I think the F1 key by default selects the whole army. the pros don't use it though because they need to micro mutiple groups of army to play effectively at highest level. So he just removed it. Removes the temptation.
A custom keyboard, without the F1 key - very commonly used in SC2 for camera hotkeying ad other things - and with no lettering on any keys besides the two he bought himself... that is literally the furthest thing from generic. Since JD moved to EG, he has to use their sponsor's equipment, in this case Razer. So he uses the DeathAdder Ultimate. Flashy lights, extra features galore, and the ironic part? A much more "generic" keyboard than the one in this video.
Probably because he looks after it (I mean, it's like tradies who don't look after their tools, probably not very good tradies). That and it's a Leopold keyboard, very good quality, so it shouldn't stain/discolour as easily
they clean keyboards pretty often. that's a leopold keyboard. that thing cost like 200 for a keyboard. also, that one is custom made. so they taking care them well. use same keyboard every single day. 12 hours for a day. that keyboard is weapon. if broken? they have to use other keyboard. can you imagine how unfamiliar that is??
Andrew moore Not quite that much. I don't think leopolds are terribly expensive in Korea since it's a Korean brand, I think you can find them for about $130au on Ebay from a Korean seller, which I think is a pretty fair price for a keyboard like that
they use the other F keys and don't want to hit the F1 key by accident when going so fast. They also removed the Windows key at the bottom for the same reason.
imagine the problems he will have in his fingers when he becomes old and how they are going to tremble also the calories are very very very less that those you loose from normal excercises
I can beat someone with 100-120 apm (btw my apm is 50-80) but when i go against someone with 200-220 apm He abuses me by attacking multiple location with his
Xnothen the point of apm video is how easy and fluid is pro gamers multitasking and reaction in games. its not how they spam a keys several times. as they have said, its for warm up their hands remember how slower sc2 became when they participated in sc2 beta well.. even though they play sc in incredible speed, they still think this game is too slow
He is probably used to the Brood war hotkeys where F2, F3, and F4 were the sceen hotkeys and didn't want to accidentally hit F1 and not go anywhere. Progamers use the F keys often as their bases so if you saw a drop coming and you hit the F1 key by accident and don't go straight to the drop, that could be a lot of workers killed...
you are so wrong, BW is much more APM demandant, the slowest progamer that i've seen is savior with 250 apm, others tends to get 300 or more. in sc2 i have seen guys like grubby with 120 apm playing at pro level -.-, so investigate a bit before saying such things
oke lisen , they are indeed browns , but yes leopold does have blacks , if you google leopold fc700r the first site instantly shows that they sell ones with black switches so yeah theres that..
I agree with that sc2 is a extremly fast game in terms of APM etc. no doubt 'bout that, played it formyself when it was released. maybe i'm wrong but i think that many games which are played in high end style are that fast. But nvm thats kind of great what he does, respect :)
That's not that expensive considering that it's a very well made keyboard. Happy Hacking keyboards cost over $300, and so do quality custom keyboards, heck, you could spend $120 on just keycaps pretty easily.
My god... of course most of these are redundant, ever heard about Macro? If you actually want to maneuver through your 3/4 bases, select Queens, inject, slect hatcheries, produce units, slect workers, create buildings, select army, micro said army; all that in such a small period pf time, you do it fast, and you also use the same hotkeys a lot. He's not writing a damn novel, he's playing like he should.
I dont know why the F1 key is missing, but they took out the Windows Key, because most gaming keyboard should have such a gaming mode when you turn it on, the Windows key turns off. Seems like that keyboard dont had an gaming mode. You dont need the Windows Key for playing games and you can turn it off with a gaming mode so you dont press it acidently while playing and going on Desktop while you're ingame.
Preference. This keyboard might not be targeted at gamers but it is still a quality mechanical keyboard that costs around $120. I have the same one and I like it because it is small (no numpad) so my hands/arms could be closer together, it saves a lot of space on my desk, and it is not glossy so it wont leave fingerprints like the Razer Blackwidow or Das keyboard. Also I don't think you can use any macro keys in SC tournaments if your keyboard is capable of doing them.
well drg and losira are ofcourse at the "top" level. its just that they have extra time between actions so they just spam a lil bit to keep the momentum going all the time.
as you can see. jaedong does not spam hotkeys. drg's 600 apm during MLg spring championships were mostly spam. watch drg's keyboard apm shots. most of his clicks do nothing. but jaedong plays faster than this in brood war. guinness world record books marked that he has average of 600 apm. check one of his fpvods :)
it's not a miniature keyboard, it's called a tenkeyless keyboard, look it up. it's a keyboard without a num pad which allows for the mouse hand to be closer to the keyboard hand
I agree with sandwraith205 to an extent, bronze and silver players are the bottom 28% of the skill levels, and to be completely honest, they don't know how to effectively use their APM, my best friend just hit silver for the first time in two years, purely because bronze is now 8% and not 20%.
The f1 key is missing because he havnt bound anything to it and he have f2 to something really important, Sc gamers usually remove the keys next to an important key so they do not miss press it. each player have their own setup and choice of removed keys, some more than others
Probably because anything seen on screen might give rivals a clue on to how certain things are done by Jaedong, giving them an edge over him in a match? No idea but that's my guess. Not that anything secret was being done by Jaedong but more out of force of habit from the coaches.
Well no, i play random race and i am still not using F1,F2. I tried it and it happened nothing. If u are saying Terran is noob race, then you must be the real noob, Terran is most difficult race, You need most multitask, Drop, stim, EMP .....
how does he keep his pinky straight! lol mine is never straight when i use control, and damn hes fast. im a 110-150 apm average, with 80-110 eapm... yes i know mine is irrelevant, but im just saying it because that is like 1/3 of the speed of them! crazy
In Brood War you couldn't hotkey F1 and the windows key was useless and in the way, so that is why 9/10 BW gamers removed those 2 keys on their keyboard... it's like you're removing and letter and rendering yourself unable to type on the keyboard....
No.. Zerg has more things to do. Terrans just need to make structures and queue units like 90% of the time. Zerg needs to make units, make structures, constant inject (if u miss an inject u dont get ur larva back), spread creep, etc.
Did you fail 1st grade reading comprehension? All he did was post a video about Jaedong's APM. Nowhere in the title nor description does he tie it with skill.
they take out the keys that they never use and might have adverse effect on the game (see that he took out the windows key so he cannot inadvertently minimize starcraft) - but I don't know what F1 did in SC1
Lol wtf? Are you trolling? Razer is like the bottom-end of the mechanical keyboards. They only recently in the passed few jumped on the mechanical keyboard wagon, and started mass producing cheap ones.
Well i would i say the winning rate was equal until 2012 when zerg started to dominate. Before it MC, Nestea, Fruitdealer, MVP, MMA, Huk... almost every race won tournaments.
And that with F1 and F2 i am so stupid, i use it. It's to select the unworking workers and the whole army right? I was confused as some1 said it is for camera or something like that.
I see, but wouldn't you use shift to add to a control group instead of creating new ones? Also, there are times where he presses ctrl but doesn't press a number..? Like around 1:15 - 1:20
Exactly. People say zerg takes no micro, but they fail to realize everything else that needs to be done mechanically. "Higher apm for zergs mean they spam more hur dur." Silly stuff.
@ukie5 actually, the description wasn't there originally, and was put up by moletrap BECAUSE I asked the question, and all the fanboys downvote my comment.. great. thanks, noobs!
His keyboard is so generic? I wouldn't say a Leopold FC700R is very generic. Qsenn DT-35 is a generic keyboard in Korea but that's rubber dome as opposed to mechanical.
Nope. BW is the most APM dependent. Warcraft 3 is also definitely more APM dependent y than SC2. Hell, I would argue you can get by with DOTA APM in SC2 ( 120-150 ).
Thats actually not that high -_- I'm only diamond and I move almost as fast. Not to discredit flash, this just wasn't one of the videos demonstrating his potential apm -_-
Actually it does have letters, you just can't see them from that angle with the camera, they're laser engraved, not printed in the normal fashion so it's harder to tell.
There are letters, the white balance is just so bad they are obscured. Watch the left shift key as his hand passes over it. The shadow makes the word barely visible.
Honestly speaking, if you spent the money to buy a G15, then you made a big mistake. It's like choosing to have a Honda Civic when you could've had a Ferrari.
Because he doesn't hit the buttons normally just like every other typewriters.Use ring finger for too many keys, it isn't exactly the strongest finger you know :P
Because in SC2 you only use f2-5 for moving the camera to different spots on the map. F1 isn't needed and it's a wasted button press if he accidentally press it.
It's a Leopold FC700R and the switches are Browns not Black. If you look very closely, the switch ENCLOSURE is black yes, but the actual switches are brown.
Just realized i have the same mouse and mouse pad, and i also position the mouse pad the same way............Maybe it's a sign i should switch to zerg.....
