@@icantgetup When Larry and Magic came into the NBA The League was Bankrupt. It was about over for the next level after College. Bird joined a losing Celtic Team with some greats but at the end of their careers. Same team minus a bench player and Larry Bird. He took that team to the playoffs his first year. The Indiana St and Michigan State tin this day was the most watched College Finals Game in History. Bird and Magic's Rivalry brought millions of New Fans to the NBA. Their games became the most watched games in NBA History. So when Jordan came into the League those Fans were already there to take in Jordan and yes I am sure Jordan after his first three or four years brought fans into the League but just a drop in the Bucket compared to the fans Bird and Magic brought to a League that they did in just one year. There is absolutely no comparison to the Greatness Magic and Bird brought to the NBA. You see most fans of the NBA today which is getting smaller and smaller every year. Yes Curry is great but again the League is losing millions of fans just the past two years. People are sick of the Woke BS. And people don't respect the players as a whole. So today's League is a drag and rule changes didn't help. The League was the greatest and most loved in the 80's.

Larry Bird is one of the greatest players in the game not only because of how good he was as a player but the fact he was able to pass it down after he walked off the court.

I would argue that of former great players, he's arguably the most successful coach/GM outside of Jerry West. Ozzie Newsome is the only one that might rank ahead of him. that's what jordan said in an interview, he would never call larry bird or magic to play with him.. and those two would never call either one of them either to join up team and play together.. that is the big difference between the stars back then and the stars today.. today it is more about superteams and back then, the trio (jordan bird and magic) were fierce adversaries and no way were they joining up together (except dream team 1) in an nba season... was 90's bulls a superteam?? no, only 2 all stars were in there (jordan and pip).. they had 3 players defensive 1st team tho w/ rodman (defense was key in bulls dynasty) superteam is team with 3 or more all star players ( miami lebron/wade/bosh... boston with 4 all stars.. cavs with 3 all stars.. GSW with 3 all stars, 4 with KD.. those are superteams)

Larry Bird on the Shaq-Kobe Lakers, who beat his Pacers team for the Title- "They're just lucky I'm not out there"
@sportschool3537
@sportschool3537 4 года назад
True... very very true... if he was in his prime and playing he would go berserk on that young Kobe and would probably score endlessly right in the face of everyone... not to mention that he would have the nerve to even trash talk Shaq until the dinosaur started losing his mind and playing way worse... Larry was the definition of a winner and champion... killer on the court, had more guts than any other man we've ever seen, technically close to perfect (very underrated there... we hear people saying he was slow and mediocre compared to players like Jordan, Lebron, Kobe etc... BULLSHIT... his skill was through the roof)... Also Larry could possibly be the best passer of all time cause assists are not the measurement for passing ability... Larry's passes were legendary... their difficulty and skill level requirement was the highest I've ever seen and it's not even close... he just didn't play for numbers... if he did he could average 40 12 and 13 every night, playing selfish and losing more... what? no?

Jalen was right. He was on his way to NBA purgatory until he got to the Pacers. Now he is in the Pacers Ring of Honor and does not have to ever buy a drink in this state in his life. After Reggie and Victor, Jalen is probably the third most beloved Pacer in the last 30 years. Possibly a tie between him and Lance Stevenson. He was a REAL crowd favorite when he was here. The most ironic part is the same Pacers fans in Indiana probably hated Jalen when he was at Michigan just a few years earlier. But yeah, Larry Bird saved his basketball career.

Anyone who hasn't watched the Larry Bird: a basketball Legend video (on toutube) narrated by Daniel Stern it is a must watch!!! For those if you who think he couldn't play defense that is a big myth. He led the NBA in defensive WS as a rookie (only other player I am aware of is Duncan...not Russell, Wilt, Kareem, MJ, Lebron, or Hakeem could even do that) and 4x in his career. Also made all-defensive team 3x! He is #41 on the all-time steal per game list and 203 in blocks. To put that in perspective Lebron is #62 and #231! His offense is what separated him from almost every NBA player that ever lived. Besides being the 2nd best passer in NBA history (Magic was just a tad better), he could do everything at the highest level. He is 1 of 3 players in NBA history to have 28+ppg while shooting 50/40/90. In fact he did it 2x and was .882 away form doing it a 3rd time. KD & Steph are the only other players to make that club! They each only did it 1x. Even Dirk's best scoring season while being 50/40/90 he averaged under 25ppg. Larry also was .496 FG, .423 TPT, and .896 FT with 25.8ppg in 1986! If you round up its 50/40/90 at 26ppg! This is a reason I think Devin Booker is so underrated as an offensive player. Right now he is 49% FG, 38% TPT, and .914 FT while averaging 26.7 ppg. I honestly believe he could easily join the same club as Larry, Steph, & KD. P.S. Middleton is not an elite all-star by any stretch but he can become the 5th player in NBA history to be in the 50/40/90 20+ppg club this year. That is no small task.

I never forget traveling back to San Francisco , California from Upstate New York and having a layover in Detroit...during my layover I'm at my Gate waiting to board the plane and who do I see I see Jalen Rose with two other dudes with him waiting to board on the same plane that I was taking to California, they didn't even have first class seats, they went right by me where I was sitting towards the back of the plane...this was in 1994, the year that Jalen was drafted into the NBA...his career was about to begin...I kept scratching my head wondering why Jalen Rose was going to San Francisco, then it dawned on me maybe he's going to go and visit Chris Webber who at that time was playing for the Golden State Warrior's...sure enough we all went to the baggage claim area and went outside waiting to be picked up, I kept my distance this whole time not bothering Jalen one time...my two good friend's pulled up to pick me up and I told them look there's Jalen Rose...one of the Famous Fab Five players from Michigan they were as happy as I was to see him....within minutes we see a hunter green Mercedes Benz playing loud bumping music coming our way pulling up stops where Jalen and his two friends were waiting and who gets out of the Benz....Chris Webber, yup C.W, I was right. . ..Webber pop's his trunk still playing loud music they all hug each other....me and my homies wave and say what's up to ALL of them and then they drive off....I said to my two homies...." Those Guy's ARE Going To Webber's House in the Bay Area to PARTY for Day's....LMAO !!!!

Magic and Larry could relate to each other because they both came from economically deprived backgrounds (one urban, the other rural) and rose to be two of the best to ever play. They came from having NOTHING. In their mind's eye, you have $100 to get a tattoo? You must be some rich kid, to throw money around like that. If either of them had some money when they were young, they weren't spending it on having someone write on them [I'm not knocking tattoos. I like them.] They'd probably spend it on food or clothing. It's not about being "pristine."
