Scotland's Makar, Jackie Kay, has a proud history of writing poetry about believable characters; ordinary people like herself. Her poems are genuine, open and often deeply personal. Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has long been an admirer of Kay's work, as well as an advocate of the importance of reading. In this event, filmed live at the 2016 Edinburgh International Book Festival, they discuss the poems Kay is producing in her role as Makar, and Sturgeon's Reading Challenge.

Fantastic interview! I am reading Jackie Kay's 'Red Dust Road' memoir as part of my Second Year at Bristol Uni. Fascinating story and so relatable.

Wish there were subtitles on this, Jackie so I could hear what you say. Some lovely pictures. Love the one of you and Denise and the one with your parents. Came across this by accident.

This is a turning point for Britain it won't be called the United Kingdom anymore as Scotland will soon be Independent, N Ireland will soon join Ireland so Wales and England will have to be called rUK (rest of the UK) or little Britain.
