Put some hair on your head and leather in your pants. I originally thought this was a SL2H-MAH...I realized it's not after I shot the b-roll with lights on it. So yeah, if I mention mahogany, it's not! This is an alder body, maple neck Jackson Soloist SL2H. It absolutely shreds. It's built like a tank. It's got a floyd. It's got a weird neck. It killed in the 80's. Does it still rock? Let's take a look.

Really good demo and I liked the playing you did and the tones you were getting. The Soloist neck shape is my favorite neck shape. The slightly thicker overall thickness and slightly rounded shape that flattens out the higher up the neck just works for me like no other. It's like a C that morphs to a D shape quickly but smoothly. Again, really good video here.
@TheGuitarPit

Thanks Mr E. Soloists are really neat guitars. Next hard tail I see a deal on I'm going to buy. They're pretty hard to track down in good condition and for a fair price. That neck is definitely it's own thing.

I agree 100% on the FEEL of the Jackson USA SL2H. I always thought it had that “Solid” quality build feel.
@TheGuitarPit
@TheGuitarPit 5 лет назад
Not sure what it is...I was struggling to describe it in the review. A Jackson Dinky feels like a regular, nice guitar. But a soloist feels like a PRS or something. Rock solid.

When I got my soloist I also found the neck to be a bit of a surprise, very different from my DK2M (which is a damn near perfect neck in my opinion) and various Ibanez, Yamaha, strats etc. It definitely has some 'shoulders' on it which takes some getting used to. You're right about the overall feeling of a Soloist being substantial!
@TheGuitarPit
@TheGuitarPit 6 лет назад
Yeah, I just can't figure out WHY the Soloist feels different than a Dinky, or ESP for that matter. It's just sturdy as hell. Maybe it's the weight, maybe it's the hardware...but something about that thing...solid!

I have one and love it! It is my main guitar. That Floyd adds to the tone and tuning stability. Also agree that once it’s set up it’s rock solid. It has this tone that I can not find in any other guitar. Extremely happy with it. 🤘🏼

Heck yeah. These things are such tanks. They just feel indestructible in your hands. And that neck is super unique...I'm not aware of any other guitar that feels the same.

Very nice review on this guitar! I like the sound, and your playing style is great! I appreciate your support and look forward to seeing more of your excellent reviews in the near future. I've always purchased from Guitar Center and so far I haven't had any problems. I wish you a great week, and thank you for sharing your fantastic videos of expertise my friend!👍👍🙂

Thanks for swinging by George! Guitar Center's Used page can be a roll of the dice. They don't exactly pick through or list the exact specs, and you never know what mods have been done. Thankfully, they'll take anything back, no questions asked.

You are welcome my friend! I had to take back a 2017 Gibson LP Traditional lV Pro. The pods for coil splits and the neck pickup didn't seem right. They said they could fix it inhouse, but I asked them to order another one instead. No problem, they had the factory ship it to the store. Still in box, I unwrapped it and checked it out....no issues! They even lowered the price from $2,000.00 to $1,500.00 with hard case! Can't beat that deal at all!!! Never tried the Jackson, but it looks like a great guitar. I like my Strat too! It's been so long, 40 years, so I'm pretty much learning all over again. And, at 65, it isn't as easy as back in the days. 🙂

Ok so you dont like a floyd yet you bought a guitar that was chiselled out of the 80's hard rock/heavy metal scene with all the bells and whistles? I dont get it. You knew what you were getting I asume. And as far as the sustainability goes that's pretty much taken care of by the neck threw construction. Dont believe me compare the sustain to any bolt on and see for yourself.

I agree with you about the floyd...you better set aside a whole day you gotta set up yur guitar...BUT...once its dialed in, they are rock solid...been playing floyds since the '80's...you just get quicker and better at setting them up....great review as always my brother!!!!

Thanks Larry! Yeah it's not my thing but I totally get why people like them. Rock solid once you get them dialed in. But I swap guitars a lot and when I have something else ready to go right next to it, it prevents me from picking them up more often :)

Yeah, it's an interesting shape. I find it very comfortable, but I could imagine it might rub someone the wrong way if they weren't expecting it. I had only played a Dinky before this so I was caught off guard. Either way, USA Jacksons are crazy cool.

Good review. So, each GC store works as an independent pawnbroker. You can find killer deals there and the online reps have discount powers that the in-store employees don't have anymore. Jackson USA prices have gone up quite a bit as of late. You would be lucky to find a Charvel model 6 now for under $1000. I would get a fresh fret dressing and intonation with any guitar. You should try a Soloist with a Kahler and a string-thru fixed bridge. You might like those better. My best sounding soloist is a USA SL2 maple carved top with a mahogany neck and body with a fixed bridge string-thru. It's actually lighter weight than the maple versions. Cheers

The Adrian Smith model is so clean, love the look of that thing. Unless you want something super specific, I feel like used is the way to go. They might need a little setup and TLC, but they're half the price...or less. Usually a couple of decent ones for sale in the $1300 range.

Thanks Mike. Yeah, I couldn't believe when I saw $949 on the price tag for the first one I purchased. Turns out they factored in all the wear into that price. The frets were worn all the way down too. Would have been about $500 to get that thing back into working shape. Second time is the charm!

'Something crazy like 2300 dollars for a new one"....? That's cheap for a US made Jackson hi-end guitar. Also would've been interesting to hear the Burstbucker Pros, those are some pretty pricey pickups
@TheGuitarPit
@TheGuitarPit 4 года назад
Yeah, I think I was wrong too. Even the base models seem to be more like $2800, and anything beyond a regular paint job seems to get into the $4k+ zone pretty quick. Big money! The burstbuckers were pretty weird in here. Muddy and dull. Didn't sound like a les paul at all.

Why did you buy a guitar with a Jackson then? That's like me buying a Gibson and I hate Gibson's. If I owned one it would sit in the corner and collect dust. Did you by it just to say I have a Soloist? Makes no sense. Couldn't taken that $1100 and gotten something you really liked. JMO

Do you mean a Floyd? It's really hard to find a soloist without a floyd for $1100, and I wanted to try a soloist. Was well worth trying out, and I enjoyed making the video on it. Very cool guitar and I was able to quickly sell it for what I paid for it.

Deep in a search right now to find a used one under $1400. Would you say this is one of the fast feeling guitars you have ever played? What has beaten it in that respect in the sub 2k price range?
@TheGuitarPit
@TheGuitarPit 4 года назад
Yeah, certainly, although it depends on what kind of features you're looking for. Kiesel JB200 is a very close contender. An Aristides 060 is certainly on par as well, but it feels much different in the hand. You may also want to consider ESP or Caparison.

yo man, again, to me you have very poor skills, but I enjoyed to review. It is an honest one. The neck has a compound radius, 12 to 16 inches. The most comfortable neck radius ever to me. The way you play of course doesn't require any tremolo system like the FL. Which I agree, might be annoying when it comes to re-tuning or setting the action. But hey, when you find the right setup, that's it. It's killer machine. And a lot of fun (if you know how to use it :)) My SL1 has been with me since 12 years now, I wont change it with anything else. Best guitar ever in my opinion. Peace bro. Keep reviewing stuff.

what is your point of commenting on his skills? Completely random and added absolutely nothing to the video or discussion. I suspect a little butt hurt because he wasn't glowing over a guitar that you probably love?

@allstopblue5717 5 лет назад
Wow you’re not exaggerating, the close up shot those frets look enormously wide! Interesting. I’m with some of the other commenters though, if it’s got a Floyd it’s not even in consideration for me lol. Don’t have the patience for it.
@TheGuitarPit
@TheGuitarPit 5 лет назад
Yeah super wide and weird haha. No idea whats up with that. Kinda fun to play on though. But yeah my floyd days are over. I even sold a Schecter custom shop that I loved because I just didn't want to deal with the floyd.

Guy missed the whole point of the soloist by fusing with looks and generic talking points. The guitar has a neck through body design look into it before you make a review and expose yourself as a day job boi that's a wanabe guitarist
@TheGuitarPit
@TheGuitarPit 4 года назад
This comment is hard to parse because it's so stupid. Yes, it has a neck-thru. Many brands do. What is your point? And no, I do not claim to be a guitarist. I own some guitars, which I play for fun, occasionally.

i dont think that it s from the 1980s,ive had a few and never seen one that color or with chrome hardware.nor have i ever seen frets like that? it must be a newer model and not an old school vintage model.i still have my 1987 charvel model 5 (wich also has the 2 humbuckers) and that thing fucking plays so nice.i havent seen any vintage soloist from the 80s with the 2 humbucker set up.your guitars is from the mid 1990s because all soloist from the 80s had the HSS configuration.in my opinion your guitar is not vintage and definately not worth 1,000 dollars.even the charvel model 6 from the 80s wich was identical to the soloist had the HSS config.it wouldnt hurt to look up the serial number.the dont make them like they used to.
@TheGuitarPit
@TheGuitarPit 5 лет назад
The trans-blue soloists with chrome hardware seem to be from around 2002~2008, but I couldn't get an exact date with the serial. It's built like a tank though, so Jackson USA is still making em sturdy and awesome :)
