This woman is more than just a great singer or songwriter, she's a heroine! She voluntarily dropped into foxholes during the Vietnam war to greet the troops - and did this a number of times. Mamma mia - why has she not yet been awarded the American Medal of Freedom (highest civilian medal)? Hopefully soon!

@@cbranalli What a jumbled up Shakespearean quote. Actually, I like Jackie DeShannon's songs and think she is pretty and interesting looking. What I protest, and it harks back to the early ''70s, is that calling a woman a "doll", is an attempt to relegate her to a thing, rather than a human being. The purpose of doing this is, it makes the man who says it, feel empowered over that woman in particular and women,in general.

William Lucas - Hey Bill, I promise I’m not picking a comment battle here, but that interview footage of Jackie DeShannon does not have a 1970’s vibe at all. Her clothes, and the image and audio are absolutely not from the 70s or even the 80s...Definitely more recent here (its hard for us old guys to remember) the year 2000 was 20 years ago & she would have been 58 then. No, this interview is much, much newer than the 70s! In fact it was probably close to the movie it’s an outtake from. The Wrecking Crew came out in 2008. Stay Healthy.

The talent and expertise of the wrecking crew will likely never be dublicated. The heyday of the studio musicians is gone.sadly. It sure is fun hearing about those days.Tommy must have been a hoot to do those dates with. His sense of humor combined with his incredible musical ability . Tommy Tedesco was the gold standard of the studio. I used to be Number one. I did all the work here in L.A. In the 50s I was someone. In the 60s I was like a king. The70s rolled around my name don't mean a thing." Words to Tommy's song" Requiem For A Studio guitar Player"

Sadly? Why sadly? These were fantastic musicians, but in the 70's, as bands were allowed to start playing their instruments in recordings, a whole new spectrum of sounds and textures arose. Do you really want the same 30 musicians recording everything? Of course, now, "musicianship" consists of stealing somebody's else's work and calling it sampling.

"The song comes first" is what I tell my fellow musicians as we are recording my music. Egos take a back seat and if you can't accept that then you won't be on very many of our recordings. When I look at the 'pool' and see how many great ideas end up unused because of that credo and it has helped us in a lot of ways. Also, allowing the producer to have the overall concept of what the song should end up like is another hard lesson for a control freak songwriter like myself to abide but I chose my son to produce this record and I wanted HIS interpretation of my music to come forth because the truth is I already know what I sound like, and what a Jim DiBattista mix is going to be like and frankly, I get sick of the guy LOL and I want to hear someone else's ideas sometimes. I'm glad I found your page Denny, I loved The Wrecking Crew movie that you made and I am grateful to Little Steven's Underground Garage for turning me on to you and to so many amazing songs that they made.

The Searchers version of this song is what I remember. Something about the slightly off-kelter harmonies of those original British invasion bands......look what it did for the Beatles, the masters of slightly off harmony. Music for some time now has been de-evolving. Across all genres too. The Katy Perry's and Taylor Swifts have taken their toll along with others. Country music doesn't exist anymore except for a handful of artists and the records of past legends. You can't even watch Austin City Limits anymore except for the extremely rare appearance of a real star. Music today doesn't resolve itself. No thought to chord progressions. Singers are a joke. Yeah I know I am old school. Personally I believe it's the socialist movement behind trying to drive us all crazy!

J Foster - my thoughts exactly, thank you.. It will always, always, always, be the best if at the least, the "musicians" can, and have for awhile, "read" and "write" a musical score.. If they have no idea how to do that, how can they ever really "know" how much music is available out there? If they have never taken a music appreciation class in school, college, etc., how can they have a really deep, strong, base on what music is in the first place??? Have they ever listened to the Masters of the 14th-17th Centuries ? Looked at how they wrote these incredible music notations on paper?? And then because they can read it, they can "hear" it and play it on the piano, etc., ? And then there are all these genius Jazz musicians, that really amped it up and still do today.. And yes, the good ones, all read and write music.. I know, there are a few out there that do none of this, but that is probably the exception still today.. It is also the same with Singing.. Used to be, you maybe could carry a tune just fine, you liked to sing.. Then you were in the Church Choir, school choirs, etc.. You learned to read music, you learned how to "sing" from your base, breathing, you learned what "vibrato" is and then learned how to "use" it at just the right time, the right speed, and when to not use it.. Even something like vibrato used properly with "feeling" at the right time, does wonder for a song alone.. Or it can make one crazy to have to bear with it when for example, Stevie Nicks is doing it so badly.. All we can hope for today is that perhaps in some millenium, music will come back full circle and it will all be great again !!! Of course, all the angelic choirs in Heaven, perhaps singing in 16+ part harmonies, etc., will always be the benchmark from whence we start.. :) Best to you and yours !
