Price controls on food, historically, causes instant shortages and hyperinflation, 100% of the time… all part of « Order Out of Chaos ».

Oddly enough in asia where food prices are regulated usually forces retailers to only set at set rates.

@@barryhaley7430 well most asian countries regulate the retail prices of majority food products. Some stuff is variable like produce.
@barryhaley7430

@@asadb1990 I checked Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Singapore. Only Singapore regulated some basics like rice and cooking oil but only in the NTUC supermarkets. This does pressure the private supermarkets to keep their prices lower but it is hardly food price control. Thailand recently extended price controls on 51 goods until June of 2025. Again, only some basic foods like rice, cooking oil, eggs, milk and wheat flour. Other goods include petroleum.

Stop. You can dislike a politician, but it's not fair to cast you aspersions on an entire race of people! It's that bullshit commentary from conservative followers, that hold the party back from attracting more liberal Canadians to voting for that party. Not at all sure how I feel about some of Pierre's policy, but he's absolutely what this country needs right now to try to put a dent in the dumpster fire of an economy we have right now. You need to stop letting your inside voice out... People might think you're a raging racist. And no sir, I did not vote NDP or Liberal in the last few elections. Maybe when I first started voting, NDP under Layton I think.

the end user is the only one that pays the carbon tax. Any company that pays a carbon tax will simply add it to the cost of their product or service, it's just another input cost. This is done throughout the supply chain, from producer of the raw material to manufacturer of the finished product. This basically means, at the end of the line - the buyer of that product or service, has paid all of the carbon taxes that were applied. Thank you Liberal/NDP Government.

You can literally map out on a whiteboard exactly what has happened the last 4 years to directly contribute to higher food prices and there are still too many people who think greed is the only explanation. As if the people selling you food weren’t greedy before.

Why should she not expect it Banksters who profit from issuing sub-prime mortgages on the way up expect taxpayers to bail out the banks on the way down. Bank of Canada is buying tens of billions of those garbage mortgage backed securities from the banks and making taxpayers liable for it. So why should an older person not expect something as a citizen of the country when crooks are cleaning out the trough?

I wasn't aware that the government could impose pricing that corporations set for their products. Are they going to cap prices on cars, phones, telecommunications, etc? Interesting. Fighting price fixing yes, dictating prices, they can't. Bring back the laws against monopolies, that would help, but your rich buddies won't support you anymore. Just more BS.

Effectively setting interest rates (aka price fixing) and printing money (aka counterfeiting) is what central banks do. its main purpose is to transfer losses from a cartel of banks onto the backs of the public. i.e. privatize gains and socialize losses.

Government creates monopolies, the corporations just pay them off (lobbying) to stop their competition, while convincing ppl they are holding them accountable.

I hate high prices as much as the next guy, but high levels of inflation and price caps isn't going to end well. Food Companies are going to pack up and leave or shut down. You can't have a plan to triple the Carbon Tax and keep prices fixed that's just not how that works. You have to fix the economy and the worth of our dollar, not by artificially locking prices and redistributing wealth through taxes.
