Maybe the touch nothing rule is only when it's on purpose with intent to take it?

1. I think the animals in Aladdin are “extensions” of their owners. So if Iago went in, it would be like if Jafar went in. And Abu going in is fine because the cave saw him as part of Aladdin, and any rulebreaking would count as Aladdin breaking the rule, not Abu himself 2. The live action version changes it to “TAKE nothing but the lamp”, which I feel is more fitting 3. Because Jafar wants all the glory for himself, that’s why he wants to be Sultan. The live action version explains a little more how he’s been told to “know his place” and that he isn’t Sultan. So he wants to be in a position where he holds all the power, even without his staff 4. He has to be careful about Jasmine because the Sultan loves her dearly and believes that Jafar does too. If Jafar didn’t bring her back to the palace, or if he killed her, it would make the Sultan suspicious, and Jafar couldn’t have that 5. Aladdin is a prince, but he has no kingdom (live action version shows that even after wishing to be a prince, Aladdin still has to ask Genie to make the kingdom appear on the map. But it’s not a real kingdom, it’s just an illusion). A royal with no kingdom is hardly a royal at all, especially in a Disney movie

This is the same reason why Iago can't just fly in and get the lamp for his master, Jafar. Aladdin can step on the carpet and not break the rules for the same reason why the carpet can touch Aladdin and not break the rules: Aladdin wasn't trying to take the carpet, his touch was passive. It was only when Abu grabbed the jewel to take for himself (and by extension Aladdin) that the rules were broken. [As an example, had Aladdin tripped into a pile of coins he still wouldn't have broken the rules as he wasn't trying to take them, his touching them was incidental and thus he remained worthy.] Trust me, I know my fairy tale lingo. Wish 1: djinn (genie) to understand and interpret all my wishes exactly as I mean them(djinn in stories are notorious for this) 2: for my body, mind and soul able to absorb and withstand infinite amounts of power without consequences 3: to have all the powers of a djinn/genie without being one and having the restrictions of granting wishes to others and living in a lamp.

Fun fact: the ORIGINAL Aladdin myth (folktale? I dunno) had NO limit to the number and type of wishes. The only thing the Genie said was, "Your wish is my command."

Thought that bugs me: Aladdin wishes to become a prince. not PRETEND to be a prince. A real prince, whole package. Does that mean that together with a fancy outfit and monkey-elephant, Genie also had to create an entire kingdom from scratch, background history, new royal family three, country's economics and trade? All those people in the Prince Ali song, do they just disappear from existens afterwards or do they stay in the city, just hanging around without purpose? When Jafar asks where Aladdin's country is located, he can't answer! He's got no lies prepared! And nobody knows about him or his fake country, the sultan just takes his words for it! And two, why does Aladdin panic when the sultan tells him he can marry Jasmine and later become sultan himself? Didn't he know that's kinda how the royal family heritage works? Or did he just wanna meet Jasmine and be like "hey, wanna hang out in my homeless ruin and steal some bread together?". He really didn't think this trough. One moment you meet a pretty girl, and the next you're faking a royal title and being told that you'll get married and one day rule an entire country...

Everybody is talking about things they would wish, but I need only one wish to have everything I want: Being able to rearrange molecules the way I want. - you never have to pay for things, no need to get out of your house... just grab some trash from the bin and rearrage the molecules so it is a hamburger or a pillow ect. Always think about your wishes people!

I would wish for 2 things: 1) The Infinity Gauntlet 2) Genie's freedom

I always assumed that when Jafar "changed Aladdin back into his old clothes." He was also magically removing his Prince-hood. What can be obtained by magic can be lost by magic.

After Aladdin releases Genie, he still posesses his magic. If Aladdin released him in the beginning of the movie or even during the battle against Jafar, Genie could have done anything he wanted, even beat Jafar, or at the very least that would've freed Genie from Jafar's control. It makes no sense!

In the new trailer, Will Smith (Genie) says that Aladdin is a prince on the outside, so your arguments are sort of resolved! Maybe they watched this video.....

The fact that Aladdin was not a Prince at the end used to bother me as well. He wished to BE a prince, not appear a prince. So I never understood about how he needed to tell the truth, since the truth was he was a prince. I think that Genie literally made him a prince, in fact at the end Genie says "One bonafide pedigree coming up." That's right, as an all powerful Genie, he can literally change Aladdin's heritage. This bothered me until I realized that this same ability was given to the most powerful sorcerer in the world, Jafar. When Jafar "revealed" Aladdin, he didn't just change his clothes, but reversed the wish that the Genie had granted, turning him back into a street rat. Then the Sultan changing the law at the end isn't a surprise. He is Sultan and should be able to decree whatever he wants. That said, I don't think he would have changed the law for anyone less than the man who restored his kingdom to him.

The reason the cave has a pieced ear is because it matches the genie. Also, if I had a genie I would write down like 100 wishes on paper and then wish for the genie to grant everything on the pages.

There's a lot of potholes and headscratchers in Disney movies (or movies in general) that we often hardly notice because the entertainment value stands out a lot more.

the thing about aladdin getting a job is that someone would have to give him one, it’s clear that no one likes him so they wouldn’t offer him a job and he clearly has 0 money so he couldn’t just become a merchant without the start up money. and as far as Jafar just hypnotizing the sultan, i think he knew there was a limit to his powers and what he could get him to do, then there’s also the fear that someone else could see him doing it and he’d prolly be killed on the spot for it. the carpet clearly belonged to someone who tried to enter the cave and didn’t make it out so not part of the caves treasure. i think the whole prince thing is more about the fact that he still feels like a street rat and not a prince, also that whole thing about how genies play tricks with their wishes, he wished to be a prince so he looks like one but isn’t actually biologically a prince. and to your point about aladdin stealing, he only steals enough for him to be able to eat to keep living, it’s not like he takes enough to fill him up or that it’s not the amount they’d have prolly had to throw out anyway, he’s just a kid trying to survive on the streets of a town of people who obviously look down on him and think he’s trash, but still he goes out of his way to help others and is genuinely kinds despite how he’s grown up. i’ll give you the only one can enter and that whole thing tho

Doesn't "diamond in the rough" mean unpolished? So deep down, he's got the "diamond" quality, but right now he is "in the rough," ie a thief and not a great person.

When Aladdin wished to be a prince, I always wondered what he was a prince OF. Did the genie have to create a whole nation for him to be a prince of, or did he just give him nice clothes?

One thing that made no sense to me is this. After Aladdin has been arrested, Jasmine goes to Jafar to confront him. Jafar says Aladdin has been beheaded for "kidnapping the princess". The Sultan even scolds him for punishing Aladdin without telling him. So, when Jasmine found out that Ali was Aladdin, her first question should have been, "I was told you were beheaded. How did you get out of that?"

This was made a few years ago, but I think the Sultan's ring has a story behind it. Maybe at one time the Sultan was the Diamond in the rough, and after what ever adventure was done, he received the ring from the cave of wonders. Making that ring the link to the cave. What do you think folks? That would be a great story.

I think the main problem with Aladdin's wish of becoming a prince is that him staying prince means that Genie will never be free. The main difference between Jafar and Aladdin was that Jafar was not planing on letting the Genie be free. Aladdin wanted to use his last wish to set him free and that's where the conflict comes from. If at the end Jasmine wished for Aladdin to be a prince, Genie would've had to stay with Jasmine... well at least until they get married so I guess she could wish for Aladdin to become a prince, get married and then let Genie free.

I think the point of all of the treasure in the cave was to tempt people to touch it and therefore their own greed would be the reason for their death. The entire point of the cave was to guard the lamp.

A few things. He’s called the diamond in the rough. Meaning the diamond needs to be excavated from its flawed exterior, which the stealing Aladdin is an example of. Also, Jafar doesn’t know that’s Jasmine in the globe, so he isn’t sending the guards to bring her back.

But one thing I wonder: It is always mentioned that Aladdin is no prince BUT in movie #3 we learned that Aladdins father is the "king of thieves". So doesn't that make Aladdin the "prince of thieves"? Well he has no kingdom but he is in title a prince. Is that perhaps the reason why the first wish doesn't come true? Make a theorie about that!
