Yes his father was dying at the time--I think he needed either a kidney or liver transplant right away...fortunately soon after he got lucky and found a transplant.
At the time this video was filmed, his Dad didn't have long to live. It was because of this video that the donor (a distant cousin) found out about the diagnosis and gave his dad the kidney he needed.

Hello brother, It never fails...everytime I hear this song I loose it. I can totally relate to what you said about your mother. I lost mine to COPD. We were very close, she was my best friend. I think what gets me the most is the way Blunt's vocal delivery is so emotional, as well as the fact that the lyrics are brutal. Anyway, it's a beautiful song with a powerful message. Also, 5 months prior to my mom's passing, my wife of 43 years went to her heavenly home. 2018 was a rough year with the loss of 2 cousins (sisters) and an aunt (my mom's younger sister) as well.
