I've owned 3 Jaguars, a 1996 XJ6, 2006 XJL and now a 2011 XJL Supercharged and loved them all. I still own the 2011 XJL Supercharged. All of them had the smoothest ride quality and the luxuriousness of the 2011 XJL Supercharged is second to none. I've been in the BMW 750 and the large body Mercedes and they both didn't compare to the 2011 XJL Supercharged. I can admit that repairs on these can get a bit pricey, however, if you find the right mechanic (outside of the dealer), it's worth it. I feel and look like a million bucks (after taxes), when I'm behind the wheel....Jay Z wish he were me!!! I have the 8 cylinder engine with the supercharger and it will flat out FLY!!! I LOVE JAGUARS!!!!..ever since I was 14...49 now.
@@jazzyalex2011 at the dealer, just with an oil change, tune up and brakes, they quoted me at $2,200.00...I purchased my parts and went to a great mechanic I know(ASE Certified Mechanic)that's works on European cars and imports and he did the job for 500.00 parts cost me just over 400.00
I've just bought a late 2012 3.0ltr supercharged XJ portfolio with only 16000 miles on it. It's a new car. I haven't taken delivery of it yet but on the test drive I was blown away. I have an XF and the difference is massive. Can't wait to have it delivered
The XJL, just like the Audi A7, Mercedes S class, and Lexus LS, is another one of those vehicles that announce loudly that you have made it in life. Probably the best preowned value as well, as far as premium luxury brands are concerned. Providing reliability holds up.
I def agree with you there my friend. This certainly does scream money but like always, I can’t stress enough the need for a warranty on these vehicles haha. Good thing is these have depreciated to the point where normal people can afford it even with a warranty
@@MeynMotorGroup I tend to put alot of faith in Consumer Reports when it comes to vehicle reliability. Especially the current rankings that shows Mazda 2nd only to Lexus. Yet they still can't get the sales numbers they deserve.
The engine on my 2014 Jaguar XJL died at 126K miles. (all regular maintenance performed meticulously). The the dealership offered me a new engine for $25,000. I spent over $13,000 in repairs and maintenance in the three years I had this car. Now I have a 4100 pound paperweight in my driveway.
Yea they can be pricy to own out of warranty and does have its issue. I’ve owned one and loved it until the end but it did worry me often owning it and definitely was the best looking, most comfortable car though
Hello, I have a 2013 XJL Jaguar 3.0 AWD, Luna Grey (Maine). Let's get the negatives out of the way; My CD player cannot eject the disc. I have a low Coolant warning that is false. Now on to what I love about it, you're surrounded by leather and wood; When I see these new cars, there's a lot of plastic. Another thing, the 'Dynamic' mode really helps the car get up quickly, especially on ramps. Heating and cooling on all 4 seats. Also rare, there are very low numbers of Jaguars on the road in Maine, I take care of my car better than my Condo. Oil changes, interior cleaning, Car wash 3 times a month at least. I love my Jaguar. It's not appealing to everyone, but it reflects my personality well.
Thanks again for another review. I also have a soft spot for soft-riding luxury sedans, and this is clearly the driver's car, whereas the S-Class and 7-series are the chauffeur's cars. I'm interested in more reviews of similar cars. I'll be waiting patiently for a W222 S-Class review to be uploaded.
I own a 2004 Jaguar XJ8. I love it. Even some of the gutsy Mercedes cars built from the late 90's-on that would get my eye, even if they're a little faster (like my dad's '03 E500), I have no regrets about choosing my Jaguar over any one of them. And 7-Series BMWs from 2002-on I've never cared for, good thing because I've heard too many of them are problematic. I've enjoyed sharing my experience with my Jag with views who had MBs that have had been nothing but problematic until they replaced them with a Lexus. Every one of them said that I basically should have my head re-examined for going to a Jag. It doesn't surprise me. But it somehow doesn't really bother me either. They've had good reliability from 2003-on, at least a majority of them including S-Types. I've talked to owners of them. To me, the Jags from the late 90's up to about 2009 have been about the only car that could ever replace any nice old '77-'85 mid-size Mercedes Diesel sedan, a different company from a different country (England). I wouldn't give an Indian co. like Ta Ta any credit for actually making the Jags any better. Just because they had ownership doesn't mean they had anything to do with Jaguar directly. Jaguar would still say "your not putting any of that sh** on our stuff" to whoever had ownership of them such as Ta Ta.
The 5 litre versions of these things gi through motors too often. I believe it's a timing chain fault that leads to motor jumping timing and components crashing into each other. But man oh man, I do love these things. I have a 17 Fpace Rsport 25t, bought it new, has 60k kms on it, Canadian winters etc. Been very very reliable. Only fault it had was losing coolant, and that was a 1 day free fix. The cooler was leaking or something. Honestly I see a few XJL portfolio 5L V8 cars on sale around my area. One has 200k kms on it, super mint condition but blown motor. Asking 5.5k. It's so tempting to source a motor, swap it in & have a minty jag for less than 10k all in. Decisions.... decisions....... 🙈
Excellent video, thank you. I am in negotiations now for a 2014 XJL, my dream car, with 102k on the odometer. Was very hesitant on signing but this video has helped a great deal, thanks again.
Don't be fooled Guys , even in best case scenario these are still very expensive to maintain even if you're doing the work yourself.... due to plastic coolant system parts there is no way in hell you're getting to 100k without doing the Coolant outlet pipes , water pump , thermostat and rear coolant manifold...(requires removal of supercharger) . Upper timing covers are prone to leaking, headliners sag, rubber buttons get really, sticky both engine mounts and trans mount go bad and leak. Hard resets are your best friend for odd interior electrical issues. Not a good vehicle for first time DIY mechanics, Beautiful when found in great condition but could very easily be a nightmare on a budget.. Good luck! 🤘
I purchased a 2017 from a friend after taking a ride in the back seat to an event. You feel like the Prime Minister of England being chauffeured around in the back. I have a few minor complaints. My 2016 Ford Taurus SHO actually had more comfortable seats and those seats fully reclined for naps on road trips. Also, the Taurus SHO was bullet proof, no issues. This car has had a few issues. I replaced the water pump and some lines attached to the pump at great expense, over $3000. The car only has 70,000 miles. Oil changes and transmission oil changes are more expensive too, but you should expect that with this premium luxury car. I really love the way this car drives and it is very fast. It is also smooth as silk at high speeds. These cars are a bargain when purchased used due to the massive depreciation. I really enjoy this car and love taking it on road trips. In the winter I put winter tires on and that along with the awd make it a great winter car in Michigan. I bought it so cheap that I can drive it year round and enjoy it and not care if the paint is perfect. I recommend these cars as long as you have money and another car to drive when you need to put it in the shop. Repairs aren't cheap and you have to expect that when something goes it will be expensive to fix.
Kraypee Mallari , as long as you get an extra warranty on it. They have cooling and AC problems. For the extra warranty I suggest you getting a quote from J&M. Take care and good luck.
Great video man! I am looking at a 2017 XJ L Portfolio with 45k miles for 35k at CARMAX. I would go with the 5 year full warranty for 125k mile coverage. Definently better than the Volvo junk on the market with there poor engine and transmission performance and bottom of the barrel reliablility.
I'm sorry, I own a Volvo for 7 years now, a 2005 V70 5 cylinder diesel and it has never let me down, not once! By the way, I don't see the link between Volvo and Jaguar, completely different brands and completely different models of cars. Volvo does family estates and saloons while Jaguar does luxury sedans and large luxury sedans and luxury coupé's.
Beautiful car. I have a 10 LS 460. Looks similar inside. A 10 year old car and Lexus is replacing my dash, glovebox door, leather console, trim around the whole dash and all four door panels for free. All because my drivers door is cracking on the arm rest. That's amazing to me. I'm now a lifetime Lexus fan. No other car company would think of doing that to a 10 year old car.
Yea I’ve heard of Lexus doing that for other people as well it truly is unheard of from a luxury car manufacturer to do that. Lexus has the best dealer experience by far. Speaking of lexus, I am posting the LS400 video today actually in half an hour or so haha. Thanks again for stopping by Mark
just by 2016 xjl with 50k miles on it. i’m audi guy as i have a6 3.0 before. Reason i bought xjl is that it’s come with superchaged as i had before audi A6. Like 👍 your review.
I’ve test driven one of these -one thing that really bugged me was that the sun reflects of all that interior chrome and hits you in the eyes. Not sure if you noticed that .
Haha yea I did but that usually doesn't bother me but is a good point to bring up as it does bother a lot of people similar to the chrysler use of Chrome that also made a lot of people mad
Yes I know what you mean haha would really make the inside pop. Def still love this car very unique look to it. Thanks again my friend for stopping by!
Can anyone explain what a tune up on a vehicle is? I have owned Japanese vehicles for 24 years, all I did was engine, transmission. Brake, power steering oil changes, brake pad/rotor replacement, tire changes, and at around 120k spark plug replacement. I have owned 4 different Japanese vehicles.
Idk lol maybe something expensive happened but I wouldn't know not my car. I would only suggest getting this with a warranty and thankfully thr person who bought this did get a warranty
If you are doing a review of the car "100k later" then we really want to know how the car has stood up to being driven for 100k. Does it all work, does it feel worn? How is is say compared to an E Class after the same miles. You are just doing a new car review for an old car, we know how big the car is and what it had when new.
@@MeynMotorGroup The only thing you say about how it held up is "it has aged a lot better than expected" right at the end, that is it! no examples and not a word about the condition of the car having been driven for 90k miles. I do admit I did not watch the whole thing, managed 3 mins and then tried to skip through you going on about how long the car is and all the spec of the car, and tried to find where you talk about the condition. Fact is you don't. It is a pointless review as we can look at dozens from when the car was new already. We came to see how it is after some use!
To be completely honest I have owed 2 Jaguar in my life. Why would you waste your time and and money on a brand who is still searching for an identity. Probably won’t be around in 5 years.
Supercharged 5.0 over here 2011 ,with 35,k Driving it in 2021 and every1 thinks it’s brand new engine is barely broken in . I also can smoke 98% of cars on the road . M4 stock even bye bye .
Dope review, nice looking car but I'll be really concerned about the sticky buttons, and these cars are notorious for being unreliable, but I love your reviews👍
Jaguar XJ was engineered at Whitley Coventry by a dedicated Jag team before we all moved over to JLR Gaydon.. It may well have been the last pure Jag even. I engineered the hood.
I think the 2015 models onwards had different switchgear and the button coatings issue was solved. It’s not a problem unique to the Jaguar though I’ve heard the same problem on some BMW models that used the same coating. Reliability wise they are pretty good as long as they are looked after. There was an odd problem with the sunroof guides rusting, which was also solved on the 2015 cars. The metalwork is now covered by a nylon coating. Stops the guides from rubbing away the paint and exposing bare metal underneath.
@@Daylin821 I have one that I bought new in 2017 it has 56k miles on it now and I'll never sell it. perfect reliability, 5k oil changes, fluid changes every 30k, its flawless and still turns heads
I've heard that it's $300 for and oil change, my sister was in the market to buy a new car and she loved the Jag and was about to purchase, when the dealer told her the maintenance was very expensive. So she went with the Acura Sport.
I had an 03 S Type V8 it was one of the best cars I have ever owned. It never gave me any problems at all. At 15 year's old and 157k miles I sold it and bought a 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio Edition. It was the worst car I've ever had! I spent thousands of dollars for repairs on the car. Water pump, fuel pump twice, $2,000+ for a computer and then at 84k miles it blew a head gasket. I wouldn't have or recommend a Jaguar to any one! The new "Piano Black" interior is Tatas fancy word for Cheap Plastic! Tata has cheapened out on all the quality parts. They have become nothing more than a Tata in Jag drag! Avoid Jaguar like the Plague! It will kill your bank account quickly!
Very nice car... my only issue is that wood, it looks too much like the fake wood paneling from the 70’s! If it had some nice light wood there to contrast the black I think the interior would really pop.
If a car manufacturer uses fake veneer, then every car of that model will be identical. With Jaguar, just look at any two cars and you will never see the same veneer as each car interior is a matched set for that car. You cannot get identical veneers from car to car with the real veneer like you can with fake veneer. Most luxury cars with veneers have a gloss finish, customers prefer it.i@@MeynMotorGroup
I would choose 2018 Jaguar XJ for 2 reasons (1) One of the best audio system and internal acoustics in the entire car industry. Meridian is a DAC -digital to analog concerter- manufacturer. The sound quality in this car is amazing - better than Burmester, Mark Levinson or Bose. (2) XJ's 8 speed transmission has I think one of the best gear ratios. It revs at 1900 rpm when cruising at 90 mph. Because of this reason, gas milage is pretty impressive at high speeds.
@@gunesinan814 I was going to buy a Jag XJ a couple of years ago but they have alot of reliability issues. I am just too busy to keep going to the service department all the time. They are beautiful cars but I need quality as well.
Yea not many people care for Jags they are the forgotten luxury car. Granted it’s kind of a strange machine, it’s like the “drivers” luxury car it lacks many features which doesn’t bother me but 7 series is the second “drivers” luxury car but actually has a lot of features perhaps that’s why people love it I guess
Because the ones that were purchased are likely in the shop for repairs, you have a Jag dealer there because they likely make 70%+ of their money at the service bay.
👌🏾🔥💎Great videos! You Need to drive a Jag with a V8 supercharger! Hey PLEASE test a Jaguar XFR 2012 or 2013 fast lift model or even the 2010-11 XFR. ALL years have the 510 HP (550 for the XFR-S same engine different tune) 0-60 in 4.2 seconds can run up to 189 mph with this engine out the box(limited at 155 )… With a simple KN air filter(NOT INTAKE just filter), ECU tune, TCU tune and pulley upgrade it’s a 630-650 HP car..! And you’re blasting 0-60 in the 3.7 seconds range & the 1/4 mile in 11.6 seconds or better! The 2010-2012 have the ZF 6 speed auto transmission and the 2013 and up have the 8 speed ZF auto transmission. Both are amazing… If you can’t find the XFR at least test a V8 supercharged XJ. I’ve seen the v6 test and it’s a totally different beast with the 8cyl..! It has the same engine and similar times the XFR is a bit better in handling because of the size…
I have a 2011 XJL with 77K miles....runs nicely, excellent shape...Supercharger seems to be making a slight clicking/clacking noise...would it be ok to add 1 quart Marvel Mystery Oil to crankcase tp quiet it...thanks!
You should see what the REAL issue is before using additives. That is why Superchargers are crap, they always have issues. See what the real issue is or just replace it, or if you dont want to spend the money buy a repair kit for it. Its usually the pulley that creates that issue you are talking about.
Awww, I was hoping it'd be a V8. I'm still looking around for a 15-16 XJ; not sure if I want to go with the L. What are the worst problems that owners have had with this model?
Yea I was too lol but is what it is this might be a bit better on fuel. I would def suggest looking at Jaguar Forums. The forums in general is a great resource for reliability and maintenance stuff
There's not many major issues particularly with the V8. Although it does have a water pump failure issue. Check it's been changed. The other thing to note is the sunroof tends to make a popping noise over bumps. Check the car your interested in doesn't suffer from this
I was gonna pull the trigger on this car years ago, but the reliability on these beast are terrible. I do like how these British cars and most German cars don’t hold their resale value, so the prices be droppin like it’s hot.😎🔥
Haha yea I mean as car people, I know many of us myself included have all wanted to own vehicles like this and these vehicles are really only obtainable to most when they have this many miles haha. I would say pay up for a warranty and enjoy it for a bit til the warranty wears out if you want to drive something like this
I feel like it’s certainly better like it won’t leave you stranded on the side of the road but def not a Lexus by any means I would still consider a warranty heavily as maintenance and cost of owning it is still high
Pretty much every European car handles better than a Lexus. Lexus is just super reliable, comfortable and ages well. This has been the nature of cars since the turn of the millennium
Yea but some people value life and that’s worth more than money because this isn’t PlayStation 2 there are no reset buttons. People want to experience these vehicles and I don’t blame them more to life and cars than just Lexus
When I purchased my last car one of the cars I test drove was the XJL and LS460. The “smart” money would buy the LS460 because (generally) it being less expensive to fix if there’s any issues, and Lexus are known to be more reliable than most luxury cars. BUT, the Jag just feels special when I’m driving it. So, I got the Jag.
Hi everyone, i'm in need of help. I own a Jaguar XJ 2010 (X351 new model), i've made many repairs and maintenance on it, normal maintenance and used parts changed, but i still have a suspension fault alarm remaining. It occure when the car is cold by coming and disappearing time to time, but after 30 min driving this fault never show up again. I controled the height between the ground and the body in the axe of the wheel, on both rear wheels, i get 73.7cm on the left one, and 74.5cm on the right one (when the car is cold). Does anyone know what is the cause? I fear to go to the Jaguar dealer because i know they're insanely pricey. Thanks for your answers and sorry for my english^^
Its a crappy computer glitch, unless you are experiencing actual handling issues I would just ignore the fault. A lot of the times they are just false alarms, but have someone who specializes in Jags check it out just to make sure if you are concerned. Realistically though you could end up replacing a bunch of stuff and still have fault alarm.
@@jensz9360 i've booked an appointment with my Jag dealer on next 17th June, for a check up. Depending of the eventual fault codes, I'll do the repair with my favourite garage (lot cheaper and professional), or I'll drive with the fault alarm. Plus, I have to do my next oil changes in 2500km, it would be the occasion to proceed repairs.
@@Mr800vfr I agree, only fools go to the Stealership. The fact is independent shops have better level of service and they get to know your vehicle through servicing, dealerships dont care and you are just a number. I NEVER take mine to dealership unless warranty work or recall, other than that its independent specialists because they tend to know more as well.
I drove the A7 I thought it was a more refined vehicle but not as dynamic. I also drove the S4 Audi and same deal I really like how they feel on the road for sure but the lightness of this Jag for a large car was a cool feel. Would like to feature more Audi’s on the channel tho!
It is a real bargain to buy! As for maintenance, I don't really think It's cheap, but at the same time nowhere near as expensive as a Porsche or a BMW 750Li!! I sincerely hope to buy it one day
