Two small details I really like about this episode: 1) Even though Jackie does the responsible thing by trying to keep Jade out of danger however possible, the security card swipe scene (as well as Jade climbing the totem pole earlier) shows that he will trust her and her skills when the chips are down. 2) Unlike Jackie, Captain Black's Yin is not a total pushover and even his Yang is cooperative once the mask has been removed, showing that he actually has better control over his nerves and vices.
It could also be because the mask is enhancing captain black darker tendencies that his yin is more similar to his normal personality since the tiger talisman is all about spiritual balance. It gave us a yin that can match the enhanced yang version of captain black. It just something to consider with how two different magical artifacts interact. The talisman only split captain black instead of splitting the mask into a yin version and a yang version alongside him. Perhaps working with jade intent of only affecting the entity known as captain black. Given that later it’s revealed each mask is an actual demon general. . I do like your input with how much more mental fortitude captain black has given how he leads an entire secret organization meant to handle international crime.
Another thing of note is compared to other mask removals where both mask and host don’t want the mask removed, when Captain Black removed the mask from his dark half it came off instantly with no struggle. This could indicate that even Captain Black’s Yin side didn’t want the mask on which is why it came off so easily.
You know Captain black should really be more of an official member of the J team, Even though he doesn't appear in many episodes he does have a lot of resources
This episode has to be one of the few times the tiger talisman was useful. Also, 4:04-4:07 you can tell at this point in the season, Hak Foo was very desperate to wear an oni mask.
Of course, the Tiger Talisman splitting people into two wasn't its original effect (for Shendu, it was supposed to help him better maintain the other talisman powers). It did also help against Spring-Heel Jack and Jade even came up with a third usage against the Sky Demon to find the missing half of an object.
Three moments that make this episode one of my favorites in the entire series. 1. Uncle's comment about Captain Black's inherent good chi delaying the mask's corruption may seem like a throw away line, but it actually proves how honorable and virtuous Captain Black is at his core, which makes me respect him way more. 2. Possessed Black talking about how the Mask "tells him who to punish" is ten different levels of creepy and the perfect "OH NO!" moment to make everybody realize he's 100 percent possessed. 3. Hak Foo trying to punch the Sumo Khan only to hurt himself and then get taken out in one shot, always makes me laugh.
Always wanted to see more of Captain Black in the series so it’s nice to have this episode focused on him. Also, I love how this show incorporates things from previous seasons. Always loved when they used the talismans to help them out.
@jayancill7154 I think it was because his dark half was being amplified by the Oni Mask, so in this case, his good half was similar to his regular personality.
Great episode. I love that they didn't just forget about the Talismans of Shendu but kept pulling them out when they needed to add a little something to an episode, but also not in every episode. I also dig the idea that Captain Black is enough of a good guy that his own personality was enough to keep the darkness at bay for a while. I get too that once they Shadow Khan come out the darkness starts to overpower. I think it's also fun to imagine what if Shendu's siblings also got these masks and channeled their power just like he did in that story when he rewrote history. I figured these guys would be attached to Po Kong, the Mountain Demon.
I would add Viper to that list as well. Possibly her getting the yellow mask instead of Scruffy the Dog. Here's an interesting one. Tohru's Mother. She never found out that Tohru used to be a criminal. I always wanted her to have one more appearance so Tohru could finally confess and make her realize that Uncle is a good influence on him.
I loved this season! Thanks for posting these! I do wish that we could have received an episode where The Enforcers were all together with masks and Shadowkhan Tribes, leaving Hak Foo without one angry and jealous. Would have been a cool episode for Finn, Chow and Ratso to shine with their new power! Similar to when they had all the talismans together in Season 2!
Wait, so the Tiger Talisman can affect the person but not the Oni Mask due to the Oni Mask giving out dark chi? Is that why Augustus's Yin counterpart hardly looks different from his normal counterpart? That explains why Jackie's Yin counterpart is wimpy, but Augustus isn’t because the Tiger Talisman favors his Yin counterpart more due to the influence of the Oni Mask enhancing his Yang counterpart.
Is There Anyone With Strong Enough Good Chi Can Wear Mask? Sumo Shadow Khan Are The Tank Rank. I Wonder 💭 If There Ever A Female Shadow Khan? They’d Be Amazon Warriors Like.
So in a way showing this to us kids was incepting the idea of black magic, and dark side if you will.. so then we get judged on how we grow up and what our beliefs are... Isn't that crazy 🎉🎉🎉
I wish the Episode after this was Finn, Chow and Ratso with the mask and seeking the Blue one for Hak Foo, who out of jealousy and anger, is desperate for one. The episode could continue with the rat talisman to bring him to life, and maybe is desperate to be worn by Hak Foo? The Enforcers fail and loose all four masks really p''ng of Tarakudo
