In today's guitar lesson we learn how to play "Little Blue" by Jacob Collier and featuring Brandi Carlile. This song is gorgeous and has a mesmerizing chord progression and melody. I created a solo guitar arrangement that navigates through the chords in a fingerstyle manner reminiscent of a James Taylor type of playing.

Be adviced, learning this song might be highly addictive to some. This skilled teacher will go straight to the point, the instuctions will be very clear and yet you'll catch yourself wandering off into a 30 minute impromptu jam sesh, jamming along with this beautiful string of chords that Jacob has masterfully woven together.

Thanks for posting this. I was absolutely lost trying to write out the chords for the break between verses and the second pre-chorus. I just couldn’t hear it. You saved me hours of frustration! Great work!

When I watch him play it, his fingerings and chord position seem unusual. Does he tune his guitar differently? Any insights on his style of playing ?

He definitely doesn't play it in standard. I think drop D, but half step down, so Drob Db. Not sure though. Look around some more and hopefully you'll find something

This is certainly in standard tuning. The capo is 1st fret, so key is concert Eb, but chord shapes are the same as usual. Look at how he shapes the D Major chord, nothing unusual. However, he's playing a G Major 9 and B minor 7 and he's keep the note A (The 5th scale tone) throughout all the chords with his index finger (2nd fret G string). This creates a musical drone, where maintaining one note kind of glues the different chords together. The chord progression on the verse is basically G9 - Bm7 - Em7 - Asus - D. Sometimes he substitutes an Em9... I hope that helps. Beautiful song and a beautiful cover!

His cover is like that, but I don't believe that jake plays it that way. which is what hifiunicorn was asking about, because there's a clear difference between how this cover is played and how jake plays it.@@rajneeshmilarepa6090
