The devs did offer an official MOD (by themselves) to display the hit percentage chances. Easy to add via the Steam Workshop. So they did not try to hide this part intentionally.

Huge member berry, of JA in the 90s on a menu disk complete with cheat/menu, super charging "skitz" to be unlimited everything. Fun times on a Packard bell pre pentium 386. Great work as always, thank you.

I bought JA3 because the reviews on steam seemed good and I had heard so much about the previous title which I had sadly never played. The writing/dialogue was so cringe that I went on GOG and bought JA2 and it is fantastic. It amazes me how much games really have regressed.

Not a bad game and the devs are really good at supporting and updating it after launch. Still doesnt hold a candle to JA2 but its way better than most modern games.

Guns balance themselves. No truer words have been spoken about firearm mechanics in video games. Either developers are focused on balancing weapons or they have no concept of what weapons can do. The Division. For some reason a MAC-10 9mm submachine gun has better damage output than a M60E5 chambered in 7.62mm NATO. 9mm parabellum might punch through two car doors at 50 yards. 7.62 NATO will punch through most of a car body at 1000 yards. With only the engine block stopping the bullet. The engine block won't last long against machine gun fire. Shotguns are rarely depicted accurately in video games. Firing an RPG or equivalent recoiless weapon indoors or with friendlies in backblast zone. Might be a terrible idea.

Absolutely true when you make guns realistic in games they balance themselves. I get old school game balancing for unrealistic off the wall arcade shooters where your wall running with dual sawn off 8 gauge double barrel demonic shotguns. But no excuse for a "tactical" military shooter and this is the problem I find with every game in this genre I've played. Xcom, wasteland etc. It's like they all just figured out what a firearm was the morning they started development.

You reference a lot of things I would like to read more about. I don't know who Bella Thorne is and why she is considered to have messed up anyone, and I'm unfamiliar with THQ Nordic. While people can always search for themselves, running a websearch gives me a bunch of other articles that may be unrelated or press pieces, such as THQ Nordic saying it was Koch Media regarding Metro Exodus.

I was wondering why my doctors and engineers were my best shooters, realized it was their pistols and switched everyone to rifles. Head shot everyone, then when they move closer next turn, headshot them some more. Rifles + Grenades. I don't think Larry ever successfully his RPG and mortar rounds seem to actually move themselves midshot to avoid hitting the enemy. You also spend 99% of the game fighting the virtually the same brigade of tribal warriors: the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker.

While I'm glad we got this in the meantime, I'm absolutely looking forward to listening to you rip into Starfield. One of the most overrated games in recent memory.

Do you have any plans on covering Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 + Phantom Liberty (after your brilliant 3 part series)? And also, will you be covering the upcoming RoboCop game? I played the demo and had mixed feelings, namely I found it boring outside of the very well captured atmosphere of the movies. Would be interesting to hear your take on both of them.

Wisdom used to be a stat that makes a character learn faster, which is why i liked to have wise mercs in JA2. For some reason the Jagged Alliance 2 atmosphere and gameplay was better. The guns were more realistic. Rifles were a game changer and in the beginning very important to obtain. The G3, M 14, FN-FAL slightly differed and were the guns that made most sense. Snipers could shoot across the whole map, but use as much ap as 3 or 4 shots with an assault rifle. The aim invest system was simple but nice, head or torso or legs, use more points to aim better or spend less to shoot more rounds. Experience soldiers always in the front, so the enemy is less likely to shoot first or interrupt. Once enemies where spotted the game turned into turn based mode. Inbetween it went back to free mode when no enemies where seen, so you had to be carefull not to be suprised from another angle and were able to try to reposition, because the enemy actually starts to fortify and let you run into them. Even though the graphics are better now, it feels less immersive and too crowded, with too many camera angels. The AI also acts less realistic in the new one. In JA2 once there was first blood, they all started running towards you, possibly overwhelming you and some laying down, so you had stalemate situations, making regrouping usefull. Grenades actually made more sense in close quater urban situation. Not just having a pack of enemies ready to be blown up like in JA3, where you can grenade yourself through the game.

There are two things that stood out to me that made the game feel dodgy. The first is the Farcry-esque enemy types, highlighted with tooltips that explain their behavior. The second is the guy scavenging parts from a tricycle. These are "gamey" things that don't belong in a hard-boiled mercenary manager sim. And I think your... unorthodox tactics are caused by similar issues. Normally, you'd expect four guys lying abreast on a bridge to be fodder for machinegun fire and grenades. But they're not when machineguns don't do damage and only one enemy has mastered the art of tossing explosives. Let alone when the enemy has a habit of running out into the open themselves, and has a significant portion of their number being designated melee guys. That's kind of the thing with games like this: If the stupid tactic works, that's a problem with the design, not the person doing it. And on that note, the weapons all seem to have laughably short ranges.

I thought Stallone judge dredd had the look of the world down pat and rob schieder was kinda a stand in for Walter

if you want RNG-PTSD you should play battle brothers. it has one of THE worst "r"ngs ive ever seen. you miss 10x a 95% hit, the enemy hits you 10x with a 5% chance. over and over and over again. even x-com is fairer.

I was a 240 gunner on my vehicle. Trust me when I say that whether I shot once or small controlled bursts, it did vastly more than 8 damage. I’d argue that it did far more damage than my M4. Playing video games for years, one would expect that 240 to be a peashooter compared to an M4. IRL, while I wouldn’t have wanted to carry my 240, it was a sight better at killing large swaths of people in a shorter amount of time when you caught the enemy in the open than my M4.

21KT. Gotta argue with ya. The 1884 Winchester was chambered in 44-40 (44 WCF) and that was not conceived as a pistol round. That round made to take advantage of the 1866 action in the Winchester that was stronger than the Henry and could stand up to a more powerful round. So Winchester developed the 44-40 (44WCF) and later Colt made the 1873 SA to also handle the round. It is even listed in SAAMI as a rifle round.

The .44 Lever Action is super OP in Far Cry games too. Maybe its a game dev inside joke. 44 - 40 isn't really a pistol round, its considered a rifle cartridge. Its got different shaped bullets and different powder... I think the brass is thicker too. though the ammo is interchangeable with the .44 magnum handcannon, you want the rifle version for a rifle. Its a big, heavy round with a lot of power behind it that will drop a guy like a bag of crap. The lever action, especially one made before 1960, is a really good, accurate rifle with a reciever made from a milled block of steel. But its no sniper rifle 😂. Maybe if it were in 30-30 with a long barrel and some custom mods. Its not showing up a .308 or 30-06 thats for sure.

I am guessing you didn't play on the lowest difficulty? It is obvious to me that even on the medium difficulty, your mercs have a penalty to hit, while the enemies have a bonus to hit, independent of all other factors, just to make the game "harder" (dumber)

I've wasted 100's of hours watching the Terminator movies. Mainly Salvation & Dark Fate. I've had a little pop watching the other titles in the series. It's safe to say I'm a fan which is very important to note for reasons you'll discover later.
