I’ve always preferred the look of the Jaguar but preferred the sound of the Jazzmaster. The Jazzmasters wider field single coil and longer scale produces a fatter sound with more mids while still sounding jangly. I still want a Jaguar though. Lol. If I was getting a custom Jazzmaster built I would have the chrome accents and switching like the Jaguar. Nice demo Jim.

If only the Jazzmaster didn't have such a god awful bridge pickup, I could maybe lean towards it, but the jag plays easier, looks better, and has a usable bridge pickup so it's my preference... a shame Im stuck with this gold jazzmaster forever true first world problems haha

@@AudiomoMusic I kinda agree on the Jazzmaster bridge pickup having some issues :( Always sounded wimpy to me, could kinda beef it up by lowering the tone knob, but then it would take the sparkle away from the neck and middle positions. My compromise was getting some Lollar Jazzmaster pickups, the bridge is wound a bit hot, then with my 1meg pots, I have a treble bleed on the volume and keep the tone around 5, seems to be a good compromise between the usually very stark difference in sound between the neck and middle, and the usually too-thin bridge pickup

I really love the sound of a JM. I've only played a Player Jaguar, and I wasn't super fond of how thin it sounded. I played a Classic Vibe JM and really liked it! I haven't played a higher model than that one, but would really like to try one. UPDATE: So I finally got to try a Vintera Modified and Ultra Jazzmaster. They were both great. I feel like the Ultra wasn't too different from the Vintera though, so that's definitely the better option to me considering the $1100 price difference.

Great video!! I’ve got a Jag with Fralin pickups installed in it too. It’s a Vintera I with also an overwound pickup in the bridge. In combination with the 1 meg pots it gave the Jag such a nice full and balaced sound. No ice pick highs or too boomy lows, yet still maintaining the Jag tone. I was laughing in the room for the high gain part, none of it was ideal at all I wanted to push it... two single coil guitars going into a princeton style low watt tube amp with a pedal pushing even further hahaha... certainly not something I'd record or what to use in a practical situation. Also I appreciate that, I find myself having much more fun in general standing up and playing. It gets boring just sitting around.
@dimiaraujo90
@dimiaraujo90 Год назад
If I had to choose between the two as they are originally from the factory, I would pick the Jazzmaster, just based on the tone. But if I had my way customizing them, I believe that the Jaguar would be a way better platform for me, based mainly on the type of bridge and shorter scale length, which ends up creating a much more confortable guitar to play for hours and hours straight. For me, the only thing a Jaguar really needs, is more mids. So, replacing the pickups for some kind of Humbuckers, or trying a series wiring schematic with the original single-coils would be the way to go. And also, if we could add block/trapeze inlays, I think they would look a lot cooler, lol.

I have a vintage spec 60s Jaguar, which I string with Labella flatwounds that give me a tight, percussive attack for classic surf or spaghetti western kind of rhythm sounds with enough low end thump for swampy blues and country folk. It has more of an acoustic character than most electrics. Compared to a Jazzmaster, the Jag is a tighter, more staccato and boxy sound that works particularly well for single string lines and arpeggios. It has a kind of scooped out and less distorted sound with gain that I prefer for fingerpicking. Where the Jazzmaster excels is for big, open sounding chords with ringing sustain and legatto lead lines. They tend to sound better with standard rounds. They both do jangle sounds well, but I think Jags are a little brighter. If your not sure which to get, I'd recommend a Jag for the Tele player and a Jazz for the Strat player.

I would actually say the Jazzmaster would be a more natural feel than the Jag. SGs compared to other guitars feel a bit further way at the first fret and the Jag is far closer to your body - the Jazzmaster will be right where the strat is and make the transition easier. Either way, cant go wrong and Being a lefty certainly makes things tougher I can imagine

@AudiomoMusic
@AudiomoMusic Год назад
That is true and another way around it, but the thing with those buzz stops are the other effects it has on the way the guitar feels tension wise and even slightly changing the sound. Paired with the right guitar that has very minimum string tension I think it's a great fit, but if the guitar already feels really tense as Jazzmasters can do given the scale length and thicker strings typically used on them, it can make it a bit much. On Jaguars I find in general I do find them more useful and less of a drastic shift in feel.

Jazzmasters sound like Strats with more powerful pickups and pots on them. They feel like other Fenders (save for the offset body) and in my experience, sound louder and fuller than their siblings. Jaguars sound a little different and seem like an evolution of a Strat. The shorter scale makes a hell of a difference. When I first played one years ago, I wasn’t expecting much because they weren’t popular, but I was amazed at how versatile it sounded. I bought a Johnny Marr Signature Jaguar almost a decade ago and I love that thing. I tend to reach for it once in a while as to not get too used to it, but I always find inspiration in it, write a new song or find a new sound from it. My Jazzmaster, though custom shop, sounds like one of my Strats on steroids and it’s tragically underplayed, as I find Strats to be better at demonstrating their sound.
@AudiomoMusic

However, I was humbled… what an awesome demo!!! It’s more or less the 101 of how it should be done. Great playing, great chord progressions, great tones, great variety and great narration. I actually love being proved wrong… at least unless I ran my mouth before getting schooled 🙄. My observation was that I preferred the JM which is in line with my personal observations as well… IMHO they just seem easier to work with. Then again I realized that noone in an audience would care when hearing either in a band mix. Just one reflection… how did you dial in the sound? Did you use either of the guitars to set the baseline? Since I personally favor the Jm I would probably have used it thereby skewing the comparison in its favor… Anyway, great video! The amp is way more important for nailing that tone, either of these guitars will manage fine for that and have

I saw you listed the jag for sale. You’re a bad man. I really love that color, but have a Johnny Marr jag and don’t “need” another guitar. Temptation is a bitch.

It was a tough call on this one, but with what will be seen this weekend and my heart set on a 61 VOS ES335 I just sold the mesa, the marshall, 2 other guitars, and listed the jag AND the goddess.. More might be getting listed soon too. If you want that jag ill give you a better price on the site than on reverb just shoot me an email

I have both… they are adept at different things and depending upon music style everyone would benefit from having both I do play my Jag more, but i love both.

I agree they are definitely different enough to justify both - I find they actually compliment each other well in the same song. I also prefer the Jaguar but I also love both
