Oh no! The de-greaser was WAY too harsh. That’s for de-greasing oily residue of engine parts. There was no grease on the engine plastics, so all they would need is a cloth and a bucket of water with car wash shampoo. Wipe and ring out, wipe and ring out. Then finish with a plastic or general detailer spray. Still it was brave to post up your mistakes for the sake of others.

Omg, using a hose in there just gave me a heart attack. So many issues on F Types with water getting into the spark plugs, injector leads etc. Hand clean all the time, to much electronics in there.

Not sure if anyone’s still replying to this thread……but Do I really need the plastic engine cover? TBH I’ve always hated them. I never understood the manufacturers fashion for covering beautiful engineering with swathes of cheap looking plastic. I know that the separate small covers beneath the bonnet vents have a purpose. I’d leave those in place. But should I worry about negative effects of just removing the main engine cover? (I’d not throw it in a skip. Obviously I’d keep it for when I sell the car)

Hi I hate how cheap Jaguar made the under bonnet look. You would think they could spend a few dollars to make it look good like the Japanese or Germans. What i did is I had the engine covers hydro dipped and it looks great since carbon fiber is not available for the supercharged V8.

Just remove the plastic engine cover, the engine block looks great without it 👍

You can get those Edding fibre tipped permanent paint pens for about £5 and go back over the engine cover Jaguar's to get them back. Make sure to get the pen working outside of the engine bay first. I've resisted using any water when cleaning my Sportbrake's engine bay. A.P.C. spays, brushes, wipes & old microfiber clothes have seen me well so far.

why didn't u just use a sponge and fairy liquid. that's all thsts needed. touch in the logo with a touch up pen easy.😅

The washing engine bay debate always makes me laugh… these are not 1970’s cars with no water proofing, HT cables, dizzy caps and points… the electrics and electronics are sealed and water proof… why do people have a hard time understanding this… do they not drive in the rain… at 70 mph on the motorway in torrential rain or going through deep water nothing happens by design unless you exceed the wading depth but this has nothing to do with electronics 😂
@Berley_1234

yea but water getting down into the engine bay thru those vents will RUST the SUPERCHARGER in place -proven fact. then when you have a coolant leak, which most of the eventually do have, then the supercharger will be a BITCH to get off

After an engine hose down, use a leave blower; all water is gone in minutes.

Why is my mechanic having such a hard time getting my #5/6 injector out. And what can he do to free it. He's tried a solution and special tool. Still seized!

How did your putting that mirror-matching vinyl on the under-the-hood Jaguar lettering work out with the heat of the engine?
@MrGB_UK

It seems to be fine so far. It's been on there a fair while and for a few thousand miles. I imagine it would have come off by now if it was going to be an issue. Thanks!

One of my long time plastic and vinyl cleaner and moisturizers is Murphy oil soap. It has no harsh chemical solvents that will dissolve the plastic or remove the ink from labels or paints from plastics, plus it smells good. The only down side is that it requires elbow lube, I prefer a good "cold beer". As for jet/power washing... Everyone thinks that just because it's a post 1970's car or motorcycle that your good to go with the magic wand, that it won't penetrate electrical connectors or engine gaskets, It will do both if your not careful! Dielectric grease will dry out over time compromising the seal and allowing corrosion at the contact point. I have seen pressure washers cut strait thru gaskets and cause both oil leaks and water to get into engine oil systems. P.S. Liking the channel so far.

Eeeek! Degreaser in the engine bay .... bold move, if you'd had an oil leak that had spread about a bit, then maybe but not for just general road grime. Be interesting to see how the wrap holds up to the heat off the SC. We might know by next Saturday! If it lifts, you could always get some high temp paint and stencil it in.

Exactly same thinh happened to my F-type first time I detailed the engine bay on the first week of ownership! Just removed it completly and now I look at it like a weight saving special version of the F-type :D

Great solution. I hope that vinyl stays attached because it's a really cool touch. It's perfectly safe to use a pressure washer on the engine bay on modern cars. It's no different to driving in heavy rain, arguably less invasive. You could even pre-treat with a foam cannon if you wanted, and then agitate and rinse. But next time use an APC diluted maybe 4 or 5 to 1. Same results, won't strip paint. Beautiful car btw.

Great video and nice clean job. Myself I just use ACF 50. I have learned from years of using on my motorcycles how good it is at protection and can be used on electrical high temp areas also. I spray the bonnet bolts and mechanisms and so far so good. Keeps the plastics looking shiny too . Keep up the great videos mate.

If you remove the plastic covers where the bonnet locks both sides , you’ll find loads of leaves and vegetation gathered down there , can’t get a hand in so I used the slim nozzle from the hoover 👍
@timeservices697

Not sure what you are really going to gain from having a very clean engine bay, just protect the plastics, no need to jet wash etc, it finds itself into electrics casings etc, each to their I guess , I also I removed the plastic engine cover, it does nothing but hide the engine block, the engine looks far better without it 🤔

Improvise and adapt, love the light bulb moment by painting the engine cover bronze to go with the outside. Every cloud has a sliver lining.

It seems the degreaser has dried out the engine cover. Might be worth using Gtechniq C4 on that to bring it back.

I basically have hand washed mine, with turtle wax products. I have the K4 Karcher also but have refrained from using on engine bay, for the same reasons, even though I have seen people do it to their F Type. As for the paint on the cover, are there any solvents listed in your cleaning products? Strange for the paint to come off like that even though you were using a drill, but I don't know how stiff the bristles were. I'd use a softer bristled brush perhaps. But you pain is our gain :) Hoping to see you on the first. Bang on with the 17K cost btw!

Im not certain on the chemical makeup of the cleaner tbh. I’ll check the bottle when I’m in the garage next. The cost of a new engine is just eye watering! Definitely not worth the risk!

@@MrGB_UK Isn't it basically a Ford engine? I have a 2016 3.0 F-Type manual transmission car in the US. The battery died after a short period of low battery warnings, I'm currently (see what I did there?) trying to recharge it enough to get the trunk open so I can replace it, not having much success to date.

Just subbed mate after watching a few of your videos. I'm really thinking of getting one of these. I wanted the Aston Martin Vantage but after finding out about that 5.0 Supercharged V8, I am now doing all the RU-vid research lol. Any advice? Thanks mate, luv the videos by the way.
@MrGB_UK
@MrGB_UK Год назад
Thanks for the sub and for dropping a comment. I had exactly this journey. I settled on the F Type in the end for a few reasons 1) the soundtrack and performance in my opinion is far in advance of the Aston 2) running costs are a lot lower as Jaguar is a mainstream brand. You don’t have Aston tax on parts and labour 3) I felt the F type had aged better. The Aston is starting to show its age (assuming you are looking at a pre-2013 vantage?)
@bravo20ghost27
@bravo20ghost27 Год назад
@@MrGB_UK okay, that is exactly where I currently am to be honest. I have always liked the Vantage but I would want a 2013+ and when comparing the cost and bang for buck, it is seeming like a no brained at this point lol. I agree with you, the Jag takes it. Thanks for your advice/opinion, it was very well received.

I am looking at the same comparison here in Australia. The Vantage gear box is my main concern and when compared with the 8 speed ZF it was a no brainer, also the tech upgrade with a 2019 F Type along with the cheaper parts I'm starting to lean more towards the Jag

Bought the Auto Finesse Dressle, after cleaning my engine bay by hand predominantly with hot water and degreaser sprayed onto a cloth. The Dressle I have to say for bringing back faded stained black plastic including the engine cover, scuttle etc was hopeless. Used Halfords Back to Black wiped on with a microfibre cloth, left to thoroughly dry then re-coat. Far superior job !!
