I visited Indonesia for work for a period of 2 years. Some of the best welcoming respectful people with amazing food living on pristine beaches and islands. Absolutely amazing place.
I had the most amazing nasi goreng when my flight back home was delayed for hours. I’m so glad the flight was delayed, that was the most amazing thing I’ve ever had and I can never forget the taste and the super helpful shop owner. Love from China to Indonesia, Indonesian food and most importantly, Indonesian people. ❤️
I lived in Indonesia for 11 years and I used to buy "martabak manis" every Friday night. But unfortunately I don't live there anymore and I still dream about martabak at night.
@@difarahman2898 Yes it is indeed an easy sweet pancake recipe. However, no matter what you do, or what recipe you're following, the taste of street food you grew up with will always be different. Whatever favorite stall you've always visited had their own measurement/style that is just that hard to replicate. It'll never be the same taste you grew up with, you can of course, eventually develop your own.
I lived in Jakarta for 8 years, spent most of that time eating street food because it's just the best. May not look like much but it's just so goddamn good. And I think in those 8 years I still haven't tried everything.
My Grandpa had a stationary shop in Sabang market, and every night we will have dinner there, I usual eat Satay and ordered Martabak for dessert, my Grandpa passed away a few years back and the shop was sold, seeing the familiar foods in this video gives me nostalgia, thank you
I visited Palembang, Indonesia for Asian games, you know what ? Their foods are addicting first I ate Nasi Goreng Arema, then I tried satay, then martabak, then rendang, then Nasi Padang and much more and the result is HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
I am biggest street food lover from India..I would like to taste all kind of street foods from different countries. Your videos really makes me more hungry at every time. Nice Indonesian street food in Sabang market! 😋😋😋😋😋
I used to live in Jakarta for 2 years, Jakarta is a underrated city in Asia. I very love the food, the people is very very friendly and happy to help you, 2 years is a less time to get to know Jakarta. I hope to get a wife in Indonesia and live in Jakarta again
I've seen this episode for more than couple times. But this time, someone caught my attention, Bianca. Sweet little girl, struggled for live. May God keeps her and bless her. Thanks for the good videos.
Does anyone else immensely appreciate that Sonny is not only a polite chewer, but covers his mouth to speak when there is food in that professional pie hole? Sonny, the most absolute respect for you and your wonderful channel! Don't ever stop chewing with your mouth closed!🌹
I dont know why but Indonesian food, Malaysian food and Thai food look so appeal to me. I've tried beef rendang canned (not fresh and authentic) from AEON Malaysia, i bought it as a souvenir for my family in VN without knowing what it is :))). But it tastes insanely good. I'll definitely put Jakarta and Bali into my bucket list next year!
@Nigel Mulliniz Sorry but Indian food has an acquired taste and special spices that I can't stand with, so honestly I do not like it. I did try some Chinese noodles in Melaka and KL and it's quite different to what I had back home in China Town in Vietnam. But next time I'll definitely try more.
Jakarta is one of my favourite food destinations in south east Asia. For a year Jakarta was my second home and I got plenty of chances to explore the city. Incidentally I spent a good part of it in Sabang and the food market was a regular haunt. There’s something for everyone. From uber affordable delicious street snacks to Michelin star gourmets. Jakarta also offers plenty of options to explore the cuisines from the other prominent islands and they all have their distinctive flavours. Martabak is by the way unforgettable decadence. Love the city. Love the people.
That means you don't understand about economics. To put it simply, most Americans are wealthier than most Indonesians because USA is a wealthy country. It's mostly not about the currency. An example of this is Timor Leste. Timor Leste uses US Dollars as their currency and most people there only make a few hundred dollars a month, which is worth a few million Rupiah, compared to most Americans who make thousand dollars a month.
@Sundaystroller I see, so you guys were talking about the nominal stuff :3 Dan aku orang Indonesia XD aku nulis pake bahasa inggris soalnya komennya pake bahasa inggris UwU
The food looks delicious and not too 'weird' for me 😅 This co host is lovely, comes across as a very down to earth person. More hosts like this please!
Kenapa kalo orang luar yg bikin videonya jadinya bangus yak? Kayak bukan d indonesia aja, orang klo ga perhatikan bahasanya mgkin ngira ini d thailand 🤣🤣🤣
I'm a proud Malaysian married to an Indonesian and currently working and living in Bandung. Culinaries in Indonesia are crazy rich and delicious. But i still miss Msia's nasi lemak and teh tarik everyday 😁❤️
Indonesia has got some real nice food man....oh and the way they cook their chickens! oh my...so tender and so flavorful!!! I miss a lot of food in Indonesia...hope to be back next year!! makanan yang sangat enak!!
I love the quality of your videos and your genuine excitement every time you bite into a new dish. Jakarta has been added to my round the world foodie adventure. Thank you!

Foreigner: such an oily food Indonesian: well dude that is streetfood, the food for pleasure. Its just like pizza, burger, and hotdog for you, and yeah we have our version of full breakfast, you have toast, sausage and egg every morning, and I have rice with peanut sauce salad every morning
There are so many misinformation that Rachel gave.. I think i have to clarify some : 1. Nasi Goreng Gila is not called crazy because of the spiciness.. But it's because of the big portion, and many things put in it. They add noodles, and lot of vegetables with the rice. 2. And not all Jakartans like spicy food. Jakartans are consist of various ethnic across the country. They don't have the same likings. 3. It's not Grouse. Grouse don't live here. It's a Fried Pigeon, or sometimes Teal. 4. Gudeg Egg is not brown because of the brown sugar..but because of the tea leaves.. 5. Gudeg is totally not fermented!
For the people who says indonesian foods are junkfood, oily, unhealthy, etc, i let you know that my parents been eating those junkfoods and both still healthy and happy in their 70s.
@I tell THE TRUTH!! You must have not been to America. America is like land of junk food. All they do is put cheese and bacon on everything. It's not a seasoning to them, it's a lifestyle. Indonesia is like the America of Asia, their food is full of sugar and butter. Most of their food are variations of other SEA food but looks like it was prepared by a kid. Just add more condensed milk, sugar and butter.

It's so crazy to me that i know most dishes. Nasi goreng with ketjap manis, kroepoek and saté sauce is a meal that basicly everybody can make and loves. Im Dutch... 😂👍
Sooo glad that this guy can enjoy some of Indonesian popular street food... not every foreigner wants to do it as they're concerned about hygiene.. two thumbs up !! 👌
if you go to manado north sulawesi, you'll get a whole different culinary experience compared to Jakarta. Same applies for Yogyakarta central java, Makassar south sulawesi, and Bali. The thing with indonesian food is, no other place can even compete with the original location. Just like the gudeg you ate at Jakarta can't compare to the original one at Yogyakarta (like Gudeg Yu Djum). You should go those original locations! Those places have mindblowingly tasty foods
you right only if someone has long time experiences with Indonesian food. But for the new ones, Jakarta has been doing many modification those culinary to have acceptable tastes. No many people out there can eat our salty, sweetie or spicy foods, so we need jakarta with many ethnic to modify to make the foods more acceptable.

As a Balinese I admit Bali is very lacking on street food culture especialy when compared to Surabaya and Jogja. Bali is still pretty much vilage-centered so many people choose to eat in their house. However, Bali have awesome and tasty ceremonial food. Which took alot of resources to make. 😁
Absolutely no segar, u should try Anggur Merah Tjap Orang Toea! You buy in warung remang-remang You minta plastik hitam You minta sedotan You sedot pelan-pelan Pas lagi rain Hmmmmmm pusing.
I love how poetic you described the journey of making sweet martabak. I think that was so cool. And you were lucky to have Rachel as your guide. She's quite knowledgeable about the food you ate. Well, at least i know for sure, much better than me.
Orang indonesia yg tinggal di luar negeri tapi ngk neko neko dandananya sederhanatapi tetap cantik...menjujung tinggi budaya ketimuran.........salut ama mbak nya....🙏🙏🙏
"That is SO good!" "But I feel terrible as I eat it" HAHAH Sums pretty much my feelings everytime I eat martabak. If you wanna eat unhealthy food, go all the way
You didn't mention what type of egg the Martabak was made from. I know in Yogyakarta, it's usually made with duck eggs, which I have to say blow away chicken eggs in flavor. I miss good Martabak sooo much. Indonesia is a paradise for foodies. I miss living in Yogyakarta and Salatiga (Central Java) which for me was my 2nd home. I've been to over 15 different countries around the world and I have to say that Indonesia is my favorite country that I've been to or lived in. Wonderful people, low-crime, amazing cultures and amazing foods. Indonesians in general know how to really enjoy and savor every moment of life.
Maybe if you want to visiting Yogyakarta again, ask your friend or someone there to join you. I wonder, your friend first time taste a god damn Martabak. (Your friend that didnt know about Indonesia). And ask them, Martabak is a heavy dessert.
Did you said JALAN SABANG? OMG, I used to go there for dinner and lunch because I worked just around the corner. I miss you Indonesia and the street foods 😭😭😭😭
Well actually not really in some cases like malaysia have gdp per capita around 3x times more than indonesia but the food in KL is almost the same in price compared to jakarta
@@MuhammadAli-bh5pe whats the problem with overproud? Dont you love your country? I bet you are the kind of people who still ask for plastic bag in indomaret even though only buy a milk
A small correction... we don’t commonly call the establishment “kedai”. We call it “Kaki Lima” or K-5 which literally means 5 Legs... which represents vendors (3 wheels/legs) on side of the streets that gets pushed around by a person (2 legs) ... “ Kedai” would be use on a fixed building establishment. 👌🏼
Greetings from Indonesia🇮🇩, Southeast Asian. I am very happy because Indonesian Food is increasingly widely known by the International Public and International Tourists. And also abroad including in the United States and Japan, there are also Indonesian restaurants. And three of them the BEST Indonesian Food is : 1.Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) 2.Beef Rendang (BEST Food in the World by CNN) 3.Mie Goreng (Fried Noodles) Another Delicious Indonesian Food : 1.Ikan Bakar (Grilled fish) 2.Lumpia (Spring Rolls) 3.Sate Ayam (Chicken Satay) 4.Bakso (Meatball) 5.Soto Ayam (Chicken Soto) 6.Martabak (Dessert Pancake Street Food. For the Topping, anything including complete, the more the more sweet) 7.And many more In Indonesia, there are so many Street Food. For Restaurants, which is also quite popular is Padang Restaurant. This restaurant comes from the province of West Sumatra, the capital of Padang. But you can look for it anywhere, so you don't have to go to West Sumatra, you can look for it in every Province including on the island of Java, but there is something unique here... that is, the way it is presented brings many dishes of various foods. ❤😁👍👍👍

0:24 the girl mentioned in jakarta they love spicy and in Java they prefer sweet. I think it's slightly untrue. We've got to be more specific, which part of java. I myself live in East Java and the majority of people lives in East Java love spicy food as well, esp. in my hometown Surabaya, at the further east of java we love spicy and savoury with slightly salty flavour
I really love what you do, it's like traveling the world. Poverty is an issue in Indonesia that needs to be solved immediately. I hope that beautiful little girl will have a bright future and good education, amin.
FYI, there are 2 types of martabak, martabak telor which is the savoury one with eggs, and martabak manis, which is the sweet one, the one with load of margarine and cheese and choco sprinkles, in other region martabak manis is called terang bulan.
