His music has A LOT of soul ironically enough. Some day I feel like he will fall in love with the saxophone and then he will include it in one of his songs. Mark my words. I'm a psychic 😏 🔮 ✨️
Yeah, I do agree most of sax playing in mainstream music is corny and repetitive, but sax playing in jazz can be godlike at moments. Even if you don't like Charlie Parker and his bebop craziness, you still have Paul Desmond and his cool, laid back approach or Michael Brecker with his aggressive badass attack.
Funny thing for me: I’m not a fan of lil yachty or his music, not that I hate it, it’s just not my thing, but I’m a massive James Blake fan, specially regarding specific songs or albums. Now, that being said, regarding the take on the saxophone, I completely disagree with James and very much agree with lil yachty 😂
@@zzzzillah1185 I never actively searched or listened to him unless he’s featuring with someone i actively listen to. Unless I grew up with them, or they were praised by the ones I grew up with, my hip hop and rap culture is quite limited. I listen to a lot of different stuff, depends on the energy I need or I’m feeling and the mood (mood disorder and adhd). I like Kendrick, Cole, earlier drake, earlier Kanye, some JayZ, Pac, Eminem, fifty… mostly before 2010, some after. I was born in 1990 and my teenage years were spent researching a lot of music… a looooot. So between 12-18 (2002-2008) was when I discovered i enjoyed a lot of different. Hip hop is like 10% of what I listen to regularly. Sorry for the long response. I’ll put it on the list 👊
@@Rjmc19 All good dude, I dont listen to rap nearly as much as I used to, but it doesn't matter cause lil yachty's let's start here album isnt really rap, it's like psychedelic rock or something to that effect. It is genuinely really good, the intro track imo is worth the listen alone. Black seminole, officially lost vision, and reach the sunshine are the best imo off the project and the most creative tracks. Now lil yachty b4 this album isnt necessarily good, but that album came out and it was so different than anything he had ever done at that point, and it was probably my favorite album of the year.
i absolutely have been saying something similar for a while lol. it’s a cool instrument but idk maybe because saxophone is always so..prominent when it’s in something. guitar/ piano can be kinda ambiguous but sax is always annoyingly identifiable AND literally everybody says the whole “it’s the sexiest instrument” thing lol so it’s not crazy for people to have an opposing opinion
It takes up the same range as the soloing instrument, that's why. But bari and tenor are much more suited for ensamble work. Listen to some ellington or mingus tracks to see bari used well in a group.
James Blake got me to listen to Lil Yachty, who is so cool, though, I'm glad I get to listen to his stuff now. I totally agree with his takes on saxophone and his past two albums are blowing me away.
Masego knows how to use that instrument amazingly well but judging from James' music, a sax will oppose with his sound coz it's more of a dark yet melodic sound
As a jazz musician he probably just heard too many applications of the saxophone in songs and doesn't want his contribution to the boat album to be predictable
I love sax but people love it because it often goes over the top of everything else. Regular folks that are not musicians focus on lead melody and are amazed with anything that is in the center of attention. You can notice that when players start playing lounder and higher notes (everybody are amazed haha). How come people don't find bass or trumpet as their favoruite instrument? Well I know why...
yeah dude, lets delete the whole jazz genre and prevent any kind of modern music to exist, jazz is the root of almost all music since the beginning of the 1900s
Get (most) modern sax rep outta here. The rest can stay. Sorry, but when 90% of the piece is extended techniques, it’s only cool to other saxophonists.
