A few years back I decided to replay this game for the nostalgia, and I beat it 100% in one 4-5 hour sitting. I was pretty shocked, both that I remembered where everything was and that the game is so short! Of course, when I was a kid, I could spend a whole afternoon swimming in the starting areas...
@Paul Johnson looking back on this after discovering jak speedrunners recently, I realise how stupid I sound. I was probably projecting, seeing as it took me a full week to 100 percent it loool
while they are probably off a little, and say a little because it took me 6 hrs i can say it can be 100% in one sitting i did it twice both on ps3 then again on ps4... buns is nuts saying its hard its really not hard to 100% it at all, i think 2 and 3 are harder to 100%
I know the opening narration to this game and its sequel by heart: "I have spent my life searching for the answers that my father... and my father's father failed to find: Who were the Precursors? Why did they create the vast monoliths that litter our planet? How did they harness Eco, the life energy of the world? What was their purpose, and why did they vanish? I have asked the plants, but they do not remember. The plants have asked the rocks, but the rocks do not recall. Even the ROCKS do NOT recall! ...Every bone in my body tells me that the answers rest on the shoulders... of a young boy: oblivious to his destiny, uninterested in the search for truth, and REJECTING OF MY GUIDANCE! And why would he want to listen to old Samos the Sage anyway?! I'm only the master of Green Eco! One of the wisest men on the planet! (weary sigh) So it seems the answer begins not with careful research or sensible thinking. NAAAAY! As with many of fate's mysteries, it begins... with but a small act... of *disobedience..."*
“Hey! Uhh, Jak? Old green stuff told us not to come here!” Jak: “Shhhh” Gol: “Continue your search or artifacts and eco! (inhale) If the locals possess precursor items, you know what to do.” Maia: “Deal harshly with anyone who strays from the village. We will attack it in due time!” Later… Daxter: “What are we doing here anyway Jak? This place gives me the CREEPS!” (Trips and falls) “Huh? Ooooo… stupid Precursor junk! Ick! What is that dark ooze? It sure don’t look friendly! (Blows off dust) the sage yaps on about the precursors that built this place all the time! Where did they go? Why did they build this crap? Now I like precursor orbs and power cells as much as the next guy, but if you ask me? They must’ve been real losers-WOW! How did you do that?!” Jak: “Uhhhh…?” Lurker appears Daxter: “Uh Jak? I think we’re IN TROUBLE!” Jak runs up and throws the canister “HA!” Daxter falling in the eco pool: “HEEEELP!” One moment later: “Man, that stung! I told you we shouldn’ta come and if you listened…! Whaaaaat?” AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA “It’s okay! I’m fine! I’m fine.” AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I mean, I wouldn't say this game is "hard" to 100%, it's only hard if you don't really know what you're doing, so after you fully beat it once, you can do it over and over again, with almost no hassle. It's the easiest out of the whole series, no doubt about that. The only difficult levels to get everything in, are the later levels, such as the Spider Cave... Oh God, the Spider Cave...
TheCreed1217 When I played the game, I wasn't too young, but I know what you mean, the spiders could be creepy, and the part with the crystals that light up the area around you creeped me out a bit as well.
***** It's probably my least favorite level in the game, right next to the Swamp level, the mini-game with the hillbilly and his pet drove me crazy, I was always bad at it!
I've not played this game properly since I was 4 when my dad bought the game, beat it and let me free roam afterwards seeing as he was done, he didn't 100% it however, so eleven years later I go to 100% it........took like, six hours altogether, only an afternoon. It was a nice afternoon
WiktoRozrabiaka yeah, the problem with them is getting all the precursor orbs, which I will never be able to do, I can't even get the bronze orb with the jet board in jak 2
JAYDOG1337A i did a cheat where i jumped on the precursor orbs, pressed start and restrated the timed trials over and over again. It allowed me to keep on getting orbs EASY.Got triple platinium
You could also collect the orbs just as the time trials were ending (rolling into it as the fail screen pops up) and you'd get the orb but also get to try the trials over again. It's the only true way to platinum Jak 2 and 3 as the driving sections are a pain in the ass and Jak 2's Hoverboard tricks section is abysmal.
I ended up using this trick after I legit earned the trophy by winning all the races and side challenges and stuff, only to be 3 orbs shy of the final ammount because of a glitch where a quick save will remember you finishing a mission, but not the orbs you gained from it. That was frustrating >.>
Just one small thing. The game isn't that hard to 100 percent. Do it once, and after that you can do it a million times with relative ease. It helps that the game as a whole is pretty short and easy, so it's not like it's more of a hassle than it's worth. Getting 100 percent is pretty much the only way to enjoy the game to its full extent, because unlike the sequels, these optional collectables are the focus of the game. Aside from that, I really had no problems with the video. It was pretty good.
The nostalgia, it feels like memories crying out from the distance reminding you to stop taking things so seriously. The moment you think was so amazing or so awful will be gone and you'll wish you could have just let things go so you can enjoy just a second more than you did.
your forgot to say that this is the first PS2 open world game to not have any loading screens. but still this game was my childhood and you did a great job talking about it
+Austin McIntyre (Cy) WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GET JAK X OR FINAL FRONTIER DEAR LORD STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Jak and Daxter, Jak 2, Jak 3, and Daxter are all great games. But ffs, DO NOT get Frontier or X.
oooomkps3 It's not that it's bad, it's that it isn't a Jak game. Imagine someone offers you your favorite doughnut, but when you take a bite into it there are bees instead of delicious filling.
I got this on ps4 a week ago and 100% plat it in a single sitting. Idk if I was just in a good mood or what but it was not at all hard and I enjoyed every second of it.
I sunk so many hours playing this game. Along with Maximo this was my first PS2 game that I got on my...11th or 12th birthday. This game was awesome. It's still awesome
i remember 100%ing this game for the first time. no walkthroughs, no help, no nothin (as far as i remember). i was so curious. "what could the secret ending be? what could be behind the door!? i cant wait!!!" and then when i got everything and unlocked the ending... i was left hanging. i. was. CRUSHED. to this day, i dont go back to it much.
I remember 100% completing this game but it was over the course of 10 years of playing it on and off. One of my favorite games as a child and even today.
Glad to see another of these! This game has a lot going on, so nicely done covering the important points. Fully agreed on not 100% this one, too. I tried back in the day, but there's only so many times I can attempt to heal plants or catch fish before I start foaming at the mouth.
That extra power cell is supposedly superfluous to the game. I don't even think you need it to officially 100% it, just if you are doing a true completionist run.
Wow. I just found this channel yesterdays and wanted to start from more or less beginning and like.... I didnt realize how good you still are back when you started since most youtubers(myself included) succcck. So yassssss werk and stay awesome. Anyway. BINGE TIMEEEEE
I've played this game so many times, I practically have muscle memory for every platform, boss, and mini game, and I've 100% it the last 5 or 6 times I've played it. But still, every couple of years like clockwork, I get the itch to play this and the rest of the series all over again.
This is my favorite game of all time! I played through it 100% (including all 1001 precursor orbs) twice! I LOVE IT. maybe I should try speedrunning it next...
Fun Fact; In the Rock Village section, you don't need to give the warrior guy precursor orbs to make him fix the bridges for you; if you roll-jump across the gaps, you should have just enough time to swim to the next wooden island thing before the lurker shark noms on yours sweet, no-talky, elf-man flesh.
I remember when I first got the PlayStation 2, this is the first game I got but no memory card because reasons. Worth it because me and my brother played through the entire game one weekend and beat it within 8 plus hours. Once I got the memory card, I decided to collect all of the items and collectibles and 100% completed for the back door ending of Jak 2. One of the Best time of my youth
To this day I am just as scared of the lurker sharks as I was when I was seven. I am now twenty three. I think it has something to do with the heartbeat
When I was 12 I didn't have a memory card for my ps2 and I had only one game for the system, Jak and daxter. I had to beat it in a single day if i ever wanted to complete it. It took me some time but in the end I did it. Then I realised there must be a secret ending if i could do a 100 % run. A couple of weeks later I managed to sort of speedrun through the whole game in a single day and collect everything. The reward was something like a 10 second cutscene... but i didn't think it was underwhelming. I just couldn't believe I had actually managed to achieve it and that was enough of a reward. Just checked that the world record for a 100% speedrun is 1:37:52.. oh well...
I've just been Introduced to your channel today, but DANG!! you have earned my subscribe and like thing! Also, I kinda want to draw your bean logo and I don't even draw well!!
I 100%'ed this game when the trilogy pack came out for PS3. Won't really say it was hard, it's pretty straight forward and easy to understand what to do. Some of the collectables takes more effort to get to, but compared to 100%ing Jak II/III, this one is walk in the park xD
I always forget that Daxter was a person. I never really pay attention that much to the plot any more in Jak and Daxter and when I play Jak II and 3 I just don't think about it. That said, this game is great even if the plot is meh. But Mr Dark Eco dude is voiced by Dee Snider who is the singer for Twisted Sister. This game is the easiest game to 100% complete, you be talking smack Buns!
coming from someone who completed this as a kid, i highly suggest playing it... And either way, whether u 100% it or dont, you're gonna have a good time.
On My first play through when I was a kid, I did not know about the long roll jump until about 2/3 through. I progressed by glitch siding on the sides.
I personally classify the final plot device in this game as White Eco instead of Light Eco. Artificially created, more offensive based than natural Light Eco we see later on and a slightly different colour.
I really loved the first Jak and Daxter; totes missed the colour and atmosphere in the follow-up. Also found it one of the more rewarding games to 100% (maybe one of the like two I've ever bothered to do so for), as it us super skill-/problem-solving- based (plus the extra ending was cool).
No joke, back when I was only a wee baby of 8 years old, I had a playstation 2, but we did not have a memory card for the thing. So for the longest time, playing this game was basically doing the village and maybe if I was lucky, I'd get to bony island or MAAAAAYBE the blue sage's village, but I rarely made it past that far before it was time to turn the game off, and I had to start over. Needless to say, with a very long unskippable cut scene at the start of the game, 8 year old baby me had that entire thing memorized and I could quote that shit. Even as an adult, occasionally the words will just tokyo drift into my brain like "I have asked the trees, but the trees do not remember. The trees have asked the rocks, but even the rocks do not recall." I haven't played this game in over a decade, why do you haunt me? Still, great game. Would recommend. It is my entire childhood. 14/10 for this good boi.
The reason it changes Daxter but kills Jak is because for dax it just touches his body and changes his form, Jak can channel eco upon contact... so it strait floods his entire being and kills him. The dark eco experiments he is forced into add small amounts to him at a time so he can channel it by collecting small amounts at a time later. Thus the reason he has to collect a certain amount and channel it for a brief time. - Buns research division.
