Jack vs the Ninja | Samurai Jack | Adult Swim 

The irony I see in this show is that up until Season 5, Jack has a rule against killing actual people. Yet he was trained in what could probably be the hardest form of assassination possible.

This is probably one of the greatest episodes from the original series.

If you think about it, the concept of a ninja who can “use the light” (kill you in broad daylight) is pretty scary.

When you're a stealth player and you encounter an enemy player with the same set of skills that you have.

This is, stylistically, one of the best and most interesting fights ever put to animation.

Have to say Jack training in ninjutsu had to be hella hard. Anyone can hid in the dark, you know how hard it must be to flipping hide in plain daylight?

As cool as this fight, storyboard, and animation are, the entire concept of a practitioner of ninjitsu being invisible in broad daylight is extremely terrifying. Anyone can hide in the shadows, but invisible in the light? Truly scary

have to mention, jack was on a time limit during this fight, if it had turned night there is a chance he would've lost

Nobody is even talking about how absolutely amazing the music here is. It adds so much to the atmosphere.

The show was 50 years ahead of his time

This art style came back in the new season during his fight with the daughter's of Aku cult assassins. Loved the sense of dread the music gave as the sun began setting! (Still upset that Princess Mira never came back during the ending battle...)

When Jack starts untying his robe, you all know someone is about to get their ass beat.

This is one of the most intense and nerve wrecking fight in the series the music the idea is just amazing

Still stands as one of the best fights of all time. A brilliant use of a concept where you have both sides using their element conceal and strike while the sun setting puts an urgency on Jack to end the fight before it’s too late.

This is why Genndy Tartakovsky is one of my favorite people.It's just such a simple thing, using black and white, and the sound reduced simply to the clash of swords, while an unsettling music plays and sets the atmosphere. It's so minimalist it's almost abstract in a way, but at the same time creates this tense atmosphere that just draws you in. Goddamn, I need Samurai Jack in my DVD collection.

One of many, many episodes from classic Jack that show that modern cartoons just don't compete with the late 90s/early 00s boom.

This is one of those moments where Jack stood out and set the bar compared to every other animated series in it's day.

This fight was.further proof how Jack truly was the ultimate warrior.

When you're so white that you can hide just by standing still in sunlight

This was one of Jack’s best fights in my opinion.

This one scene is what inspired me to hide things in plain sight when I make something intricate. It is also why I enjoy art in any form. Hell of an impression as a kid, a welcome reminder now.

The entire Samurai Jack series is amazing, but this scene in particular has to be one of the greatest animated battle scenes I can probably think of

This is so good. Hiding in the dark is easy while hiding in light is legendary, but the longer the fight goes the the harder for Jack to hide as daylight is fading giving the shinobi the greater advantage.

I'm sorry, but what ninjas are we talking about? I didn't see anyone.

Honestly being able to blend in with the light must take so much more skill than the dark, which just made me respect Jack more.

This could potentially be a slow but tense boss fight in the 2020 Samurai Jack game.

This has got to be one of my absolute favorite fights in the series. They're all well done but this took an abstract level of understanding to choreograph.

This might sound weird, but I liked how Jack is often in his undies. Let me rephrase that: I like how Jack is not embarrassed by being almost naked. He is so focused, well trained and smart that he never hesitates to use his clothing or remove it when necessary

This is, by far, my favorite episode of Samurai Jack, mainly because of the Art Direction. It was mostly a conceptual episode, but it brought to mind the visual ideal of Yin-Yang, and the execution was incredibly exciting.

It's sequences like this that make Samurai Jack one of the best TV shows ever.

This show has such a striking visual style that the sound design is so easy to overlook. The music, ambiance and sound effects are perfect. I could listen to the entire series and not miss the visuals at all but oh what I'd miss! Take a look at the contrast between the straight architecture and the flowing, closing darkness at 3:00.

Love these episodes where Jack has to fight like his opponents since the styles of them look great. Big example was the Archers

Could be considered a children's show for the first 4 seasons, but it was a wonderful show that did not talk down to children and was able to introduce very complex concepts well.

Remember folks: in the original japan, a samurai had to learn how to wield the sword, the bushido, the required etiquettes, and horse riding in battle. A ninja had to learn hypnosis, animal taming, the usage of every weapon, creativity, battle strategy, climbing up anywhere, hiding on land, in water, how to be silent, chemistry, potion making, explosives, AND EVERYTHING WHAT A SAMURAI HAS TO KNOW. And so much more. So, yeah. Jack knowing how to defeat a ninja in his own way is damn terrifying just because of the training what he had to go through.

Everyone rightly talks about how good at stealth Jack is but no one mentions how good at sword fighting the ninja is it was able to hold jack back multiple times to get away from him

This scene deserves so much praise, just for the concept itself. Yes, the technicalities are the finer things one can critic, but this is just great; doing a scene with just Black & White.

Samurai jack was and still is one of the the best cartoons using minimalistic art style as its charm

I have to hand it to the animators this was way ahead of its time.

Contrary to popular belief, I think Jack is doing more than just reflecting sunlight off of him to hide from the shinobi. Our eyes adapt in response to the amount of light we perceive to help us see; they contract when there's a lot of light around us and dilate when there's little. This trait has its drawbacks though. If we're in a lit environment, dark creatures and objects cast in the dark will be very hard to see. By contrast, bright objects and creatures are harder to see if they're cast in light and we're in the dark. In other words, the relative contrast between Jack's bright clothing and the shinobi's dark clothing plus the way our eyes work is what makes this kind of battle possible.

I love the fact that Samurai Jack disappeared in the light and instead of winning he went right after the ninjas sword 😂

If this was an original concept and not something inspired by another body of work… then this is truly legendary and makes this series that much more of a gem 💎
