NEW YORK, June 11, 2013 - Jackie Chan talks to Asia Society Film Curator La Frances Hui about the differences between American and Chinese cinema and lessons learned as an actor, director and producer.
Jackie was always the best ! I respect him for many reasons and the first is his character ! A smiling face , a lovely person that does all the incredibly dangerous stunts look like a walk to the park till you try to do it yourself ! The man rolled his body over a turning saw blade with his belly ! he was so fast he could climb over a wall by simply using velocity and muscles on his feet and legs to defy gravity in three moves ! I really Admire all of Martial art experts , all of them did something good in their category but Jackie was simply the best ! Even Bruce Lee would admire Jackie as much i do if he was alive now !
before parkour was created,i think Jackie Chan was the early person who started it..run and jump from top of the bus and ramp the sign board, jump from top of the building to the other balcony,it was so great..
Azizan Jaffar go figure ...as a child with his parents in a circus , as an adult ,martial arts and dangerous stunts ! The guy had no limits . He even almost got killed for a scene and he continued making the jump till is perfect .
CommanderCorner Money yes but more about brand name power which even money can't buy but must be created with long term loyal fans like Apple and Disney fans. Spending unlimited amounts of money won't amount to much without the right brand name behind it. Chinese companies don't have the clout if the Disney name at least not yet.
nunya bidness No, he's not. He's not talking about racism, but influence. The reason American film has such a reach has nothing to do with racism, but money and power. Not everything is about race, dude. He didn't say "America didn't notice when we made Mulan" he said NO ONE noticed. It's not because every country is racist against China. That's the dumbest thing ever. It's because they don't have the worldwide influence of Disney.
80schampion How do you think brand name power is created? Money. Disney had enough money to make some films that enough people wanted to see, which increased profits, which gave them more money to make more movies, etc. Then they made really smart investments, like Pixar, Marvel, and now Lucasfilm, and boom. They're huge. That's money.
That's the difference with jackie chan & other martial artist, all jackie chan's stunts were real & he even said he's broke bones before while shooting film. jackie chan was the real deal 💯
patrick Edmknd LET HIM LIVE DAMMIT HE IS GETTING OLD THERE IS LIMIT IN TIME jk yeah he is getting old but he still he kinda of a big deal actually never mind was about to say he was a big deal to make awesome scenes but nobody can perfect what he has done in this time.
It doesn't really matter if he has used stunt doubles, it makes sense. He's 60 now and the amount of movies and injuries he has gotten is extreme. However, if it is a stunt he is able to perform himself, he usually did it. There is no reason to "loose your respect for him" he has taken falls from 3 story-buildings, hanged form a helicopter, and broken pretty much every bone he has. If you want Jackie to take a backflip, he can do it. If you want him to take a double backflip, you might need someone who's better at just that. I read an interview where he said something like that in 2001. Although Jackie Chan hasn't done literally every single stunt himself, he have done the one's that he can do and deserve nothing but respect and admiration. In many of his films he's also directing. And you have to remember he has done stunt for other people too.
Emmelig Hemmeligg True, true. Like you said, if he can do it, he will! It's only be on a few rare occasion, mostly backed by his injuries (Thunderbolt for example) where a double was needed.
No matter what and if or how. He’s been there done that perfected it and did it all over again and again. There’s no denying it this dude is the king of all KINGs. I love u i respect u, I thank you for all u have done just for our lowly loves as entertainment. Seriously I love u with all respect
La Fein not to mention that he as a teenager with his parents were acrobats in a circus . and I discovered not long ago he is also a famous singer in China ! what can I say for this astonishing man ! he is just incredible !
Yeah but not a stunt man, Jackie is the real deal he do his own stunts he studied martial arts and stuff, Kevin hart is just a clown with a talent but nothing compared to jackie. Jackie can kick his ass in real life fight lol
Mr Chan has done great movies. For someone to downsize his impact in the martial arts community or the movie making industry for using stunt doubles is insane. Mr Chan is an individual who will stand in history as one of the best martial artist involved in movie making as well as seen world wide because of it. If you have something to say against an individual of his caliber, display your credentials to justify your stand.
The scene in Drunken Master where dozens of people attack Jackie and the old man in the restaurant is the most amazing piece of martial arts action I have ever seen in ANY film.
IF ANY INDIAN DIRECTOR OR PRODUCER WATCHING..PLZ LEARN FROM HIM SOMETHING ..JACKIE CHAN DOESNT USES TOO MUCH TECHNOLOGY..BUT HE HAS GOT SKILLS..AND THE WORLD APPRECIATES IT..WE PRODUCE MOVIES IN MORE QUANTITY BUT LESS IN QUALITY .THATS WHY WE ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO CHINESE FILMS INDUSTRY
1:49 thats what Bruce Lee did way back with Enter the Dragon, and was killed for it; at the same time opened doors for such people like Jackie Chan, Jet Li etc .... Amazing though to see, that this is still relevant today and that Chinese cinema still isnt as recognized as hollywood, although a lot of hollywood productions wouldnt exist without Chinese culture ...
+xabun +ODDBALL SOK | gig kotte is right about Bruce Lee's death. It was technically drug use but not in the bad way. Also, "Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?"
He is real inspiration of our Martial art class. After seeing his picture in group we used to get new energy and motivation . It give real joy of fighting practice. Great days, Thanks Jackie Chain my Guru, who taught me to be jolly, friendly with fighting spirit.
Jackie Chan is an Amazing man. Much Respect and Honor. He deserves to be remembered as an all time great. The things he does for people all across the world, not many know how awesome this man is. Respect to you Sir!!
correction : DID the real thing. one of the saddest things I ve ever watched was Jackie progressively use more and more of the fake techniques - as he correctly calls them - from mid 90s onwards. Gracefully retiring while you re still good at what you do is a forgotten virtue.
in the usa we eat cows chicken and in other countries they eat other animals. what is your pt, do u worship dogs? when it comes down to survival u will eat your beloved dog lolz if not it will eat u lolz
Have you looked at what they say in the comments? All of a sudden, it's alright to cook our children because SOME Chinese decided to eat dogs. Your stereotypes and generalization is much more frightening than whatever propaganda story you're trying to tell. You call us a cruel nation, but the venom that's spilling out of your mouths/words are inhumane to say the least.
I don't know why this is recommended to me, but I don't actually care. I loved this. I love Jackies accent when he speaks English. such a unique and iconic voice.
