I just realized -- Jafar didn't know Prince Ali was actually Aladdin when he had him chained up and thrown off a cliff to drown. That means that for all Jafar knew, he was assassinating a foreign prince. And he never stopped to consider how that could start a war between Agrabah and Prince Ali's country? Damn.
It is possible that Jafar claimed to the guards that Prince Ali raped Jasmine. In Islamic cultures back then, raped was such a major offense that even royalty could be legally put to death.
I think perhaps a mixture of the two. The way society treated him is part of what made Jafar the way he was, but so was the way he reacted to it. I actually didn't know about his implied origins before, but if he came from a similar background to Aladdin that would add an interesting dimension to the story and them being each other's foil; that they turned out so differently because Jafar focused on how he was wronged and putting himself in a position of power so he could tear down those who once had power over him, while Aladdin's experience being powerless lead him to be empathetic towards other in a similar position and made him a kinder person
One thing I've noticed recently after rewatching Aladdin is just how Jafar's charisma blinds him from easier solutions. Since he is able to hypnotize the Sultan with his scepter, why didn't he make the Sultan step down and crown him as the new monarch of Agrabah? Professor Ratigan tried doing that with a robotic queen 6 years earlier, yet the directors didn't think of that idea? It is possible that Jafar tried that once and since people grew suspicious, he had to brainwash everyone to forget it happened to protect his position in the palace.
Jafar has long since been my favourite Disney Villain. I think that he became a being of pure evil, partially due to his early years, and partially/mainly because of his immense lust for power.
@@user-zr4wh3lh5v Maybe. In my opinion Jafar is the greatest Disney Villain. He succeeded in dominating the universe, multiple times. One of those times was in Mickey's House of Villains, when he led all the other villains against the heroes and succeeded in overthrowing them all, becoming the new ruler of the Disney-verse for a time.
@@user-zr4wh3lh5v Jafar was able to keep all of the other Disney Villains under his control without any issue, so his capabilities as a ruler are undoubtable.
Just a slight mention here: there was a plan for Jafar to have a son but instead it is hinted it is just his disciple that he took under his wing similiar to Kovu and Scar. This character would grow to be a well loved pale dark sorcerer named Mozenrath. Mozenrath was also slated to be an evil brother of Aladdin in one of the films for he did not take to being poor as happily as his brother and maybe even felt like since his brother was so goody goody he got more affection. Though scrapped he still looks similair to our pal Al, albeit pasty and more gothic in tone. If you wanted to combine multipile theories and suggest that planned ideas are still canon then perhaps jafar and Aladdins mother had Mozenrath since jafar grew up poor and could have met her that way. Seeking power not love jafar left his family and Aladdins mother met and wed Aladdins father Cassim. This would have meant at some point jafar could have been Aladdins stepfather and things could have turned out much more different. This also adds to the original story where the vizier has either one or two sons he wants to marry the princess off to. Im not a fan of theories and debunk them but when i find one that interests me i take to it and you have provided some solid ones. This is one of my own and stems from a place of extensive knowledge on Aladdin. Ive also assumed that Ali baba was Aladdins Uncle thus their similar names but thats another thought for another time. Let me know what you think and im happy to further discuss and debate.
I enjoy Jafar he’s silly funny sarcastic and hilarious he looks very classy handsome and nice the robe is very nice and besides he is the boy version of Maleficent and he even possesses the same power as her and Mickey but he really isn’t evil I like him
Man, these videos are amazing! You definitely deserve more subs. As for the KH question, YES!! He is constantly going into his ball form. Anyway, keep up the great work!!!
to bad your never Incorporated/ added Once Upon a Time in Wonderland background story of Jafar I know it's not canon but ITS Disney same world aloha great video
I'm glad you are enjoying the videos you are finding so far of mine! Dr. Facilier is awesome. Princess and the Frog is so underrated. Thanks for watching!
Wow, I'm impressed. In the original story, the character who parallel to Jafar is the Sorcerer, who sends the young Tailor's son to retrieve a old oil lamp from a magic cave. Welho has come from far away from Maghreb, but the story itself is located in or near China where many Muslims and Jews live side by side. Disney's adaptation settles somewhere in the Arabian desert. And small funny thing but true, Agrabah is a partial anagram from the city of Baghdad whither the film had been located. I actually thought in my mind that Jafar is a Sultan's bitter Vizier whose goal is to reach to be Caliph instead of the Caliph*. Like Iznogoud, but a much darker and more manipulative character as this. (*And why? 'Cause this Disney Sultan is too batty and potty to rule.)
You know how Jafar and all those other Disney characters were in that show House Of Mouse during the framework footage? I always wondered what it would be like if they did a new version of that only this time it also included the Marvel and Star Wars characters. I see Jafar as trying to hang out with the more serious villains like Red Skull, Doctor Doom, Green Goblin, Venom, Electro, Mysterio, Loki, Doc Ock, etc from the Marvel Universe and from time to time trying to get into Hydra but failing.
What about Shawn Yu's past? There's not much to go by there, but I'd still love to see a video covering (my favorite and most underated in my opinion) Disney villain.
The sultan was either an idiot or perhaps mentally challenged, he played with toys and didn't know how his kingdom ran and was distracted by any movement or "shinny object" ... he didn't even teach his daughter, Jasmine, the future Queen how the economy worked since she had no idea what payment was. A kindly, "special" man but woefully inept. Sigh, maybe Jafar should have been in charge?
Personally, I like Twisted the best. It basically does the same thing that Maleficent did to Sleeping Beauty. It tells Jafar's backstory, and why he became known as a villain. His past is, like most villains, sad. But, it is a surprisingly good musical.
@@IcyDiamond Agreed. they took away his clever wit, his disguises, his lunatic-style fun when he became sorcerer, and in all honesty worst yet, never even allowed him to transform into a giant snake. I was ABSOLUTELY begging to see that scene in live action. But all we got was giant Iago, who never even talking the entire movie...horrendous.
One of my favorite villains. I learned about his sister and backstory in this video, so this just made him and the whole story of Aladdin even more interesting
I LOVE Jafar! He's my favorite Disney character ever! Jafar was running Agrabah not the idiot Sultan. I loved him in once upon a time in wonderland especially...
Of course he went crazy! Imagine being the only responsible adult in a court compose of a soft probably insane Sultan and his irresponsible teenage daughter who not only didn't care about a very important law, but refuses to understand anything about her own land, and doesn't even understand the concept of money!. And Aladdin was a deceiving con artist, who didn't have any money or kingdom and a marriage like that will probably destroy the economy, not to mention the already week alliances with foreign realms, whose princes had been offended by Jazmin.
Wotso Videos Do me a favor. On the next disney theory, do Kerchak from Tarzan. I would like to know about his past and I wonder if he hated humans which lead to him disliking Tarzan
I have one major issue with Aladdin: why did everyone just let it slip by that the Palace Guards attempted to execute a prince on Jafar's orders. Like, it's one thing to take orders to arrest Aladdin the street rat for being a "menace", but what justification was there to take orders to quietly kill him when they thought he was Prince Ali? Pretty sure they weren't all under control by the Cobra staff. Like seriously, Razoul (I hope that's how you spell it) looked like the kind of guy who just wanted to kill for fun. Why was he still kept around as head of the guards and not kicked out. . .or, at the very least, demoted?
NikitaRoqueSox Corruption perhaps? The sultan never seemed to me to be the kind to really care about what's going on, and therefore left Jafar in charge of such "mediocre" tasks like choosing the palace guards. Maybe Razoul (I have no idea either) hid his true nature like Jafar himself.
Or maybe Jafar convince them that Aladdin was a deceiving con artist (he kinda was) and they believed they were doing it for the greater good. Like if the princess believes he just leaved she would probably move on and marry someone more suitable and the country would be in better hands.
Jafar may have claimed Jasmine was raped by the Prince. (But not on camera because it's Disney) In Islamic cultures back then, rape was such a major offense that even royalty could be legally put death , for such a crime. Until Jasmine claimed her side of the story, the royal guards then turned on Jafar for his lie.
It could've been due to Loyalty to Jafar, over loyalty to the Sultan, Agrabah or law. That's how many usurpers came to power, loyal individuals that wanted a regime change and wanted that particular person in power. But if anything happened to that usurper, those under him could easily claim "following orders" and not be sentenced to death or any form of punishment at all.
It's curious that Jafar became the red genie from the original tale while Genie was based on the lesser blue djinni that was bound to the ring Aladdin got from his still very much alive mother.
Hey Wotso!! I love your videos on the origins of villains do you think you could do one on the step mother from Cinderella, or have you and I'm just completely forgetting? Well if you haven't could you I'd love to see something on why she is the way she is. Why is she so horrible to Cinderella? Did she actually love Cindys father? Love your videos Wotso and keep it up your channel gets so much support from the fan that love you! (Me included)!!
I'm glad you are liking all of the villain origins! I have not done one on the evil stepmother, but I know it would be a fun one to make. Probably the next one I'm going to make is Maleficent, but I will for sure do one on her in the future. Thanks for watching!
I love jafar, I love a good make villain with magic, but you forgot that in once upon a time in wonderland Jafar also went to wonderland to help the red queen, to get the three genie lamps to break the laws of magic
I know a friend that could be the Villain like Jafar Her Name is Mackenzie Fraser She's from Avon Grove High School Maybe she can be the Most Powerful being Just like Jafar
Jafar were realy terrifying to me when I were younger now im 17 years old, Im actually still a bit scared of him I got a bit traumatized by him or smth like that :)
how about a video on Shrek and how there are no ogres on any of the movies until he makes a deal that causd him not to exist. I think his dad was responsible
you forgot to look into his true background provided by once upon a time in wonderland. you should check it out it does a great job explaining his psychology
The "historical" Grand Vizier of Persia, Jafar bin Yahya, who served as a model for the Aladdin's Jafar, belonged to the dynasty named the Barmakid, the petty nobility of Persia of the ancient Afghani descent.
Shot in the dark, but here's what I gather about Gaston: born into a rich family, with a father obsessed with hunting and an overly doting submissive mother. Bullied kids in school and got away with it. Got away with a lot of things in general, thanks to a powerful lineage who threw money at problems to make them disappear. Hazed freshmen in college, eventually decided he was too cool for school so he dropped out to become a hunter like his daddy, kept the frat boy attitude as a souvenir while viewing himself as God's gift to women. Going through life as a chauvinistic pig who never had to deal with consequences for his actions, Gaston had no incentive to ever be a better person. He also never had anyone say No to him... Except for Belle. This is a totally paraphrased summary, how did I do???😆
You know, one thing about the movie Aladdin that I never understood (and have yet to find a solid, definitive explanation for) is why Jafar only ever hypnotized the sultan. If his backup plot for power was to marry into the throne, why not hypnotize and manipulate both the sultan and jasmine? I've looked around the internet, but I couldn't find a satisfactory answer to this.
in Descendants, Mal turns into a dragon like her mother, Maleficent. In Aladdin, Jafar becomes a snake. So does that mean Jay can become a snake like his father?
Sooooo just thought I'd point out that the bandits name is Mal, and human. And Mal from decendents father is human. And the VK's commonly have names like their parents. It could be short for maleficent, but still.
Fun fact jafar was inspired by maleficent from sleeping beauty since they both carry staffs , have birds as their sidekicks and pets, and they both have large headress
