I have no idea how I missed these episodes. I’m 64 now and I stopped at nothing to go fishing. I do pretty well. I must have been fishing 🎣 when these aired.
Straight 6 is a perfectly balanced engine. GM had a dynamite Straight 6 in their Holden (Australia) cars for many years. But you could have one of those 'detuned' to only 300bhp and still fly in that lightweight D-Type. Lovely to see a Classic replica in RHD.
Juan Manuel fangio did not cause the accident. Mike Hawthorne cut in front of Lance Macklin causing Macklin to swerve into the path of Levegh in his much faster Mercedes. The collision propelled Levegh's car upwards and into an earthen embankment and throwing the driver out, killing him. The momentum of the heavy components of the car carried them into the packed grandstand with terrible effect, and the wreck burst into flames. There was much debate over the apportioning of blame. The official inquiry held none of the drivers specifically responsible, and criticised the layout of the 30-year old track, which had not been designed for cars of this speed. Research before talking.
speaking as a lowrider owner who has run wire wheels for 10 years you don't need to run an inner tube, the black ring on the wheel is silicone which seals the spokes. the only time people run them is when a shop that doesn't know how to mount the wheels properly takes a chunk out of the seal
You should get the facts straight. It was not Juan Fangio who lost control of his Mercedes, it was Pierre Levegh that ended up going into the crowd. and the person who initiated the accident was Mike Hawthorn when he cut of Lance Macklin in the Austin Healey
Get your facts right, FFS. Fangio didn't crash at the 55 LeMans, it was Pierre Levegh. And the D wasn't in high demand at all, that's why they decided to make road cars out of the ones they couldn't get rid of. And it wasn't the most winning'est car ever by far, even your own American GT40 exclipses it before you step up to Porsche 917, 956 and 962 history. They even change Sports Car Racing rules to stop the GT40 winning.
FYI Fangio did not crash. At all. He continued on. It was Levegh that crashed, and was killed. Wow that took all of 30 seconds on the internet to get the correct version of what happened.
Pengajim: Thanks for posting this correction. It really bothered my to see the mistake. When dealing with a racing incindent this tragic the facts need to be accurate.
Can somebody help me who built the hot rod or where to get started on building one as is, in the "season 9, episode 11". The one behind the jaguar which is like cherry candy color. I am from the Philippines
The jag d type is absolutely the sexiest car ever its color didnt matter but made in left hand drive would be weird but I imagine still sexy just the same
Can someone help me out on the name or builder of the "short hot rod on the background". Thank you in advance... Planning to start a distributor of these kit cars, tools and equipment here in the Philippines.
Thank you Sir Olikat8 for your time to answer... How about the one on the right side, looks like a Ford T body, do you know the builder. Dreaming of building one here in the Philippines, and become a builder and distributor of Hot Rods
big error there ! it wasnt Fangio that crashed his Mercedes into the crowd!! it was Pierre Levegh! Fangio was instead one of the best drivers in racing history
just need to be short and low enough. (remember that there are to fit a gearbox too in there) and for most of us.... cheap and reliable enough. an old Packard, Olds or Pontiac straight 8 is just to big and way to old, BMW's newer prototype 8's is "good luck find one" and Alfa Romeo and Bugatti's old 8's are even older and as expensive as an real D-Type.
The black eye for Jag is that they didn't pull their cars after the tragedy like Mercedes did, and won the event. The event was not immediately cancelled because officials didn't think that they could get emergency vehicles out of the venue if all of the fans started to leave at the same time.
I am flabbergasted that you seem oblivious to one of the most written about accidents in motor racing history. Did nobody edit this video. It’s a pity Fangio, who died in 1995 ( just in case you didn’t know) is not around to sue you!! I’m afraid thatI switched off at that point, as I could not take it seriously and because you cannot pronounce the word aluminium . It is pronounced AL-U-MIN-IUM, not AL- U- MIN- UM, thereby leaving out the last “I” in the word!
Steve Halverson basically. I get you have bills to pay but 7 minutes of tech and 23 minutes of commercials in a half hour show sucks. and the shows on spike TV are getting just as bad.
Hope you didn't use SU carbs! I've got a mk2 with an e type engine, 3 S U 8s, and a 3.8-litre engine. Goes OK, I'd love a D TYPE, but with Steve Mc Queens set up, that yank had great taste and knew how to drive!
