh - so sorry to be a "nagging" commenter -- but the very, very end of this song on the album goes straight into "Love of my Life"-- on their early albums, and I'm talkin' vinyl -- there was NO pause between songs... unusual at the time... now that everything is digital, doesn't matter, but back then, it was unique -- (oh, and on the album version of Love of my Life, in addition to guitar and vocals, Brian May played cello -- and HARP --whaaa....??? yep, super-genius!)
I wish there had been more thought put into this when the digital revolution happened, and I mean CDs back in the eighties, because all the songs were separated and for me it ruined Queen II. I spent a lot of time and money finding a CD player that would allow no gap between tracks!. It affects Pink Floyd albums too, as well as other prog bands.
There are a lot of live versions of this song, some better than others where in the middle part it is just Freddy and the delay where he harmonizes with himself . Before 1977 it is just him and and the delay and after 1977 it is a delay and harmonizer with 9 overdubs which if even more trippy . Freddie's self harmonies are brilliant on some versions , some nights he sounded a bit tired
You are musical genius' critic . I appreciate all of your views, especially with Queen as they are my most favorite. I am glad you are finally getting into them,as they are multy level. Must b e studied from their beginning throughout their growth. Their evolution was epic
Brian May is a wizardd!! I agree with you - it has something ballad - Irish?? I am from Denmark and have danced to tunes in that rhythm a- folkdance in a circle with stamping feet?? I also was intrigued by the harmonies - I sing in a choir - always has - and we made a lot of harmonies - of all sorts - always a cappella - the most exciting with 8 different voices - and the most difficult - but never with rhythm like this. I liked your reaction,
Please react to Brighton Rock lyric version for some fierce guitar by Dr Brian May. Then check out a live performance...he extends the solo out by 10 minutes.
From this Epic track to the gorgeous ballad “Love Of My Life” to Brian May’s jaunty “Good Company” in which he, John, and Roger recreate a Dixieland jazz band, and THEN “Bohemian Rhapsody” and closing with “God Save The Queen”?!? This was a smorgasbord of diversity on a par with Sgt. Pepper, just brilliant work. As terrific as Queen’s live performances were, ALWAYS listen to the studio originals first, and THEN listen to the live versions. 😉
One of my favourites, try the short track from the day at the Races "Millionaires Waltz" or thrash metal track "stone cold crazy" from sheer heart attack
If you think about it Brian May wrote nothing but bangers HE IS A GUITAR HERO,SONG WRITTING LEGEND!!!!!! 👑♾️❣️💓🔥🔥😘🥰💖💋💋💋😊🙃🌻🌹🌼🌅🌞🌞 So Good Someone should slap us all 💛💛💛💛👑👑👑👑🌹🌹🌹🌹🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃💋
The big chord at the end of each section is different. Most bands can't even sing one complex chord, let alone half a dozen different ones in the same song.
That is what you get when you have a mathematician and astrophysicist with IQ of 180 in a band 😮 Brian's masterpiece and Freddie's amazing interpretation. ❤It's really Brian's BohRhap but sadly far less known song because it was never released as a single and just parts of it were played live because of it's complexity (sound delays) ... Not to mention the lyrics 😮 ...
Can you please stop popping that rap guy up in the middle of a good song 🤔 no need for it , spoils it. But , great you've gone down the rabbit hole of Queen 🥰😍
