Verione Amiga del gioco di guida della Core Design ( gli stessi di Chuck Rock 1 & 2) Jaguar Xj 220. Qui sono stati registrati solo i livelli England ed Italy .
Me too! For me it was beyond magic because the Jaguar XJ220 as a 10 year old was my absolute dream car, it was gorgeous. AND I had just gotten my Amiga 1200 which blew my mind but to be able to play this game; the game after my favourite car on the best computer I'd ever seen just totally blew my mind. I had to go on a 2 week holiday not long after getting the A1200 and this game and I couldn't stop myself from humming the music constantly. Probably the only time I've ever been on holiday and wanted to get home!
After the success of Lotus series, Jaguar was so jealous that it felt the need to release its own game, but it couldn't be as memorable as the Lotus series!
This was one of my favourite computer games of all time. It is so strange that when classic gaming is discussed, this game is never mentioned. For me, the soundtrack made it extra special, early 90s nostalgia!
Me too. Especially I loved running the first and second England (fog) track with the Moody Breeze soundtrack (from fist track in this video). It was such a soothing, hypnotizing experience running through those tracks with only music on. Hitting the straight full speed over the white line with fastest lap blinking with only the music pumping was magic! The rest of the soundtrack in this game at repairs and such were fantastic as well. Those blinking blue squares, such brilliance in details.
Salvatore Forenza actually back when this was released, this pretty much trounced the Lotus games (1&2) due to the addition of things like the track editor, but then Lotus 3 took on board a lot of things this game did. I think the only reason Lotus is remembered more is because there was more than one game in the series, where as this was a one off. I would always take this over Lotus unless I wanted to link up 2 Amigas and play 4 player, then it had to be Lotus 2 (I think it was #2 anyway).
Hmm, I had this, but it was dissapointing. I had Lotus 2 before this! And I think that ruined it for me? I hated the shape of the car, the Sprite, the way it looked. Im the same with some other Amiga games. I remember being so excited for ZOOL, after seeing it in magazines, it wsa being made out to be a BIG-DEAL! I was about 10 years old. I got it, and when the level 1 music started up I was like YEAH! But the game.. MEH, i thought it was just annoying? I only got to like stage 3, and I never played it any further. I tried it recently, and still dont like it.
I would say this version actually doesn't use any scaling. Only the Sega CD version uses real sprite scaling. But this just makes the Amiga even more impressive. It means whoever made it took time to basically hand draw many still sprites and then layer them just right to make them appear like they're scaling. The fence effect really has nice depth. Actual scaling like on Sega CD is smoother moving but also pixelated when the objects get too close or too far. As where the "fake scaling" done on Amiga never gets pixelated because they're actually individually drawn in all sizes.
One thing I love about the Amiga is the music. The music in the game, great. This is also a game I have not played, but I do remember playing Lotus Turbo Challange.
I finished the whole game 2player with a buddy, we played one country each week. My favourite country was Venezuela, love the waterfalls! This was a brilliant game
Nice memories..! This game has a pleasant atmosphere by the graphics and music. The control isn't so simple as in the Lotus serie, but when you realize the way, you can quickly get accustomed. It has a built in track editor, which is great. One of the best racing game on Amiga!
I really want to play a ton of Amiga games, but I don't know where to start - unlike video game consoles, which can be emulated through a cycle-accurate simulation, later models of the Amiga make it a full-blown PC. Getting all of its quirks is impossible through emulation, and using authentic Amiga hardware might be the only way to preserve the experience faithfully, unless there's an instruction-accurate virtual machine... How good is WinUAE? How does it stack up against other emulators? Is it cycle-exact? Sorry if my questions are weird, lol
I loved this game. The Jag xj220 came around at that perfect time for me...I was too young for the countach or the F40 and this car stood out. The amiga version is superior to the mega cd version too imo. One day I will drive an XJ220.
I remember my mate and I used to use the track editor and make tracks during the week and then race each other on the weekends. I always put the chevrons on the crest of a hill pointing the wrong way and he'd end up WAY off the track or in rocks or roadworks!🤣🤣🤣 He never learnt! .... good times .....
The music in this game was amazing, as was the fact that you could design your own tracks. It is just a shame that the main game was a bit too easy; even when you suffered something akin to a major collision it just was not punished heavily enough.
Interesting. This looks a lot more like Top Gear on the SNES than the Jaguar XJ220 on the Mega CD. Still an interesting version thou. Even the soundtrack is different.
I used to play this so much that some days I had an imprint of the joystick top button on the palm of my hand! I seem to remember building my own circuits. Am I right?
Superb graphics and sound but I always preferred Lotus' feeling of speed and movement. Pity that Lotus wasn't one of oponents' vehicle here, that would make it spicy :D
Lotus’s inclusion in this game would have meant another costly licence! ;) Out of the _Lotus_ games, I felt that only _Lotus Turbo Challenge II_ was worth the attention. The first one was slightly kept from being great by having a crash mechanism that was far too punitive (if you so much as *scraped* or door-handled another car you came to a complete utter halt!), and after having an improved variation in _Lotus Turbo Challenge II_ the makers of _Lotus III_ I recall decided to go back to that original, ridiculous crash mechanism (and the third game lost the four-player mode from its predecessor and the frame rate was noticeably jerkier in two-player split-screen).
I remember playing this split sceen 2 player with my girlfriend, we were both about 15 and when we completed and won team mode it was such a poor ending, great game though.
