In this week’s video I finally get my hands on a MY21 I Pace HSE for a fairly long period of time. I get to try it out thoroughly and give it a review, comparing it directly with my MY19 First Edition. So what’s new in the IPace, and are there any areas where the old model is better? Join me and find out if it’s worth an upgrade…
*NB This is a re-released version which was corrected after Martin Pitt kindly pointed out that I had made a mistake in the editing. Thanks Martin if you see this!

Totally agree Alex, I would not change my MY19 First Edition for a new model yet. But the changes I liked when I was loaned a MY21 was the improved auto brake hold, great for the one pedal driving. The clearview mirror with the camera is very good as is the washer on the reversing camera. Also I like the cable release button on the charging socket, so you don't interrupt the AC charging if you dare to unlock and open a door while charging. If the clearview mirror and cable release button could be retro fitted I would pay for them. Good review Cheers.

Hi and thanks. Yes, I didn’t mention the charging cable release. I also liked that feature. Pity I couldn’t try out the clearview mirror but the car didn’t have it sadly. I’ve spent more time with the car since recording and I still love it. Pivi Pro is growing on me, and the satnav is nice. The predicted SOC in the satnav seems super accurate now. If it had the cruise steer assist I’d probably love it. That just seems like a big loss to me. But I’m told next year’s car will have it back again so that feels like a winner to me! I expect anyone ordering now would be receiving an MY22 so fingers crossed cruise steer is back! Still happy with my FE though!

First, great job! Very nice comprehensive and honest rendering. I really do agree with your apprehension about the newer model - maybe if range boosted or ........ Would like the rear view camera/mirror for sure in my '20 but would not want to give up media & phone in bottom video/touchscreen as my go to since the steering media does not always work with different apps. I use the snot out of that for convenience even though available on steering and middle screen. Find that I never much use the climate controls on small screen unless I am reigniting AC due to electrical gremlins; updates have lessened the need.
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 2 года назад
Thanks! Yes I agree with you on all those points. I do like the MY21 though. The more time I spent with it the more I liked it. Not everything, but still a great car. The new SatNav software is nice with some good improvements to functionality. But that steer assist would bother me. And I really do use that media display on the lower touch screen all the time.

Alex good honest review. Clear-sight rear view is good and also the rear camera wash . The open charge flap warning is brilliant as is the cable unlock button. To get near to the FE edition spec requires a lot of extras that push the list price near to 85k. The current interest free option is very helpful for finance packages.
@AbuDhabiDude

Thanks. Yes, I’d have really liked to try out the mirror but sadly it wasn’t on the car. Agree about the charge flap warning and cable unlock button. Great additions. And the improved auto hold is a big plus too.

When I borrowed a 21model I noticed an improvement in the adaptive speed limiter software. When going from say 30mph to 50mph there is no longer a delay in the change of speed. In the FE you have to press the resume button if you wish to get to the higher speed quickly. It feels much more natural now.. This is a feature I use a lot round town.
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 3 года назад
That’s God to know. I didn’t test out the adaptive speed limiter actually. One thing I noticed is that the speed limit recognition system wrongly detected one road near me which mine never does. It is a 60 limit. My car says 60 all the way but the new one says a section of it is a 40 limit. Minor glitch but no idea why it does that.

Hi, I stumbled on your video late last night. :-) Excellent stuff with lots of info. So much info that I will watch it again today. I am planning on buying a used I-Pace , probably a well specced 2019 or 2020 model. As I have just started looking I find it hard to sort out all the options that relates to which model. Is there a web site where I can find such info? Where can I find info on different updates? When buying a used I-Pace, when will the car`s milage be a concern for future problems? Lastly, can you give me a recommendation on a specific model, and which to avoid? :-) Thank you for your excellent work. PS: I have just seen this video. I will look at your other work with high interest. :-)

I've found the Auto speed limit has changed in the MY21 as now you have to reset the added mph each time a road sign changes the speed limit whereas the MY20 kept the setting through the road sign changes. The 21 car slows down/speeds up much better at sign changes whereas the 20 just sounds a warning when over the limit and defaults to a slow acceleration when speeding up. Well done with the review and I agree about the lack of "live" relative camera view of front wheel and kerb.
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 3 года назад
That’s interesting to know. Hadn’t noticed that one. Not sure if you knew it but on the MY20 if you press the “resume” button on the steering wheel it cancels the slow acceleration. Bit late for you now though!

@@AbuDhabiDude thanks for the reply...... not too late I still have the MY20 iPace FE but have a 21 loaner hse as my car has been in for repair for 10 weeks! I fully agree there is no point in trading up to a new one especially as the Pivi infotainment doesn't seem to offer much of an improvement.

Thanks for the great review. I consider to buy I pace for while now because of the look and driving dynamics of the car. But now I set it back because I didn’t know the new I pace has no steering assist until I saw this video. This is deal breaker for me actually because I use it a lot on the highways. Either I’d go for 2019-2020 models or have to wait next models and hoping to come back. I really didn’t understand why jaguar took it away when the other cars going towards more autonomous.
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 2 года назад
Hi there. It’s only the MY21 car which lost steering assist. It was brought back in MY22 so it is available on the current I-Pace (depending on the spec & options you choose).

Thanks for the video, I've learnt a lot from your videos. Couple of questions, there seems to be an Auto Brake Hold setting on the Pivi Pro but I cant find a setting on my MY19, like yours it holds uphill but not downhill. But is there a setting somewhere? Also you mention that you treat your leather seats, can I ask what you use? Thanks
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 3 года назад
Hi Andrew. Apologies for the late reply. In MY19 and 20, the auto hold is enabled when creep mode is off. For leather care I use a product called “colourlock” which I buy from the Ultimate Finish website. They do one for old leather and one for new. I’ve been using the new leather one.

I'll answer your hypothetical question, would I change my I-Pace for a 21. Nope. External design is bang on and just maybe needs a tip, tuck etc to fresh it up. Interior needs a more modern user experience comparable at least to lower classes of cars which already are offering more than JLR. Technology levels need moving on, which I suspect will come maybe year 23 or 24. If I was looking today, my personal choice would be EQS and that pains me. Thankfully I still have 2 years before I plan to have that thought process concerns.
@AbuDhabiDude

All good points and I agree that 23 (maybe 24) will see a bigger refresh. Like you, I don’t have any plans to change my car for at least 2 years (probably more). I like to buy something nice and keep it for a while.

@andrewhowe4266
@andrewhowe4266 3 года назад
It seems a very marginal step forward. I didn’t warm to Pivi Pro in my sister’s Velar. I think it looks more modern, but harder for my old eyes to read in my driving specs. Talking of steps forward, does auto hold work on downhills yet?
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 3 года назад
Hi. Yes it’s very much an evolution not a revolution. I have grown to like it (Pivi) more as my long term test has continued. And yes, Auto Hold does now work both uphill and downhill! And you also get a light on the dashboard to show you it has activated. It’s a real improvement on the old version of Auto Hold.

I’ve just ordered a new iPace (delayed due chip shortage) and it has lane keep assist and adaptive cruise with steering assist….is this not the same abilities as your cruise assist?
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 3 года назад
Sadly not. The LKA on the MY21 is the emergency LKA only. It stops you drifting from your lane but it doesn’t hold the car centred in the lane. However, if the car you have ordered is the MY22 version, then I’m hearing that it will have Cruise Steer Assist again. So check with your dealer that you are definitely getting an MY22. If so, you should be fine (but again I’d double check that with your dealer, maybe via email so you have a written confirmation just in case).
@simon_b_0014
@simon_b_0014 2 года назад
I’ve ordered my black edition HSE IPACE today, (arriving hopefully in December) my dealer assured me that the Adaptive Cruise with Steer assist does indeed keep you centered while following another vehicle using adaptive cruise control.
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 2 года назад
If it’s a MY22 (which a December delivery should be) then I’m told it will have a Cruise Steer Assist. But only had it by word of mouth, I haven’t seen it written down anywhere yet. I’d double check with your dealer because what he’s describing isn’t quite Cruise Steer Assist. The car will lock onto a vehicle in front and follow it, but only up to 37 mph. That’s not Cruise Steer Assist. That is part of the traffic Assist for stop/start traffic. Cruise Steer Assist doesn’t need a car in front to lock onto, just painted lane markings. So I’d double check that what he’s describing is what you expect. I’m sure it’s just that he hasn’t worded it well, but I’d definitely double check.

@@simon_b_0014 I’ve had mine on order since May and I was told today that it might arrive in November. But the most disappointing thing is that all new i-Pace’s will not be delivered with HUD due to chip shortages. The dealer says that JLR just told them this week and they don’t expect HUD in i-Pace for at least 12 to 24 months, and probably never ever as standard. I’m a bit pissed off TBH.

I have a 2019 HSE Granted the touchpro duo is slow, but I like the UI better other than the Pivi. LKA is on every single time on the highway. I require it I don't like the steering wheel in the 21. It's for the 2 tone leather which isn't an option on the ipace
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 3 года назад
Yes I’d agree with that. I didn’t mind the steering wheel though. It felt nice and it makes sense to lose the second phone button. It was a little unnecessary to be honest. These things are very personal taste of course, but for me the steering wheel was good. Still love my FE though!

He’s been road tripping in I-Paces and a whole range of EVs for years. Also take a look at A Better Route Planner. People have done it for sure, and it’s entirely feasible. You just need to prepare in advance plan your journey. But I would certainly go anywhere in mine.

Great car, dissapointed it doesn't have 150kw charging. IMO all new EVs should have at least that. Especially ones that start at 65k. Apart from my impatience, these cars will be on the road for 10 years , by then all new cars will be EV and the charging network will be clogged up by Slow charging EVs that weren't fast even when new , the quicker people can charge the less chargers are needed . If I had the money the ipace would still be the car I would have .
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 3 года назад
Yes, faster charging and a better charge curve would be a huge win. But that always was unlikely for a mild mid-life refresh to be honest. I’m expecting a big step up in charging for the next big refresh though, probably in MY23 (or maybe 24).
@PabloTBrave
@PabloTBrave 3 года назад
@@AbuDhabiDude unfortunately you are probably right but the competition and even some cheaper cars have faster charging already
@AbuDhabiDude
@AbuDhabiDude 3 года назад
I do agree but it’s an unfortunate side effect (I feel) of Jaguar being early to the EV party amongst the mainstream auto companies. I think LG were reluctant to allow them to push it too far and Jaguar themselves didn’t want to end up with a reputational hit by charging too hard and degrading too quickly. So I think we were kind of stuck with that and other companies have gained from Jaguar’s early data, allowing them to push harder earlier. As with all these things, technological advantages tend to “seesaw” as each company improves.
