After the 1:10 mark, I was just thinking of how he descends from the word "me" in a very Stevie Wonder-ish ad lib style..You know how Stevie likes to do these spontanious melodic detours when playing live...The bass line in this song is also very cool.
Those brothers put in a lot of hard work. Every song has a dance routine and Jermaine and Tito performing background vocals, dancing, and playing their instruments perfectly. I have the utmost respect for those brothers because that's just pure talent.
@@denisebrown9564 So, no interest in finding out what BIBLE (KJV) is about? A movie fan? yet having no interest why more and more darker movies are made? A music fan? yet never investigated whom you truly listen to? All singers, all actors and all politics are FTMs and MTFs.
He's literally like 13-14, because of brilliance we almost normalise how maddeningly good was so young, he'd been performing for 5 plus years at his like wtf he was amazing. You couldn't even imagine a 11 year old getting to number 1 lool, only Michael.
I hate it when someone compares a new artist to Michael, like Bruno Mars, people say "Oh, he's the new Michael Jackson." Yo, shut the hell up, nobody and I mean NOBODY is or ever will be as good as Michael.
I didn't know much about Michael Jackson until he died because I'm young, but getting to learn who he was and his music was just great. His voice was phenomenal. If he didn't feel loved while he was alive he sure would have felt it after he died. RIP to a legend
I don't think there will every be a generation that won't know him, but what's sad is, they won't know THIS Michael Jackson. Michael was almost 11 years-old when I was born. There has NEVER been a time in my life when I wasn't his fan. I think I heard him in the womb and came out Mike-ma-tized. I thank God I knew him, but even still, with me being 11 years young than him, I STILL missed some great times. Well, maybe I didn't miss them; I just don't remember them. OH, but I do remember when I was 5 years-old, my mother took me to the Houston Livestock and Rodeo at the Astrodome to see the Jackson 5 (because I begged her). I DO remember that!
Michael was 5 years older than me and a 7 years older than my brother. When MJ died, my brother called me up crying. MJ and the Jackson 5 were a HUGE part of our childhood. We used to beg our parents to let us stay up late and watch them on the late shows, then see their cartoons in the morning. We loved them so much! Even our young parents did. My mom named my third and youngest brother Ben because she was pregnant with him in 1972, when she used to listen to and sing the song Ben to her tummy. AWW! Not to mention them many years our dancing family danced to his songs in clubs, at weddings, etc. THANK You Michael and the Jackson 5. You were an inspiration, and such sweet young men. SO much talent! @@LYBism
Seriously... My fuckin' heart drops every time I hear the slayage that happened at 1:12. OH. MY. GAWD. That child was something amazing. Rest in Paradise, Michael. #6YearsToday
I can not believe that this solo came out in 1971 when I was only 5 years old. I watched Micheal Jackson grow up. I can not believe that he is no longer with us. I feel as though he should still be here with us when I see his childhood photos and performances.
DO YALL HEAR JERMAINE KILLING THAT BASS ?!!!! people forget that Jackson 5 is a multi-talented family group that just happen to have a dynamic larger than life lead singer....listen to those harmonies :)!
No doubt all of The Jackson Five had talent, but let's be honest, the other four put together were not a patch on Michael. They all built their careers on him.
Bill B Correction: they all built careers TOGETHER...some succeeded & some didn't..that's the nature of the biz sometimes so thank God that each Jackson member had importance in the unit..Jackson 5 wasn't in competition with each other...MJ & Jermaine were the main lead singers in the unit so their solo success was inevitable especially MJ's because he was thee ultimate lead.....but either way, it all starts with the Jackson 5...6 brothers who rehearsed, performed, lived, loved & worked together for damn near 20 years before "Thriller"
lawrence worrell Very well said. They ALL had talent. And here is the sad reality: Yes, Mike left a larger-than-life legacy, but he is gone; his brothers remain. Outsized fame has its price. What if they had achieved what Michael did as a solo artist? Would they still be around? Let's remember that with incredible fame comes that incredible monkey on your back. In any event, a phenomenally talented family. They ALL contributed to the legacy. Because of ALL of them we are sitting at our laptops, 40+ years later, enjoying them all over again on You Tube.
Everyone talks about "it gotta be hard for jermaine to sing and play bass". But what about tito? Tito was playing multiple fast chords and riffs while doing those dances. Tito doesn't get the praise he deserves for helping with making the music sound so beautiful along with Jermaine and Randy
PoloBoyPrince Yea, he sings. They sing (in order of ability from better to worse): Rebbie, Michael, Jermaine, Tito, Jackie, Randy, Janet. Marlon and La Toya are tied for worst. I list Tito before Jackie because Tito has more versatilty in that he can range from bass/baritone to upper register tenor, whereas Jackie's abilities are confined to the mid to upper registers. In reading between the lines on the Jackson show that feature his kids (3T), they indicate that he is shy and essentially "hides" behind the guitar. That may be why he has led only a couple of released songs until his recently released single, but you can hear his bass tones all over their background singing. Cant give u any info on dancing, lol.
It’s a shame there will never be a better singer entertainer ever again the music today sucks they can’t sing just listen to his voice without all the technology there is today
It is so easy to see how these kids ran away with the music of the era, and so many awards!! Momma Katherine sure knew her way around with a needle and had such an eye for the costumes these boys wore! Explains Michael's flair for style later in life! He was a professional showman right up to the end! We love you MORE, Michael!!
Yes also, it was REALLY RARE that they would let them do it live. In this era, they would almost always do it with playback. They would tell Michael and his brother where they would be, and how they would move... it's incredible to find real lives for shows like this. There is only a few. Michael was magic right ? They were all so good.
@@Jaburu It's live. Michael's voice was a lot stronger live than on playback during this era. They likely tuned down his vocals on record to match better with his brothers. Check out all the other live performances like the one for "going back to Indiana". You'll see just how overpowering his voice is when live.
God put his foot all in this one.... My god! He is singing this one live! 🥲 I’m just gonna repeat this one more time. He is singing this.one.live!!!! I am speechless! The range is out of this world! I miss his so much. it hurts.
Parched Pinemarten ... Ok: Each were 5- member pop music groups of the late-60's/early 70's, led by the youngest in the group. That's your comparison. Micheal was incomperable!
MichAel was a beautiful young man. And had a voice out this world somewhere In another universe. He was way ahead of his time . Talented ass hell! A pure genus god gift to the world.
It's not just his voice and the dancing, it's the SHOWMANSHIP!!! It's his hands, how he interprets the music, it's how you JUST SEE HIM. He was truly talented beyond his years. GENIUS!!
Is anybody paying attention to the choreography though!!!!!!!!! What!?? Omg NO ONE can dance like these brothas here! I cannot believe the amount of effort and detail in every dance move from start to finish! Look at them dancing in the background starting at the 3:00 min mark and throughout the rest of the video! How exceptional!!
Watch their live performances in the 60's and 70's. They always do things that blow the mind. Jackie and Randy don't receive enough credit for their footwork. Jackie was the best dancer in my opinion.
I have too many feelings and things to say about this song.... first thing, right from the jump at 0:13 Michael is letting you know you're in trouble and he's not playing around. He continues throughout the performance. This is one of the best songs I've ever heard. I could listen to the studio version all day, and this live rendition is simply electric. Every time I watch this, I try to picture how it might have felt to witness it live. Could you imagine watching this on TV as he's performing this in 70s? Or how about being in person at the show? He must have seemed alien, godlike or something else in the moment, cause this whole comment section still can't process it to this day! He was truly otherworldly. The only 🤴🏾of pop🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Sang Michael! He was such a cute little boy, I absolutely love him as a child we were the same age 😊 ABC was my first Jackson 5 song I was exposed to. In my elementary class the teacher played the song and we all got up and danced 😁
"Got to Be There", is the first song I heard and fell instantly in love with Michael. My favorite words were " and when she's with me she's home" I truly get it. I love you, Michael from the bottom of my heart!
Yes Michael was God's gift to us and he did what he was suppose to do with his money and fame. He is in the arms of God almighty himself; I think Michael's an angel.
This man was a real professional as a child. It’s like he knew without knowing . No doubt they all talented in some way. But mike was just the music itself . R.I.P
He was only 10 years old Born 58 and this was recorded in 72 look at the front page I can't stop watching this! He was giving great show at 10 years old WOW I love him I new he give great show's I'n the 80sand 90s but I'm blow away 🤫🤔🤗 away
"Got to be there, got to be there In the morning When she says hello to the world Got to be there, got to be there Bring her good times And show her that she's my girl Oh what a feeling there'll be The moment I know she loves me 'Cause when I look in her eyes I realize I need her sharing her world beside me So I've got to be there Got to be there in the morning And welcome her into my world And show her that she is my girl When she says, "Hello world!" I need her sharing the world beside me That's why I've got to be there Got to be there where love begins And that's everywhere she goes I've got to be there so she knows That when she's with me, she's home Got to be there Got to be there" ♪ ♫ ♬
This was arguably the peak of his adolescent voice, an absolute vocal monster. His voice changing must have been such a psychological blow to him, his 73-75 performances were all done in lower keys (there's a few of them in japan on here) and his adult vocals were beginning to mold into what the world would all come to know. But it wasn't as simple as Michael waking up with a lower voice and just singing his songs, he had to develop a new style and method for his performances and grind into the world class performer he was accustomed to being. Such a talented performer!
I love this version of "Got To Be There", b/c of the lilt Michael put in his voice when he said "my girl", "she goes" and "she knows". I wish he would have recorded the song for the album that way. And was little Randy funky or what? Little man had his own James Brown groove happening!
OMFG! I thought I was the only one who LOVED that. The way he seamlessly transitions from damn near belting to that very soft, gentle, "lilt" as you put it, within the same line (ex at 1:25 "AND THAT'S EVERY*softens*whereee she goessss")...it blows me away. It's he intuitive knew how to be dynamic and emotive singer by nature. It's incredible.
It's a subtle difference from the record, but oh so damn cool. That's what makes this clip so special and it shows what kind of a special singer he was at that age.
I just knew Michael was going to be my husband. On my 12th birthday, my brother and his girlfriend surprised me and took me with them to a Jackson 5 concert in the coliseum in Greensboro NC. . During one point in the show, Michael called all the young ladies in the floor audience (we had floor seats) to the bottom of the stage and started singing , Got To Be There. When he concluded the song, he tossed his towel to the crowd of girls and guess who caught it…Yep, me!!! I thought it was fate confirming that Michael was my soulmate. I cherished that towel for the rest of my teen-days. Wow, the 70s were the best ever!!
Do you know how hard it was for all them to perform to that magnitude and still carry them notes this here is true musicianship today's generation will never grasp what it took for these guys to become legends that they are rip MJ
