Whew…. Tough one to call. JSU is sounding better since the national BOTB and TNSU is just super clean and prepared this year. Not being biased (lol)…. Gotta give the very slightest edge to JSU. But TNSU….. you’re right there this season. Good work you guys doing up there in the “Ville…. It’s nothing but UP for you guys from here…💪🏾
This is hard to call. JSU had the energy and selections, TSU had the balance and finesse. I wish TSU would have bought a new piece or 2 though. I think this a tie. To close to call.
I watched the game here. I love me some JSU, but Tennessee band brought it!!!! They were more clearer and crisp sounding. I was shock JSU didn't blow the roof off. I kept waiting for it but it never came. But that's just my opinion. Either way they both were nice to listen to. It's been a long time, this was so needed. I'm happy people enjoyed themselves. Fuck it if they gone destroy the world might as well enjoy life❤❤✊🏾
Two of my favorite bands! I enjoyed this battle. Both have different styles that work for them. Video and sound quality is great. Thanks for sharing this video! 🎼🔥🔥💯
In person I was impressed by both ensembles, but it was JSU’s last song that gave them the edge for me simply because while there the sound quality was much more full than on video, judging by where I was standing(mostly in the nose bleeds on tnsu side in front of jsu) jsu has some work to do with dawg team’s articulation speed on some of the technical parts, but overall sound quality is a 9/10. After hearing clips of tnsu and hearing their field show, they were very solid, wish I could’ve got a little more power coming from them but they were great as well, slight edge to jsu for song selection
I am a true JSU fan. I was at the game and I will say this TS sounded good as fuck they gave JSU a run for their money . Enjoyed both I give it a tie .... and so what TS played the same songs vs Grambling in the 5th .... IJS.... they rocked several JSU fans as we listened and said TS was not playing !!! FROM A TRUE JSU FAN.
TSU has a more palatable sound FOR ME. With a sound like that, the selections should have been better for this matchup. Especially considering this has always been one of our best matchups for any season besides when we used to play SU.
So um yeah this SO ANXIOUS...The chords alone EXCELLENT. Arranging Genius right there. If this didn't win it over MAN!!! Straight Fire! Great job to TNSU and its staff as well!!
I believe since Covid cancelled the southern heritage a year ago I think people stayed because they missed the 5th quarter band battles. I hate I missed it this year! I usually sit beside one band during the game and beside the other during the 5th to get a feel of what each band sounds like from across the field and up close.☑️💯
Great footage Killa Kev.. both bands gave us a heck of a show. As a proud HBCU alumni I love it… Great to see those future mayors, principals, lawyers, doctors make memories
To me TSU started off stronger but JState really began to open up towards the end. I give them the W for this but it was the best 5th of the season so far
@@aj71169 I thought the same. Jsu was just defending off loki. Cuz we all know that song is already a winner. Jsu did great to to defend off loki, however after that jsu started to control the 5th. Tnsu then started to follow jsu which led them into jsu trap. From 3rd round to the end jsu took ever round for me.
@@kendricksmith1459 It was like TSU was unprepared for a new song being introduced. Loki and Stranger were great, but they allowed JSU to use that Ginuwine as the set-up song and got caught slippin’ at the end.
Really Good Battle. I'm a Jukebox fan but I'm not opposed to giving props. Both schools did very well. I'm a fan of the Boom as well but I gotta be honest. Tennessee was no slouch....at all....I'd say its a tie.... really too close to call. Jsu had a nice blend and crisp sound. Tennessee had the better song choice and a slight edge in the arrangements....too close to call.... I wanna do it but I just cant...
TSU literally play no new selections. No moving moving parts in their arrangements. And then respond to Family Ties with Regulate. That’s a L anyway you put it lol
The BOOM clearly won, but throughout this game I kind of felt like TnSU was much, much better than normal. They had a strong, clear sound on several songs.I just needed to listen to clips and try to confirm what i heard in person. I did however feel like some of the songs sounded better on the clips I heard from last week. I can't remember which songs, but throughout the game, the BOOM seemed to be rushing songs. I was yelling "SLOW IT DOWN." After listening to clips the bands were better than I initially thought sitting in the stadium during 5th.
Sometimes you just have to be there live!! Both ends held their own but JS u's arrangements were well and better written! The sounds fuller and the detailes were there! BOOM FOR THE W!!!
Yeah but as a Boom fan, they got a lot of cleaning up to do and get rid of some of them arrangements. I can see why some people gave it to TnSt. Nonetheless, both bands had their moments.
TSU literally played the same songs against Grambling for the 5th quarter. I prefer JSU’s book and diversity in selections: 1. Way 2 Sexy - Drake, Future, Young Thug 2. Versace of Floor - Bruno Mars 3. Anthem of Praise - Richard Smallwood 4. So Anxious - Ginuwine 5. Family Ties - Baby Keem, Kendrick Lamar JSU with the W.🔥
TSU with the win TSU pop y'all stuff showed them how we do it down in tn. cashville stand up lets go TSU lane college yall need to be next and stop playing
Lol it is what it is. Could have been bad angles or whatever...regardless I didn't hear them as loud as I heard TSU. Yes I've marched bass drum. I give credit where credit is due and I couldn't hear it as much as previous years.
Both were clean but JSU was more powerful & they played songs that was just released like a week ago. And TnSU basically played their same songs in the 5th with Grambling . Which is cray because they barely play teams with bands worth battling. Family Ties song of the night with praise anthem close….. ✅
It was like TSU was unprepared for a new song being introduced. Loki and Stranger were great, but they allowed JSU to use that Ginuwine as the set-up song and got caught slippin’ at the end.
That the same thing I said. I’m a Boom fan but had TnSt came better prepared with new material I think the battle would’ve been a little different. Not to say it wasn’t good and they don’t both sound good but TSU literally play all the same songs as last week and when JSU slapped them “Family Ties” at the end, they didn’t know what hit them and how to respond and played “Regulate”. 😂😂 That’s where the ‘L’ really came in for TSU.
I'm happy to see this is back this year. SMH. Come on boom. Stop trying to out blow everyone. It's a time and place. I give this one to TSU. Better attacks and releases. Much better balance. Got to clean it up.
Tnsu has an excellent sound. But those jackson arrangements have sooo many more moving parts. Listening to tnsu I find a lot of empty spots in their arrangements and that loses me everytime with them. Boom for the win but it was no blowout 4 sure
Anyone else notice that TSU bass drums sound like bombs going off but you can barely hear JSU basses?? I need the camera and mics to stay in the middle between both bands. The back and forth was effecting the sound of the bands.
Frfr I can’t even pick a winner because they are both bringing heat and where tnsu may be lacking their arrangements and execution most definitely make up for.
I just wish the BOOM would slow the tempo of some songs so you can groove to them. It be rushed to me. Like if they slowed family ties and way 2 sexy down a bit it would go sooo much harder
16:04 shout to the whole low brass especially the trombone and tuba section I hear yall grooving 16:49👌... gotta give yall mad props Jackson State.... coming from Aamu alumni. Both band did there thing in Memphis..... #SoulsAnchored
TSU got this battle because they sound better, simple. JSU did better than thought they would though. I hope one day while I'm still on this earth JSU can sound like 2019 again.
I'm proud of HBCUs getting national coverage just wish that the bands 5th qter was part of it as well, TSU drums wow clean JSU brass at 15:39 tight what is the name of that song
Round 1: TNST (Sounded Clearer) Round 2: TNST (Enjoyed Both tho) Round 3: JSU (Although TSU sounded awesome, I just hated the song and it lacked the musicality JSU brought) Round 4: JSU (JSU Tubas woke up all of Middle America! I also think TSU tried to match power, and JSU out powered them). Round 5: JSU (Regulators? Nawl! Horrible way to go out. Especially with the WAR song JSU played! That shat JSU played had woke the Mayans! They was ready for battle!😱😱😱) WINNER: TSU sound was great. Musicianship was there, they just ran out of smoke. Gotta get back in the lab. JSU started with smoke and ended with Hades! 😱😱😱😱. I gotta play that again. That's gotta be the music that plays when an asteroid is on its way to hit Earf! Yes, EARF! And we have 7mins to seek underground shelter, or be vaporized! Loved that! JSU for the win!!!)
Sound and execution, I'm going with the Crats... I do agree with what's being said about song selection though. In today's band world, 5th quarters aren't going but 7 or 8 rounds, maximum. If you know you're facing another top tier band, there's really no reason to be playing songs from previous years. Shouldn't be that difficult to have a brand new 5th quarter book every year.
Yeah...but I don't really have a problem with that. But at least let all the songs be from this year's book. I think a couple of JSUs songs were from previous years. Shouldn't be hard to come with 7 new arrangements over the summer, either band.
I am an Alum of both JSU's Boom and the University. It saddens me to admit it, but TSU won the battle. POINT, BLANK PERIOD! I guess we can take the week to week focus and pressure off the band and actually watch the football game. The Boom has done it's due diligence for years. Go Tigers!
Anybody saying the boom was better has serious issues with their ears or being biased. The Boom only played one song that sounded better than anything the Crats played and that was their last song. The A.O.B was the better sounding band for this 5th.
@@jheht2000 not when the songs sound Better than what the other band was playing. I don't care what new song JSU played if it don't sound good it ain't flying.
I don’t know how to explain it. I be wanting get more into TNSU, but there is no fire. No excitement just dry at times. They are comfortable being a pocket band.
@@jheht2000 you SHOULD never say skate and support JSU. have you seen the videos all over the Facebook, time to, instagram.. Yall got a meme as Jackson SKATE university..
@@Internal_radio so you tell me you playing same songs from last battle is good if you hve top tier band where yo book at and yes TSU sound ok but it’s not enough
@@BFRESH1 I’m telling you I don’t care… I’ve never seen someone say a band lost because they used the same songs, in another battle, against a different band… if they used the same song against JSU last week then we would have a problem. JSU had one really good song and everything else was okay. TSU was consistent all the way through. I care more about how the bands sound…
I’ll just say this. I think tsu sounds better. I think jsu gives more power made energy. But to tsu fans y’all don’t have a problem with no new songs bein played. Like y’all like listening to the same thing on repeat🤷🏾♂️
