Yes, we can learn so much from old people. This lady had a marvelous memory even at one hundred years old She was fascinating telling us stories about jack the ripper first hand as she was alive when it all happened. She told us that people were very scared at the time of it going on.

It is interesting how things have changed. I visited the UK back in 1999 and then about 6 months later in the Millennium year of 2000. Accidentally I was pointed to and I got on the wrong train line in the Victoria station. That particular incorrect train line, took me out to whitechapel. And I got to be honest with you the Whitechapel that I saw in 1999 and in the year 2000 did not look anything like what I'm seeing today on your video. So I guess they really have come up in the world as we say here in America.

@@RileEren I still remember Whitechapel being a little bit 'rough' back then as it is now. I hear it's even worse now. However, the biggest difference between then versus now is that there weren't a lot of businesses closed and shunted like, there is now today. Another thing that I don't necessarily remember seeing is that there weren't as, many people who 'bottomed out' in life and in society and who are now basically living off the streets. Didn't see very much of that when I visited back in 1999 and 2000. I mean yes you saw a few here and there but it was not as bad as it is today. Would you agree with me or are you seeing things a little bit differently? I'm curious to know your opinion.

​@zakjuly6721 It's extremely plausible that he was an officer. The killer/rapist from the early 70's in California was an officer as well. I believe he was called the night stalker.

Charles Lechmere (the man who "found" the body of the first official victim) is the most likely of the known suspects.

It's likely the killer was a nobody, as most serial killers are.

My family had a bomb shelter in the garden, and every time they would hear the siren at night, they had to get out of bed and go into the garden. In the end my great grandad refused and just said ‘if they’re gonna get me, I’ll die comfortable in bed’. Thankfully they were spared.

You are definitely right about that and as a matter of fact another famous structure that was destroyed during the Blitz, over in France the infamous apartment room that was once rented by Vincent van Gogh, was destroyed during the blitz.

The same thing happened in Germany, too. Whole cities were annihilated. It's sad that countries ever go to war.

That school building and the surrounding area was derelict until at least the early 90's.

If you put in jack the ripper/James Mason there's a short where James walks into the back yard of where Annie chapman the second of the canonical five was murdered on Hanbury street. The back yard is exactly the same as in 1888 and this video was done in the 1960s it's pretty awesome as it's not a photo but an actual video.

Thanks for giving us pictures of the victims too. I've never seen that in any other documentaty

@@GinaDAuria Unfortunately those pictures have been doing the rounds on youtube but they are all fake. The only photo that is genuine is one of Annie chapman with her husband john chapman years before she fell into hard times. The only other photos of victims are post mortem. I'm certain of this from watching several experts on the crimes and reading several books on it. I promise you none of these photos are real.

I have a friend who leads the tours for one company and I believe some more of the original buildings were there in 2007 than now.

Its much better at night. I have done the night tour twice. One time it was a person who wrote a book about the Ripper. Former police who at that time was able to see some of the evidence which at least at that time was not on display anywhere. It was a huge group. He doesnt do the walk anymore. As an American, I imagine this being the equivalent to our "Zodiac Killer".... But with more English style folklore. The Zodiac used a gun and a knife, but went nowhere to the extremes of a Jack the Ripper.

Fun fact: In London she was called "Long Liz" because she was, as a woman, 165 cm tall. Male average was about 168 cm. People were incredibly short back then. Today a woman at 165 cm is barely average, in countries like Sweden certainly less than that.

Hi Angie. Im 100% sure there's only one photo of the Polly as a corpse? Even though other photo's are occasionally used. There's only one original photo of Charles Lechmere/Cross the man who was seen standing with your ancestor Polly. Charles is also my direct ancestor.

I beleive they lost a lot of the orginal Ripper sites during the Blitz. Many homes and areas in London where distroyed during the war.

@@realong2506 Redevelopment of London has done the most damage. There were lots of areas still around from the Ripper era. I remember the cobbled Streets and buildings around Mitre Square etc. I didn’t take any pictures years ago sadly, but they are well documented.

@@camrondirossi3249 London is a working City. A lot of History has gone because of so called progress. The skyline of old London has just become tower blocks and the past erased.

@@GilbertSyndrome yeah, I believe some of them had children and abusive husbands and their kids got taken off them and the man got the kids and kicked the woman to the curb. Also I believe one of them was Scandinavian and subjected to STD testing the police did at the time. Absolutely humiliating.
