He has been my MP and the joy of him being ejected is almost sexual in its pleasure. But as you say, 15k voted for him despite everything he has done and said. Worse still, some of those supporters are friends and people I care about, respect and even love. I find it impossible to understand why they can’t see it. Let’s hope Dan Norris and the whole Labour government live up to the mandate afforded to them.

Reese Mogg was relatively gracious in his concession speech. I am sure he will be well looked after by his fellow rich friends in the city. However, his fellow Tory party colleague, the abomination that is Liz Truss, was not gracious enough to give a concession speech. Hopefully we will not see either of them again in mainstream politics, but I have a nagging feeling that the horror that is Liz Truss will try and remain relevant and attempt a comeback.

The biggest Portillo moment has to be, the former PM Liz Truss, losing her seat, then, very ungratiously, refusing to give a concession speech. The announcement of the result was delayed, because she could not be found, and when offered the chance to make a speech, she shook her head and promptly left the stage. Another feature of this election has been Sky falling all over themselves to point out that Labour have won a huge majority, but with the lowest share of the vote of any winning party, and conveniently ignoring the fact that this election is the first election in history to have 4 major parties in contention for every seat in England, instead of the traditional 2 or 3, as Reform, who have done very well, did not exist until 2021.

Rees-Mogg losing his seat was less of a shock to me than the moment I realised he is almost 3 years younger than me! 🤯 My gut-reaction to Rees-Mogg is to despise him for being so entitled and smug, but having watched a short film of him as a 12 year old, obsessed with money, stocks and shares and Thatcherite policies, I actually feel some sympathy for him. It appears that he was never allowed to be a child and as a consequence, grew up with a blinkered view of the world, lacking empathy and any concept of what life is really like for ordinary people. If only his parents had bought him a football, a fishing rod or a guitar. His obsession with money and status may have prevented him from realising what the truly important things in life are.

410 seats, yet the labour vote was lower than under Corbyn. The conclusions must be that proportional representation needs to be installed to properly represent voters wishes. That this landslide is built on quicksand and that 5 years from now Labour could suffer the same result as the conservatives are suffering now

Reform actually did quite well with 14.3% of the vote as opposed to conservative with 23.7%. However, it only translated into 4 seats. Proportional representation has its benefits and debits. It represents the vote more accurately, but a minor party can have an excessive influence on government policy if part of the government in a hung parliament.

Mogg can't even correctly perform pomposity, showing what a completely lazy grifter he is. His accent reminds me of Theranos founder Elizebeth Holmes dropping her squeaky voice to an exaggerated low-octave boom; we saw, heard, and laughed, not fooling anyone (except greedy rentier investors).

I have said before in comments, that I considered this man to be perhaps one of the most dangerous, toxic and scary politician ever to take a seat in Parliament. I still believe the man is a clinical psychopath. Its almost worrying that he will now leave the spotlight of public gaze and be free to do....bad things. Rees-Mogg, like Portillo but very unlike Truss, was gracious in defeat. But I don't think politics has ever been more than an amusing hobby for him, just as for Johnson it was an amusing source of newspaper columns till he made the mistake of getting a job far above his pay grade and very obviously panicking repeatedly. Truss has just become useless to her paymasters and hasn't got the family money to fall back on. Just mummy and daddy who have probably been keeping an awkward silence on the subject of politics for many years.

We've stumbled, tumbled, and pratfalled our way to the grand finale of the uproarious spectacle known far and wide as the "Mogg and Truss Calamity Show"! It's been a rollercoaster of a ride, a veritable marathon of mirth and mayhem. Like a pair of vaudevillian virtuosos, Mogg and Truss and their "special" guests have kept us on the edge of our seats, our sides aching from laughter and our eyes watering from the sheer, unadulterated silliness of them both. It's been a whirlwind of wacky antics and zany escapades, a non-stop cavalcade of comedic calamities that would give even the great Buster Keaton a run for his money. But alas, all good things must come to an end, and so we bid a "fond" and somewhat relieved farewell to the madcap madness that was the Mogg and Truss show. May they rot in Hell. Until next time, "That's all folks"!

If you look at the words used by Jacob Rees-Mogg - they could also be directed to the Labour party and their success. He then thanked his agent, campaign director and constituency staff who had “worked so hard over the last 14 years”. He concluded his speech with: “And one final thought, from Caractacus Potts, and that is from the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success. So thank you very much everybody, and good night.”

What I love about the British elections is that the defeated candidates are gracious in defeat, unlike a certain group of politicians/TV personality’s across the pond.
