I can't speak for the jag but I drove a V90 for a week here in the UK, it was a nice place to be, comfy, direct and did everything i could ask of it. I disagree with the tester saying it was a fun drive though, I found it completely un-involving to drive, it lacked emotion of any kind, but then it was never designed to be. If you want an efficient day to day tool for the family i'd recommend it, it's full of cool safety tech too. But if you enjoy a spirited drive look elsewhere.

Sorry, but how can you compare two Sation wagons on how they drive, sportiness and their luxury feel only. If these are the main criteria then there is little need to buy a station wagon over a sedan or a big 4 door coupe. Not a single comparison on practicality, roominess and what is included in the versions of the two cars. I even like the headline of this Video "you Don´t need An SUV" - But the video does not hold a single line, argument or mention why one would or should choose a Station Wagon over an SUV. This is about the most superficial Car vs Car review I have seen for quite a while and the credit for most information must go to to the intro car informations graphics.

That is exactly true- I need an SUV because I want to drive light off road when some (> 20 cm) ground clearance is needed. Some people do accept this simple fact-some have no idea....SUV is all about flexibility of different applications - it is not about real sport!

I'm a huge Volvo fan and owned an XC70 T6 (real 6 cylinder) in the past. The new Volvo is nice looking but it has less interior space than my old XC70 T6 which makes no sense, people who buy a wagon need space. Also, I totally disagree with Volvo's strategy of only offering 4 cylinder engines no matter the out put. A 4 cylinder will never match a 6 cylinder in refinement or performance. Finally, No way in hell I'm paying $60K plus for a car with a 4 cylinder engine, no matter how many turbo's/super chargers you strap to it! Jag would be my choice but long term I'd be concerned about durability and build quality.

I drive a Volvo V90 wagon and its a great car. I have lots of fun driving it and looks great in all black. My favorite features are Massage seats, Autopilot (pilot assist), Bowers & Wilkins and Android Auto!

They are both winners in my eyes, but if I were to choose one, then the Volvo would be my choice, looks better, more economical by 20% so cheaper to run too, the interior is superior as well, not to say the Jag is bad, no, it's very classy too, but the Scandinavian design wins me over !! for those wanting even more power, you can always go for the T8 with 407 bhp, that would see off the Jag no problem.
@stuco81
@stuco81 6 лет назад
And then the Jaguar with the V8 supercharger would see off the Volvo no problem. Dont get me wrong, I love Volvo's. But dynamically, between a Jag and a Volvo, there's no competition. Jaguar every time.

It is difficult to justify for the XF Sportbrake higher sticker price (no apple car play, no android car play, cheap materials, poor mpg, sub par engines, sluggish infotainment). Ian Callum does a decent job with the design but Jaguar needs to step back and tweak lot of different things to bring it back to competition. Jaguar seriously need to work on their pricing and if they want to be called a premium brand they should use high end material (leather, wood) to make the cabin look much better. You cannot compete with merc, bmw and audi with substandard materials. Another thing, they might have got a little better with reliability from where they were under FORD but it still needs lot of other detailing to gain customer confidence. People whoever wants to buy a Jaguar, the first question they ask before anything else is how reliable is Jaguar even though with a 5 yr/60 K warranty Having said that even though the Volvo looks intriguing, I would never buy a Chinese-designed automatic transmission
@rossagge
@rossagge 6 лет назад
The Sportbrake is definitely a nice car, but the V90 is just much nicer to look at, not as busy on the inside and you get that Volvo safety and overall better track record of reliability. If I'm going to spend, and I eventually plan to, this much money on an wagon, this is what I look at. Also, the V90 wasn't tested with the Polestar option. Yeah it's only 14hp gain as well as torque, but it's something and that makes it a winner for me as well. Btw, just looked a Sportbrake today, JLR salesmen snobby as hell. Volvo salesmen gave me the royal treatment. Maybe your local dealerships differ, but man, what let down from JLR!
@chrwl007

It definitely depends on the dealership. My local Jaguar dealership almost rolls out the red carpet for you, and they have salespeople who are passionate, not snobby in the least.
@rossagge

crwl007 Good to hear not all are like that. There we're literally 5 salesmen standing in the showroom doing nothing. I had to approach one to ask about a diesel Discovery, since we are looking for an SUV as well. Didn't seem interested in showing me one. Said it was on his overflow lot and left it at that. Oh he did say its just like the Si6 model, in which I replied except for the "diesel engine" and fuel and towing...Anyway. Dealership is in Chantilly VA. Had the same experience at Land Rover of Austin, TX. Despite this I have, up until recently, owned an 03 Disco II and an 08 Range Rover Sport SC. Not sure what the disconnect is between dealerships other than location and demographics I guess. Glad you've had good experiences at your's. :)

A fair conclussion. I can't help but laugh at people including some of the testers that picks only sportier driving (Jaguar) over the whole package (Volvo). The Jaguar is more fun to drive, but not that far ahead while the Volvo is far ahead on most other things which to sum it up makes the Volvo a way better car in the segment and the uncomparably better value for the money.

Both of these cars, like most modern cars in this category, are strictly short-term lease/company cars - too much technology to go wrong after three years. The same applies to all Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes-Benzs. Just look at an old Lexus LS, which are the best built cars, and you will see that all the techy stuff is out of date and/or broken.

Or Polestar Optimized? Makes a difference for sure - now as far as vs SUV... We have both the V90 and XC90 - For long travels the V90 is fine but the XC90 gets the nod - The V90 is low and rubs sometimes - but that's what you expect with that sportiness. In terms of space the XC90 has more height but both have a lot of room. I love both - and yes both are Polestar Optimized. I considered the Jag but the interior has the luxury of a Genesis - not bad but not for me.

Where did y'all get your interior volume specs data for the Volvo from? Every source I've read says there are barely 55 ft.^3 of interior volume with the seats folded down and only 19.8 ft.^3 behind the rear seat. This is KIA Soul type space, which isn't horrible, but not competitive with other mid sized wagons. For that reason, I'm not sold on the actual practicality of the Volvo, even though I love Volvo wagons.

The reason why wagons don’t sell well is because automakers only let you buy them in these fully loaded, super fast trims. The new Volvo v40 wagon, a4 allroad and bmw 3 series wagon are the only somewhat affordable wagons you can buy. But you can get bigger SUVs cheaper then these wagons so it’s a strange thing. Jaguar needs an xe wagon to really dig into us sales, because the xf while beautiful is just sooooooo expensive but what jaguar isn’t 😂 who am I kidding.
@BJJPaulos74
@BJJPaulos74 4 года назад
Don't know where you live, I think the US but in the UK and all over Europe you can buy cheapish wagons or estates as we call them and you can buy say BMW's, Jag's, Audi's from far lower specs than their AMG, RS, M power or the R-S range. The US market is very different from over here. Just looking at the drop-down menu it claims the Jag has a base price of 70 grand, over here it's 37 grand, so basically they're only selling that top model in the US. That Volvo tested costs $68,290 but you can get lower models since the Base Price is $49,950 over in the US. I guess it's because over in the US the truck market is absolutely huge, with the F150 being the best selling motor for years and also the SUV market is as well, not enough room it seems for all the wagons as you say available across most of the world. There are loads of others such as- below and all have cheaper models and top models. Volkswagen Golf Estate Volvo. V60. A6 Avant. Skoda. Octavia Estate. Ford. Focus Estate. ... BMW 3 Series Touring. ... Toyota Corolla Touring Sports. ... Merc E-Class Estate. Volkswagen Passat Estate Skoda Superb

Volvo re-invented itself, and its new modular drive train is just the first step towards a fully hybrid line of vehicles, which in turn will morph into a line of fully electric vehicles. Jaguar's drive train may provide some exciting moments, but it's a conventional one. So you're comparing apples and oranges and in that sense, your test has little value as a comparison. You failed miserably in the more important area of comparing the practical features of two wagons. Why bother when you're not even touching such things as interior volume of the cargo areas with the rear seats folded and lift height to the cargo floor. How about the ease, speed and number of steps to create the cargo area by folding the seats; not to mention how comfortable are the rear seats (important in vehicles that could compromise comfort over the need to fold). 4 out of 10 score.

May be as a station wagon the Volvo is better suited, but really there's no one in his right frame of mind that would pick a Volvo ahead of a Jaguar in any other category sedans and suv's. I agree the Volvo looks more luxurious in the interior but that Jag drive is so much better. The Volvo according to consumer report findings have major issues with their infotainment screen. A lot of freezing and hanging that isn't sorted out with a routine turn off of the engine. From the new Jaguar F pace SVR and I pace i see Jaguar improving their interior quality and design very soon as well on other models in their range.

Jaguar drives so much better?! Prove or just repeated BS? Similar way the XC60 is stated by car magazines as more comfy than the BMW X3 and "less sporty" (if a SUV can be sporty at all...) but the real life tests showed just opposite! Moreover, practically majority of people will never drive such cars on a track and then Volvo is just better, providing more comfort, solid drive and that special feeling :)

It is possible, on a track! But then few people cares and for them (us) what matters is predictable behavior in a critical road situation and just comfort +some fun and this "some fun" can be delivered in spades by many modern cars including the V90 .

at least I agree on the Volvo poor reliability records....it is no longer the old good Volvo, robust and reliable . Will will see how durable they will be. Actually the same applies to Jag. See this interesting point of view on lux cars reliability or rather lack thereof: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r2H8Oqm1eQ4.html

You're silly, more people in their right mind will pick a Volvo after test driving both and not just trying to promote their favorite brand. Jaguars are infamously unreliable and the Volvo infotainment issue was fixed with an update. The jaguar interior in real life looks about ten years dated too. Also, go ahead and take a road trip and then admit to yourself that the Volvo seats blow away those awful Jaguar planks. I'm too smart to speak from a simple fanboy perspective; Volvo wins easily.

CTS-V wagon, RS6 Avant, E63 Wagon, all of them did it better. Albeit at a much higher price point, but better wagons.

If you want to drive a wagon and maintain a semblance of credibility it’s gotta be that Jag, surely?... Volva is nice and all, but I’d go with my ego and get the car that turns heads and gets 👍🏽 from strangers.

Your ass can't afford to buy one, the time you wasting on here talking crap, you need to take that time to figure out how to get your money up to buy that Jag.
