When the XJR-14 showed up in IMSA in 92 it (piloted by Davy Jones) lowered the lap record at Miami by 4 seconds. The car took track records at: Mid Ohio, Lime Rock, Road Atlanta and the short course record at Watkins Glen, which still stands.
The only group C/GTP that could probably challenge or beat it in term of lap time back in the days were Toyota TS010 and Peugeot 905. Sad that the XJR14 1992 did not compete in Europe and at Le Mans.
these cars are the best racing machines ever. they look perfect and are more than fast enough..this one was lapping just 12 seconds slower than the F1 car this year !!
the windshield is so clear i thought this was somehow an xjr turned into a can am type ca for a second, then noticed the wiper isnt an antenna. then the glare .
Awesome machines. Saw C9s and C11s at Le Mans and Silverstone/Brands/Donington. The 1991 race the Sauber mechs held up 'Dino' signs at the finish as they had christened the C11 a dinosaur compared to the XJR-14/C-291/Peugeot 905 etc.
The NA 3.5L rule was the idiocy that killed the glorious sportscar racing that was Group C. Before that, you could use whatever engine. Fuel flow and fuel consumption was the equalizer and limiter. It was a great time, great diversity. Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes, Mazda... Then the idiotic 3.5 rule. They couldn't get a full field, so let the old cars compete, but with ballast. Then they allowed Mazda to compete in Le Mans without the ballast, which they promptly won. Then, afterwards, they banned rotary Wankel engines to correct the unfairness. And XJR14 won all other races, because it was the only serious NA 3.5L entry. The manufacturers who had lobbied for the 3.5L rule, Peugeot, Renault, Ferrari, Matra, never came. What a fiasco. Sports car racing never became the same again. And right now it's really crappy. Even Toyota could finally win. ...Alone.
what, are you assuming people who know nothing whatsoever about racing are watching this video? way to restate extremely common and well known information..... and what sources do you have that Ferrari, Matra and Renault "lobbied" for the 3.5L rule?? Bernie Ecclestone is largely responsible for that rule being implemented, no one had to "lobby" for it. And if you had even the slightest clue, you would know that Peugeot indeed was one of the frontrunners for the 3.5L era, in fact winning Le Mans twice with the 905. So your just outright incorrect and ignorant there. Lastly, Toyota wasn't "alone." They simply were the only car competing with a hybrid powertrain, thats it. It doesn't guarantee you anything, your absolutely retarded to try and take that away, because if they lost , they would be criticized even worse. When Audi won in 2000 for their first time, they literally faced no competition either. Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Toyota AND Nissan all left at the same time. Yet apparently for Audi it doesn't matter. Dumbasses like you aren't even real motorsports fans, you clearly dont watch any races and never have.
@@kyongslist Peugeot was the front runner in a dead class. The only Le Mans they had any legit competition their two cars lasted less then 100 laps combined. Toyota winning in a dead class is just deja vu.
@@redlinelmp5549 Fuq off asshole, Audi benefited for years (diesel bs rules) from being dead too, the rules didnt allow for Gas powered cars to be competitive and the ACO knew that yet did nothing.
@@austinc.1495They were required to enter the 3.5 car under the rules, but they intended it to race it for just an hour to show they were quicker than the Peugeot's, sadly Andy Wallace buzzed the engine in qualifying which meant they didn't have a proper run for pole. The lap it did for 2nd was in damp conditions compared to the Mercedes.
Great in car...lots of work...lots of great closing speed shots (155mph+)...lots of carrying speed shots...lots of "all mosts"...and then!...lots of fun to watch!... was that a win by the Jag or just a match race?
Brazilians are passionate about racing cars, but has no races in Brazil with these supercars, only runs with tourism cars. People in Brazil have come to know these supercars playing Gran Turismo and Forza. But see in real life, the real car is much more fun and exciting.
+James Edwards it isn't 300 more and also there is the weight difference so power to weight almost the same and also the Tractive effort is different jag is 6 speed box etc
+Alfie Briggs Racing is it 400hp more? I was at Silverstone in 1991 when the Jag won, obviously the "proper" group C cars were not able to run full power due to restricted fuel use. I was informed that the merc was running over 900bhp here?
These cars were built to comply with completely different regulations...! The Sauber weights 150 kg more than the Jaguar! That’s why its slower in the corners!
Raced Jaguar for 10 years...The Sauber was slow in the corners (ran out of rubber). Missed shift in corner one gave it the pass. Blocked at least 6 times. Oh and this was qual. by the way. This race was not 2015.
+turboslag +MarcoAntonio The cars were buit to fulfill very different regulations: The Sauber is from 1990 and had a 5.0 liter turbocharged V8 with approx. 730 bhp and tons of torque, making it fast on the straights! However the weight was 900 kg, where the Jaguar was build to the new 1991 regulations: weighing only 750 kg, but having a 3.5 L N/A engine with approx. 600-650 bhp, and much less torque! This should explain the difference in performance.
+Michael I. Hansen thank you for the explanation; vid very interesting though, quite surprised the jag managed to muscle past actually, and hold off the merc on the next straight;
+turboslag The Jag is in fact a Closed F1.That's also why it is better in the corners. Also the C11 driver isn't that good in terms of lines. The C11 is a great car, with a great aero.
Sauber did not have good cornering speed. Glad you passed them. He was blocking you so much , cutting into the corner when ever you had a chance to pass. Isn't that a cowardly move? dangerous also. Glad you passed Him.
WAIT A FEW YEARS TO SEE REABILITY AND WE TALK AGAIN!!!!!!! TURBOS HAVE EXPIRATION DATE!!!!!NOWDAYS MOST PARTS OF AN ENGINE ARE MADE FROM PLASTIC OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!!!!SUCH A PITY!!!!!!!
@@thethirdman225 I'm talking about lap times (at low downforce tracks such as Circuit de la Sarthe, Monza, Spa, Daytona...etc). Also this car on low downforce setting turn to dust any LMP2 in drag race.
Think no, C11 generate more downforce and was never prepared for LM like C9, but with adequate gear ratios and air flow upgrades (less downforce) it will be at least on level of C9.
@@joshuak4372 Said never like C9 because they run on different LM arrangement, no need for such max speed. Overall C11 is faster around circuit, but not sure for max sped.
Still the Mazda 787B was absolutely crap compared to the Sauber Mercedes C11 in performance. The only race the 787B won was the 1991 24 hours of Le Mans thanks to that both Sauber Mercedes C11s in front of it retired by mechanical issues or driver errors.
Actually they aren't t that fast. But the avon tyres this cars drive and the driver is way slower than f1 drivers is the main reason for speed difference. In Silverstone this car lapped 1:43 in the hands of marc gene....
Jag wins, despite clown of a driver over revving on both up and down shifts, and missing gears!! Put Andy Wallace, Teo Fabi or Martin Brundle in the Jag and see what it can really do. When you hold a gear too long, all your torque has long gone. And for all you fanboys making excuses for the Merc, don't embarrass yourselves! These cars raced each other in the real world and the Jag still won under race regulations, fair and square!
Dumb sauber driver, and he ruined the fastest lap from the jag....and it was just practise, seems that ego's are sometimes to big.....btw great vid again!
+Andrew Elias Very precious car nowadays. Won manufactures championship, won over half the races entered. Schumacher drove it. I would be careful as well if I had almost 1k hp and 900 kilos to deal with that I did not own.
+Robert Merritt You mean Schumacher was the second driver...Jochen Mass his leader was faster and so was Mauro Baldi the other supremely expert sportcars driver
Jag driver is better. Sauber is better on straight exel. Who the fuck is this Sauber driver ? You do not do what this S. driver does. I´ve been racing with cars and bikes; one does not do that Sauber driver does.
These cars were built to comply with completely different regulations...! The Sauber weights 150 kg more than the Jaguar! That’s why its slower in the corners!
Dick move on the Jag driver between 16:53 and 16:55. Cut off the heavier cars line of approach in a historic themed practice. Thats even a Big NO NO even in Championship races. No touch and no forcing your opponent out of his line its just rude.
+banjitson420 the c11 taped the Jag not the other way around. He gave the Merc plenty of space even though the Merc tried to close the door on him the turn earlier.
