Having a go today my late husband who was Jamaican used to bake bun every Easter 🐣 was always lovely, I was given your book Jamaican cakes as a gift the bun recipe is in there thanks have a wonderful Easter wkend everyone when it arrives 🌞
Hi Miguel. I was born in Jamaica and now live in Canada. Lived here for most of my life. I enjoy bun only at Easter. Bun in Canada has become very expensive and also the Tastee Processed Cheese. During the stay at home order due to COVID-19 I have been trying to make a number of my favorite dishes from scratch. I tried your recipe late Saturday night (Mother's Day Weekend 2020). Based on your precise instructions I was able to make bun for the first time and it came out very good. I didn't put all the colorful fruits, because I don't like them and I used a non-alcoholic red wine. Thank you for also explaining all the different alternatives. I can't wait to make this again. For anyone who wants to try, go ahead. There are a lot of ingredients, however, it is manageable. Thanks again Miguel, great recipe and it taste great. Oh, I have made other dishes based off of your recipes. Finally, I love that I can make such a wonderful Jamaican traditional treat. Thanks again.
Thank you for posting. Wanted to see who made this recently. I will be trying. Also in Canada and during the pandemic been making a lot of Jamaican recipes. A lot of them from him and another Jamaican channel - How to Cook. Both great cooks. I just made hard dough bread from both of their channels last night. Both came out great
@@cocodiamells Hi Debbie. That's excellent. I didn't have the large bun container and used the small loaf pans, I was able to make three buns (might have stretched the recipe a bit) I gave two away and one of my sister's texted members of the family and said, Stacey's bun is wicked. It's only one bun and she can't share." LOL. So, I got a thumbs up. Also, the glaze is what makes the bun looks like a "bun". LOL. Keep well and enjoy.
I love the way you took your time at least you remembered those of us who are not Jamaicans but have Jamaican heritage and trying to connect with our heritage especially those who are brought up in homes that are of different race from our birth race and those brought up in foster and Government homes. Thanks again for thinking outside the box.
You really know about baking, with the product pulling away from the tin and the scent, they are signs of completion, I learnt that many, many years ago, authentic way😃😄
Thank my brother 🙏 may the Creator bless you always. I left jamaica 🇯🇲 Trelawny Albert Town as a child and longing for real country healthy food that my grandmother made. It is very hard to find just pure fatty Jamaican food going on in foreign. Where can we get fi wie mix fruit from. Bin to jamaica 🇯🇲 many times and never see it in the market or super market. I can't even find green banana flour or plantain flour or cassava flour.
I like how you explain and do your measurements, down to the very tin!! Some people pour ingredients from containers straight into mixture and say that is the measurement, heap up the measuring items and say that is the measurement!! Cannot be. Good job
Dear sir the recipe for this old fashion bun does not list eggs, molasses, or bread crumbs unless I am blind I do not see it. I wonder if it's missing in the ook as well.
Yes doing things the traditional way our ancestors remind us how long they took perfecting the recipe without us adding too much and changing the health benefits to pure FAT.
Hi Mr. Baker I am watching your video I don’t think you need eggs in your bun if you are using yeast or baking powder or soda so please correct your video but everything else looks good thanks
Yes counter flour can be substituted for all purpose flour. Even self raising flour just omit baking powder and baking soda it is already added to self raising flour
@@jackie9068 i never said we grow it. All spice is ground pimento... Mixed spice is different, it's spices mixed. That's what it is here. British people get it mixed up.
yes get to the point. I fast forward a lot of videos, don't have 20+ minute for something that can be said in 8mins. Thanks and sorry don't mean to be rude
